  • I dedicate this work to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster. When 1989 almost 100 football supporters died in a crowd crush. / They had just gone to watch a game of football. My father and I stood on the same terrace several times.

  • Taking the time learning software is – well gotta think of it like nny other kind of learning i guess… / though… there was the block I had last year… / after an horrific eviscerating humitliation diguising itself as a relationship, I couldn’t paint for three months – see the piece Ms Poli and also for the STORY about the… girl…. Kissing Miss Poli I ended up hacking a role playing game on my PC – to the point where I made an utterly convincing version of myself, and my best friend. And my cat. I was not using a modelling editor I was working in in pure code and then just running the game again and again to see what the characters looked like. / 60, 80 hours a week. more. i don’t even know what languages I was using. No idea. / Very weird. I am at heart, somewhere disguised by the er biceps and er so forth – truly, deeply, passionately… a NERD… oh yes, a dungeons and dragon playing, computer building hacker. I just fit all the artist sterotypes and, apart from the former, none of the nerdy freak ones. / When I was trying to find the texture files to get the right kind of coat to match the cat that I so adored. I FINALLY thought – dude. this may wel be insane. SO – I took the time to learn some more photoshop stuff and used my digital 12 meg cam PROPERLY, allowing me to upload a full 12 meg image of this piece. I suppose I should delete the other one but I can’t… the comment mean too much to me. Ex-girlfriend, my hand is the link. This is the heart of that text: / I did it on the train to university when I was in second year, around 1998, I think. I love this piece. It is definitively unusual. I invented the face though it looks like one of my ex girlfriends, Sarah Mennie. I should track her down, though I believe she lives in Adelaide now. She was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Anywhere. She was an alcoholic, and more mad than I was. There was something utterly gentle about her, and she loved me so hard, so deeply. I remember when I was coming down from a manic drinking bender and I was having an intense anxiety attack (two of the LEAST descriptive words in the english language – when you are having an anxiety attack you are convinced you are dying. It is one of the most horrible things that I have ever gone through, an unstoppable avalnache of fear – anyway:) - And she held me so tightly and started crying too. I know she loved me, perhaps more than anyone else in my life. I didn’t catch her beauty in this piece, but there is something of her in the eyes, some doomed gentleness. Ah well. I cheated on her. I was manic and 21. I was a bastard. I am sorry, yes. Sorrowful, yes. Oh, Sarah, I still think of you. I hope you are ok, I hope that you have lived. That you have stopped drinking. That you are happy. Whew. Now to see if my lame poverty indueced sucky dasl will hold out for the upload. Thank you, thank you all… your comments help me and give me hope in hell (I am presently in the one day a week of respite I manage to carve from the week. Has been a fortnight of torture this time though. Yeh. I have this day. I do. Paul

  • This is the memorial on Texas A&M’s campus for the bonfire tragedy. Since 1909 Texas A&M University students have worked together each year to build a massive bonfire. The stack of several thousand logs collapsed early morning on November 18, 1999, killing twelve students and injuring at least 27 others. Bonfire was cancelled that year. It was to have been ignited on Thanksgiving evening as a prelude to Texas A&M’s November 26 morning football game with The University of Texas.

  • like this, only with the right words I just watched a movie, that I do not know the name of. It was made in 1953, and, wow.. it would so knock the eyes right out of ever so many prudes who worry about the R rated movies now. Oh no, there wasn’t any cussing; and there wasn’t too much blood. Nor was there any nudity, not so much as untoward cleavage. The story started with a woman on a subway, very intimate close quarters suggested for all. A man approaches her, and they give each other looks that would inspire many finer minded prostitutes to blush, upon receiving Far too erotic, were those glances, for a mere X-rated film, I can tell you. Then there was some stuff about stealing things, the police tryilng to find them, etc. All wrapped around various encounters between the two persons who met on the subway. During this movie, sexual assault occurred, as well as physical assault, murder, espionage, and police brutality. Strangely, your children would legally be allowed to walk right into a theatre and view this movie. Yet, if a nude guru made a film of himself reading Kahil Gabrahn (sp?) they wouldn’t be allowed in to see it. It’s so much more important, you see, that a child never see nudity, even when it’s completely non-sexual, that they’d rather a child see that it’s okay to beat your ex-girlfriend up for losing your microfilm by which you hoped to make money whilst committing treason against your country. Mmm. . the values taught! Anyway, the woman was really beaten rather badly. It was shocking. Not just because of it being in the movie, mind, but, because the actress was banging around, getting her head knocked into things, and I’m not quite sure how she survived the role! Which brings us to women, bleeding, and, of course, this digital painting, which is actually a variation on other digital paintings which came to Red Bubble long before it. Well, long as in over a week ago, definitely! lol I wasn’t planning to make a painting depicting an abused woman. But, as it started shaping up, I saw what looked like a hint of misery, a spot of blood, and in pops the song to my mind, where it slithered about and demanded I pay attention to it.

  • On 10 September 2001 I was completing a film shoot in Manhattan. The shoot was all night and when I got back to my room at The Hudson I couldn’t sleep. I showered and went for a bagel at about 0600. I spent the morning walking around Times Square until i had to catch my flight back to Atlanta. I had my Contax G1 in the plane and as we flew over Manhattan I shot the World Trade Center from my window. One year later the same client flew me back to NYC for a shoot and I captured this view of Ground Zero. In March of 2002 I re-enlisted in the Army Reserves after 30 years out of uniform. I am still in service currently. Proceeds from any sales of this image will be donated to a scholarship fund for children who have lost parents in US military combat action in Iraq, Afghanistan or elsewhere. “Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf.” / George Orwell

  • ©Seth F. Weaver,SR. 06/14/09. Inspied by Sting’s “The Pirate’s Bride” song. She waited patiently by the sea staring into tide pools wishing her love to return from many years at sea. The more she gazed the less she saw till she could only see a weathered bitter old hag in the reflections. She often dreamed her love was home but the dreams only teased her spirit and soul. Then one day she had a vision. A bright light with a loving caring feeling appeared behind her and in her heart she could feel that she’d be seeing her love again sooner than she ever thought. A Compullage™ creation.

  • Twenty years ago, a tragic accident sent 35 people plunging to their deaths. Lerro, 37, an experienced harbor pilot from Tampa, shouldered the responsibility of guiding the Summit Venture from the Gulf of Mexico 58.4 miles up Tampa Bay to the Port of Tampa. It is one of the longest shipping channels in the world, and one of the most treacherous, given the shallow waters of the bay and the ambush style of Florida weather. With the ship’s belly empty of cargo and her tanks nearly empty of ballast, she rode high in the water. She ran through intermittent fog and rain along the first 19 miles of her journey. Then southwest winds exploded to tropical-storm force. Rain sheeted at rates exceeding 7 inches an hour. Visibility plunged to near zero, and shipboard radar failed. It couldn’t have happened at a worse point. Lerro faced the most critical course change of the run, a 13-degree turn that would take him between the two main piers of the Skyway bridge. It was at almost this exact spot that the Coast Guard cutter Blackthorn had been rammed four months earlier by the tanker Capricorn. The Blackthorn sank. Twenty-three men died. Lerro approached the critical bend on a ship weighing nearly 20,000 tons battered by winds of nearly 60 mph. And he approached it blind…..... The horror in Lerro’s voice is painful to hear Lerro: Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Coast Guard. Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Coast Guard. Coast Guard: Vessel calling Mayday, vessel in distress. This is the United States Coast Guard, St. Petersburg, Florida. Request your position, the nature of distress and the number of persons on board. Over. Lerro: Get emergency . . . all the emergency equipment out to the Skyway bridge. Vessel has just hit the Skyway bridge. The Skyway bridge is down! Get all emergency equipment out to the Skyway bridge. The Skyway bridge is down. This is Mayday. Emergency situation. (Nearly screaming) Stop the traffic on that Skyway bridge!” CG: This is Coast Guard St. Petersburg, roger. What size is the vessel that hit the bridge? Over. Lerro: It’s a large vessel. Stop the traffic on the Skyway bridge. There’s some people in the water. Get emergency equipment out to the Skyway bridge. Now. CG: This is the Coast Guard, St. Petersburg. Roger. What vessel are you on? Over. Lerro: Summit Venture. Summit Venture. CG: Summit Venture, Coast Guard St. Petersburg, roger. What is the size of your vessel and can you assist? Over. Lerro: Cannot assist. We’re 606 feet long, light draft. We cannot assist here. We’re on an abutment. Stop all the traffic on the bridge. Send some vessels out here to render assistance. People are in the water…..... Source
