little rivers (?) australia / december 2007 last one of the sunset on the tracks series… www.elliewinds.com
If you look closely you can see two trains in this one. Firstly there is the blur of one on the left track heading away from the camera and then there is one approaching on the right track. I’ve deliberately left in it’s yellow light beam… Can you see them try viewing it large.. This was taken on the same night as Departure /

From a dream…
I went on a Photo Safari today…as I call it when I specifically go out with my camera to see what I can see and create. / I took some wonderful pictures and was very happy with myself. / Then on the way home on a rural road, I was stopped by flashing red lights at a railway crossing. / Looking down the tracks as I waited there, I saw what was coming. / I thought to myself, “wouldn’t that make a wonderful picture!” / Then, remembered my camera was at my side, resting on the seat beside me, I grabbed it, rolled down my window and took a few shots. / Oh, was I excited!!!! / This is one of those shots where you see the sight and wish you had your camera…AND I DID! / I giggled all the way home! / Snow Plow makes top 5 in the challenge Red and White in the Canada…The Great White North group / Snow Plow also makes it on to the Home Page! What a treat. Thank you RedBubble.
This is the first shot that I have posted in a while. It is also the first one I took with my new D700. It is a shot of a Train passing the current track works at Kirrawee Station. They are doubling the tracks. Theses works have been going on for a while now and I think they have also gone over budget quite substantially. Hope you enjoy the image. Cheers, Alex alexkess.com

Small cities have their own signs of industralization… [Nikon D2x]
Lake of Two Mountains, in the village of Oka Quebec, CANADA,taken on Saturday March 21st 2009 with Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens. / The tracks you see carved into the ice in the foreground are made by the cars that pass daily on the “ice bridge” from one side of the shore to the other. This ice roadway is maintained by a private company, has been 100 years in existence and no accidents have ever happened. However, the day that we were there, we noted during the afternoon that several pools of water had emerged over top the ice in some places and we presume that was the last weekend of using the passage over the lake to get to the other side. In a dream I walked along a deserted railway line feeling the gravel and beams under my feet and enjoying the sweet smell of poppies all around me. A lone buck stood off in the field beyond the willow trees grazing on the fresh sprouts of grass that arose after a spring rain. The sound of a babbling brook drew my attention to the gathering of ducks searching for food in the grass along the water’s edge. Geese honked as they flew overhead headed for the flooded rice fields I had walked past earlier. In the distance I noticed a gathering of storm clouds and the distinct shimmer of a rainbow as it started to form over a distant lush green valley. I sat down on the tracks enjoying the sunshine that I knew would soon come to an end as the storm came my way. There was a feeling of freedom and happiness that I never wished to end. The sound of my alarm brought me back to the real world. It was time to face another dreary day. As I stepped out of the house geese honked drawing my attention as they changed into a unique double X formation on their way to the nearby rice fields. I could hear the sound of a train as it passed through the middle of town and see a double rainbow as it started to form over a nearby valley. Suddenly, I had the feeling that this was going to be a very good and unusual day after all. Music / Blind Faith- Cant Find My Way Home / Come down off your throne And leave your body alone Somebody must change You are the reason I’ve been waiting so long Somebody holds the key Well, I’m near the end and I just ain’t got the time Well, I’m wasted and I can’t find my way home Come down on your own And leave your money at home Somebody must change You are the reason I’ve been waiting all these years Somebody holds the key I’m near the end, and I just ain’t got the time Oh, and I’m wasted, and I can’t find my way home But I can’t find my way home But I can’t find my way home But I can’t find my way home But I can’t find my way home Still, I can’t find my way home And, I ain’t done nothing wrong But, I can’t find my way home
The future of clean and green power it seems ! /
(Two photos to make one) The railroad tracks are from my long drive to Petoskey every day. They run right along the high way. I took some pictures of them and they looked a little bla. So I got to thinking…... Today I took some photos of my son in the back yard. I wanted to make some kind of a vintage traveler photo. This is what I came up with…..
taken in Southern Saskatchewan / Olympus E510 14/42 lens / lightroom photomatix HDR / the rail tie plates are cast in 1948 / in Winnipeg

Scanned slide. It’s been a while since these slides have seen the light of day… so I’ve been having fun revisiting them! Also, reliving the trips I took to take them. Anyone who has been in the Australian outback would have to agree it’s an incredible experience and one that stays with you forever. I have been blessed to have been included on two trips with some dear photographer friends of mine. Both were quite some time ago now and I sometimes find that my memory of where things were exactly taken has become hazy… so you’ll have to forgive me when I say… “somewhere in the Strezlecki Desert” ! I did keep a log of all photographs taken at the time (when, where, etc…) but after several moves it seems to have disappeared… bugger! If you haven’t been outback yet… you should definitely put it on the “to do” list… I know it’s back on mine… : )) Featured in the Outback Australia group
This painting is acrylic on back-stapled stretched canvas. It is 10”w x 8”h. The original painting sold in 2009 Ravens are a common and favorite image in the tourist spots and art galleries of Santa Fe, New Mexico. In Santa Fe, I have seen raven sculptures that are very huge but in this painting I decided to make a raven image that was very small (10” x 8” ). Ravens are considered to be bad by some because they are carrion eaters, but many others consider them to be good because they are believed to come and carry the recently departed to the beyond. I consider them to be good because how could something so beautiful be any thing but good?
Pastel on Colourfix paper (burgundy) 70cm x 50cm A track between the trees beside the Goulburn River, Seymour, which I often walk along. This painting was part of ‘My Easel & Eye’ solo exhibition in 2005.
I took this photo last year in Upstate NY. My calico cat, Little Bear had never seen snow before and these were her tracks. After watching her walk through the snow and towards the sunlight I felt that she was like me wanting that warm Florida sun. Living in Florida for the first 9+ years of her life snow was NOT something she was a fan of… and NEITHER AM I…lol…:) I am moving back home to Florida next month! YIPPEE!! Needless to say… I most likely will not be taking any more snow photos for a VERY VERY VERY VERY long time! This is Little Bear.. now 10 1/2 years old.
