  • This Black and White image was taken on a crisp Winters day in Paris. Most people admire the Eiffel Tower from afar but if you look up from beneath you get beautiful view that most people do not see…....actually the best view is from the steps that lead down to the toilets, before you pop to the loo’s, stop at the bottom step, turn around and look up.

  • Top Featured Piece Of The Day in the Live, Love, Dream group, 12th Nov, 2008. / Featured in the Rivers, Lakes and Dams group, 12th Nov, 2008. Early one January morning, I got out of bed before dawn and headed in to London and the Thames. I knew where I wanted to get the shot from. I set up the tripod and camera and waited. I hoped the sun would be visible, but had nothing more to base the possibility on other than the sky had been red at sunset the night before. My luck was in!

  • By far the most famous fictional ghost ship is The Flying Dutchman. The ship has become synonymous with the phenomenon so that “Flying Dutchman” is often used as a generic term for any apparition-type ghost ship. The term may also refer to a real ship that was reported to be seen – often as an apparition – after sinking, or to a ship found floating with no crewmembers on board. According to folklore, the Flying Dutchman is a ghost ship that can never go home, but must sail “the seven seas” forever. The Flying Dutchman is usually spotted from afar, sometimes glowing with ghostly light. If she is hailed by another ship, her crew will often try to send messages to land, to people long since dead. / Versions of the story are numerous. According to some, the story is originally Dutch, while others claim it is based on the English play The Flying Dutchman (1826) by Edward Fitzball and the novel The Phantom Ship (1837) by Frederick Marryat, later adapted into the Dutch story Het Vliegend Schip (The Flying Ship) by the Dutch clergyman A.H.C. Römer. Other versions include the opera by Richard Wagner (1841) and The Flying Dutchman on Tappan Sea by Washington Irving (1855).

  • Prague seen from Petrin Lookout Tower (Petrinska Rozhledna), Czech Republic. More than one year ago, I’ve got fascinated by some overlay works presented in various PS fora. Last year, I found about RB and soon could admire beautiful composite works of e.g. John Edwards here at RB. Inspired by many of those images here at RB or elsewhere, I’ve been planning to put my hands on some overlay work too, but I only got to it in recent days, ultimately inspired by The Wilds Of France by onefourseven (thank you, Mat, both for inspiration and a link to textures!). / This composite is my first result on the theme, composed of my original photograph and three textures from cgtextures.com. Comments and suggestions welcome! Original photograph: May 2008, Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, BW conversion, curves, sharpening, sepia, color adjustment, shape cut, filter gallery, overlay by three textures from cgtextures.com with adjusted brightness/contrast/levels/color, color adjustment, blend modes; final file: 24 layers, 5540×3693px, approx. 1.5GB, color profile conversion 10min, saving time >5min.

  • This is my first attempt at creating the tilt shift effect in Photoshop. Best viewed large This is the Trocadero, Paris, capital city of France. I took this from the top of the Eiffel Tower. The Trocadero is one of the few vantage points where the Eiffel Tower can be seen in full view. I don’t have many ariel view shots in my collection of photos, but this one thankfully served as a good image for this particular effect. For details on how I created this, please see here. Anyone who has photoshop or a photo editing program can do this. Adjustment of hue saturation and brightness, increase and adjustment of curves to increase contrast and colour further. Slight crop of original shot, as seen below. Couldn’t resist adding this after pmistric brought it to my attention. Its the sing-a-long version!!: MCN:C7XFY-U98AX-BYVB6

  • A panorama view from the south tower of the Mackinac Bridge between Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas

  • The view of Paris, capital of France. Taken from the very top of Sacre Coeur. Earlier today I had a phone call from Dean, asking if I would edit one of my existing shots for him to give to his sister for Christmas. He chose Atop Sacre Coeur, original of which can be seen below. After completing I thought I would add it to my folio. It has been a piece I have always thought about editing, but never actually got around to. I have never added a treated version of an existing piece to my folio, so this is all new to me! Let me know what you think of the two versions :) I edited the piece with a texture from www.deviantart.com free use stock, adjusted the colour and saturation, layered twice.
