A Summer landscape in Holland
Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
This was taken along the Princess Hwy,traveling to Bairnsdale, Victoria. It’s so sad to see the effects of the drought first hand – the paddocks lined with dead trees and in the fog were a testimony to our harsh weather AS IS
/ Holstein Friesians / Bega Valley Holstein Friesians are a crossbreed of 2 types of cow. Friesian cows were originally from Friesland in Holland and first arrived in Australia in the 1850’s. These big cows are black and white and produce lots of milk. As farmers are paid on the amount of milk they produce, Holstein Friesians are quite popular, making up more than 60% of Australia’s dairy cattle. They can cope with a broad range of temperatures and conditions.

Sunset on the Yosemite Valley.
Rocky Mountains, Canada looking towards the Columbia Icefields. Taken during summer 2008 in Jasper National Park.
Yosemite Valley, California, taken in Northern California. / Canon Powershot SD200 Not just a great Valley… / but a shrine to human foresight, strength of granite, power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra. / Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. / / / /

The Giant Redwood National Park, California, USA, contains the tallest living things on earth, evergreen trees that grow to 350 feet. For me personally, not the most beautiful tree, biggest isn’t always best, but it is pretty overwhelming and magical to walk through on one of the many popular trails that exist here, and to gaze upwards, a neck-breaking experience ! I feel they are best seen in the mist, adding an air of mystery ! / My fave trees ? The Scots Pine and the Silver Birch of course ! Shot on my Canon EOS 20D,mounted on tripod, f11, 1 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in Photomatix, single file pseudo HDR, adjusted in Adobe Camera RAW, then in CS3 I applied the Orton effect to emphasise the textures on the trunks, reducing the opacities for the final result. The Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Teton National Park, Jackson, Wyoming, USA. I got up early for this one, I had travelled thousands of miles to see it, had only one morning to get my shot in the bag – and what did I find ? / A film crew shooting an advert ! Along with a battalion of other photographers, I was champing at the ‘bit’, since we weren’t allowed to shoot in case we captured the models – male and female – the whole darned thing was so artificial !! So, when there was a lull in shooting, I crept under a bush and hastily ‘snapped’ my shot. Maybe I should pursue a career in the ‘Paparazzi ??!!! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D with polarising filter attached, mounted very hastily on my tripod, Canon efs 18-55mm lens set at 45mm, underexposed by half a stop, f 27, 1/20 sec, auto wb, iso 100, RAW file developed as much as possible in Adobe Camera Raw, then in PS CS3, selective Levels/Curves, saturation of colours achieved with LAB colour, then the tiniest amount of Orton applied, to ‘pop’ the textures of the wood and grass. We really don’t get much snow on the West Coast of Scotland, because of the influence of the Gulf Stream, and on the rare occasion it does fall, it is soon gone!! / Beinn Bhan is one of the peaks of the Applecross range, seen here from near Ardarroch, Loch Kishorn, on a gorgeous Winter’s afternoon. just as the sun was going down…at around 3.30pm !! Shot on my Canon EOS40D, tripod, polariser, f22, 1/10th sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour/hue and saturation. MORE OF SCOTLAND HERE.. /
Saint Mary Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. Where else would you want to be on a morning like this ? The Elk were bugling across the Lake, it was warm, the air was very still, reflections all around me, gorgeous mountains everywhere…......... / felt like I was in heaven !! / All I had to do was get down a very steep bank on the lakeside – then get back up, Help !! / Magic ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter attached, f22, 1/15 sec, iso 100, auto wb, shot at 50mm on my 18-55mm lens, RAW file processed in Adobe Camera RAW, then CS3 with tweaks in levels/curves and selective colour. Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Pretty much a tourist snapshot of the Falls, which I thought I would share with you ! / A rather crowded place, justifiably so, who wouldn’t want to see this sight ? The Canyon has some amazing colours, and I found the best time was towards evening to be viewed at it’s best. The vertiginous slopes are very loose and crumbly, and I wondered how those trees maintain their perilous foothold !! Shot on a Canon EOS 40D, polariser, tripod, f22, 1/3 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour adjustments. This is the Isle of Skye at it’s best, when there is a lot of colour in the landcsape, with the low sun we get this far North at this time of year, accentuating every detail. / This is the crofting community of Tarskavaig, with the glorious backdrop of the Cuillin Hills. / “Crofting” is small time farming, or “smallholding” where a few crops might be grown, and a small number of cattle or sheep kept. A single RAW file, shot on my Canon EOS 50D , polariser filter, f25, 1/2 sec, underexposed by 2/3 stop, iso 100, auto wb, processed in Adobe CR, then in CS3. MORE OF MY ISLE OF SKYE WORK…...

The iconic Liathach rises above Loch Clair, on a beautiful Winter’s day. / Not a perfect reflection, but still a wonderful scene. The dead tree has stood there for as long as I remember, in just the right place for a great composition. / Liathach is one of the Torridon Hills, in the North West of Scotland. Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, tripod, polariser, f19, 1/20sec, iso 100, auto wb, single RAW file pseudo HDR in Photomatix, finished in PS CS3. MORE OF MY WORK HERE /
