This is on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Tail. It is located on the backside of Gatlinburg inside the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. It is a one way 5.5 mile auto tour. It is not a loop and but will still bring you out in Gatlinburg. Unlike Cades Cove it don’t get the amount of tourist. Where Cades Cove is in the cove of the mountains and open Roaring Fork ain’t. It is a winding narrow road thru the forest and along the Roaring Fork stream. It too has some historic structures and wildlife but not that of Cades Cove. Roaring Fork is noted for the stream and lush moss covered boulders. The original road was a wagon trail built in the 1850’s to serve the community of a couple dozen families. Roaring Fork got its named from the roar of the rushing waters. It is one of the steepest in the eastern US and can get loud during high water. Mostly during the tourist season it is low to average and is quite relaxing to lounge beside.
Autumns colors are some of the showiest in nature. The warm hues must be intended to raise our spirits before the cold of winter. Nature could also be trying to show us even though they have been green all year and appear to be one; they are many different individuals which are very different. That being different didn’t stop them blending in as everyone else. Regardless of the why the beauty is fabulous. I hope that you are blessed as well as I with fabulous fall color, in your area of the world…..image was taken on New Found Gap Road from the Oconaluftee Valley Overlook, GSMNP…hill to the left appears steep as the road was cut from it
The classic black and white image! The Eiffel Tower lights up the city of Paris and reflects in the pool below. / This photograph is one of our best sellers, and we think it’s probably because Paris is everyone’s favorite place to visit for holiday, honeymoons, or getaway weekends.
Pentax Optio 750Z 1/40 7mm F 2.8 ISO 200 – Point and Shoot / Overcast, grey and raining; grey stone and grey story. It is said that when the scuptor was not paid his dues, the image surrounding the lion took on the form of a pig – a comment perhaps of what he thought of the patron who kept the purse strings closed – I wonder? What I now find interesting – and disappointing – I can not recall the legend or story of the demise of the poor lion! / However with thanks to Lisa Williams and Wikapedia … / “A sculpture designed by Bertal Thorvaldsen. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris, France. / The dying lion is portrayed impaled by a spear, covering a shield bearing the fleu-de-lis of the French monarchy, beside him is another shield being the coat of arms of Switzerland. The inscription below the sculpture lists the names of the officers, and approximate number of soldiers who died (DCCLX =760) and survivors (CCCL=350) Wikapedia. / Taken in what I believe is Gletschergarten Lowendenkmal Luzern Switzerland. Perhaps someone can help me with the details? I had posted an earlier close up image of the lion which did not attract attention or comment. Can someone help? (Lisa Williams 17/11/09 … thank you!!)

This is one of quite a few pictures I took of Metallica on stage last week at Nottingham arena. The guitarist you can see is Kirk Hammet and the 20 odd foot coffins moved up and down during the songs. Fantastic live band, must see.
This image was inspired by the music of Nano Stern (from Chile) – Uplifting and inspiring, his music and lyrics imbue ‘the elements’. / I chose to depict Nano’s guitar with wings, because his music just takes you away to a special place! If you like the image, check out his music / www.nanostern.com Nano is touring Australia in March & April 2009! / And he tours the globe extensively…
One of the most interesting towns we visited was Akko, also known as Acre in northern Israel. Situated along the Mediterranean sea, the old city and fortress are fascinating to explore. The antique stone walls, streets, tunnels and bustling market create an atmostphere that is hard to describe. I could have easily spent an entire day here but was grateful for the few hours that I had. Colorful boats of all shapes and sizes grace the harbor and a large pile of fishing nets caught my attention as we were rushing along the path eating fresh dates and baklavah.
Taken Feb 25/09 Paris, France / This is one view from the top observation deck on the Eiffel tower, the highest structure in the city. / According to Wikipedia: Including the 24 m (79 ft) antenna, the structure is 324 m (1,063 ft) high (since 2000), which is equivalent to about 81 levels in a conventional building.
