For the longest time I dreamed of a wild adventure in Italy. In April 2008 that dream became an extraordinary reality. My best friend and I flew to Italy to take photos, record organic sounds and gather information for our upcoming exhibitions. We took a photography workshop in Venice … enjoyed a cooking class in Florence and participated in an intensive painting course in Tuscany with an accomplished and well known artist. After traipsing through mud and climbing up mountains lugging an easel, stool, canvas, paints and materials, my enthusiasm for painting under the tuscan “sun” (rain) was ebbing. This vibrant painting was the result of painting till 2am so that I could run away the next day with a private driver to take photos of the magical Tuscan landscape. I wanted to leave the confines of the art course and dive right into this painting. Under this tree, I could fall asleep with the warm sun and cool poppies tickling my face. Under this tree I could eat chocolate and drink cup after cup of rich Italian coffee. It is important to note that while painting I was isolated in a farm house and there was no phone, no car and no kettle to make coffee. While I found the sparse lodging quaint, the lack of coffee was hard to swallow. So I guess the experience put meaning to the words suffer for your art lol. Still, this painting is a vibrant representation of my ability to always look on the bright side of life. It is an exercise in making colours move and once the jet lag subsides I hope to re paint it on a larger gallery wrapped canvas with artist quality materials. (c)Sooz2008

It took many kilometres in heat to finally find and photograph this famous curvy road that waves it´s way up the hill at Montichiello, Italy. Tuscany is full of amazing views and hidden gems, and this was one of them.
