This photo is for Jan, who has a blue-cream tortiseshell cat of her own. See? I told you they were long-lost siblings! This is “Jumping Jasmine” or “J.J.” for short. Never let your kids name the family pet, by the way. Thrown away at the ripe old age of 6 weeks old, we found her at the railroad tracks and she’s been a joy ever since, even when she destroys my spider plants by laying in them!

Meet my Scorpio persian cat “Calico” who has enough cattitude to take on all comers! I’m told that we share this expression, a-la owners taking after their pets, but who taught whom? Calico is a dilute calico tortiseshell – she has a cream gene imposed over the normal torti colours, making her smoke grey/apricot on white instead of black/ginger. She is also called by her Indian name “Runs Too Fast” when her back legs overtake her front legs on the way down the staircase – she used to do this a lot as a kitten, but has mostly outgrown this embarrassing habit now (given she is now 13yo, you’d hope so!) I also own 2 of her daughters: Ghost Dancer and A-Wahoo

Tortoiseshell describes a coat coloring found almost exclusively in female cats. Cats of this color are mottled, with patches of red and black, chocolate, or cinnamon. They are sometimes called torties for short. The term “tortoiseshell” (also called calimanco or clouded tiger in North America) is typically reserved for cats with brindled coats that have relatively few or no white markings. Those that are largely white with red and black patches (rather than a brindled aspect) are described as tortoiseshell-and-white (in the United Kingdom) or calico (in the United States). Tortoiseshells and calicos are not specific breeds of cat. The tortoiseshell markings appear in many different breeds.This pattern is especially preferred in the Japanese Bobtail breed. was Featured by The Old Farts of RedBubble Group here: Her Story / Our precious Squeek passed over the Rainbow Bridge and went to meet all our other beautiful and beloved fur-babies early Tuesday morning. I have her rescue date, (or birthdate as we liked to call it) as May 23, 1998. / She was a part of “Bob’s” family that includes both Bob’s, Chloe, Sam, E.T., Cody and Simon. Thomas was also a part of her family who preceeds her in death from cancer. Squeek was never the cat in our family that got much positive feed back from others who visited the house. As a matter of fact, it was because of her that I got some of what would be the first foul reactions that I came to despise, when trying to re-home our rescued kittens. People came to see “this litter” because we thought at first that we would try and find homes for them and one of the first things they’d say about Squeek was “how ugly” she was. It only took that one comment from people I didn’t know to make me decide that none of the kittens were going any place. And over the years, even family would say Squeek was ugly and my heart would break for her. They never knew her the way I did, and while her outward appearence may not have been to others taste, her “purr-sonality” was like so many others we’ve rescued over the years who just craved love and attention. I held her in her passing and buried her in her Christmas blankee along with a new mouse received at Christmas time. She was beautiful in my eyes, and always will be. And she will be GREATLY missed. This card is created in her memory and in her honor.

Tillie was a splendid Tortie shell cat. However, her hair made wearing T-shirts nearly impossible. Her body was tiny, but not with all her gorgeous hair.
