  • At first I wasn’t sure if this shot was a keeper, the RAW file was pretty bland and boring. After playing around in LightRoom I came up with this, which I really like. / Using LightRoom I tried to create 3 distinctive layers or “elements” in the shot by adjusting contrast, sharpness and clarity. I think the shot now exhibits a clear foreground the stone shishi, mid section being the tree and background the Torii.

  • This is that famous Japanese icon, the great gateway, or “torii”, to the Itsukushima shrine on the island of Miyajima, just off the coast from Hiroshima.

  • The Torii on Miyajima Island during low tide.

  • Fushimi Inari is a remarkable shinto shrine near Kyoto, characterized by its hundreds of gates (torii) snaking up the hills. It is located on a beautiful forested mountain, and makes for a great hike. There is a mysterious feeling to this site, and even though it is somewhat outside the main visiting sites of Kyoto, it is a great experience to spend a day there. It was most recently featured in scenes of “Memoirs of a Geisha” (2005).

  • Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kyoto, Japan.

One of Kyoto’s oldest (founded in 711 AD) and most revered Shinto shrines, Fushimi Inari serves as the headquarters for all the 40,000 shrines dedicated to Inari across Japan. / Dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, sake, and prosperity. / It was featured in the film Memoirs of a Geisha.

  • Just of the coast of Hiroshima, Japan, there is a holy island, Miyajima. If you take the boat there early in the morning this magnificent serene view is yours. If you’re unable to go there in the early morning and want this view, then you’ll just have to buy a print. ;o) Also available as wallpaper for your desktop more work / Part of this calendar / Sold as a Matted Print to an anonymous buyer.

  • The amazing house being born behind the handcrafted (and now slowly disintegrating) Torii Gateway is a testament to the quiet genius of the man who designed them both —including the long completed habitation in the furthest background that is his home in Western Massachusetts. What is vital about the new construction that he has named GroWorld is that it sits atop a 170+ ton structure called a Thermal Anchor, something that, along with the unique architecture of the rest of the building, will enable it to maintain a relatively stable, constant temperature year ‘round —without the use of fossil fuels for heating or cooling. GroWorld will also have a fabulous atrium/greenhouse at back (seen here, through the Torii) that may have raised permaculture beds resting on paramagnetic earth, along with hydroponic systems, for growing high quality organic food all year! —Enough to feed everyone in the home! Eye am truly excited about this project and am helping to build it myself. We need more projects like GroWorld; all over the World … Aloha!

  • The Fushimi Inari shrine is famous for its thousands of torii gates that cover the hiking trails of Inarisan, the mountain behind the main temple complex. It’s a spectacular sight, not easy to forget! More Japan / / /

  • “A torii is a traditional Japanese gate commonly found at the entry to a Shinto shrine… / It has two upright supports and two crossbars on the top and is frequently / painted vermillion. Some torii, such as illustrated here, have tablets with writing mounted between the crossbars…. / The origin of the word Torii is unknown. One theory was it was designed for birds to rest… / In Shinto, birds are considered messengers of the gods. A second theory / is that it is derived from the term tori-iu; pass through entry.” / (taken from Wikipedia) A traditional torii (gateway) is mirrored in the lake of the Japanese Garden , in Brooklyn, New York / ~~~~~~~~~~~~ / Image has been viewed in excess of 100 times. • The largest Torii (Shrine Gate)in the Meiji Jinju Shinto Shrine stands over the entrance from the Meiji Jinju Mae Metro Station. The Shrine is built in the Nagarezukuri style and made from Japanese Cypress Trees from Kiso. Providing an oasis of peace in the middle of busy Tokyo, interred at the Shrine are Emperor Meiji (Era 1868 – 1912) and Empress Shoken. The shrine houses every type of tree species found in Japan.

  • Just a fun poster for a mate’s gig, which I used to get into Sketchbook Pro. Not a bad wee program for $20! I also well enjoyed referencing samurai armour and themes in this quick sketchy piece.
