This is that famous Japanese icon, the great gateway, or “torii”, to the Itsukushima shrine on the island of Miyajima, just off the coast from Hiroshima.

This is Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. A Shinto Shrine with thousands of vermilion torii lining the paths on the hill on which the shrine is located. One of Kyoto’s oldest (founded in 711 AD) and most revered Shinto shrines, Fushimi Inari serves as the headquarters for all the 40,000 shrines dedicated to Inari across Japan. / Dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, sake, and prosperity. / It was featured in the film Memoirs of a Geisha.
Kyoto, Japan. One of Kyoto’s most picturesque and interesting locations. One of my favourites.
The optimum Australian Christmas wish.
I fell in love with this beautiful dog with her flowing hair, painted with pastel pencils.

A set of images that i took on the ferry crossing between the North and South Island, New Zealand. I shot them for the cloud pattern, not worth much on there own, but chopped up and re alined with a dry brush effect in PhotoShop has made them worth showing. Shot along the west heads of Tory Channel after a very rough crossing, all calm in the sounds. shot on a Nikon D700 wit 24-85mm Nikkor lens, and manipulated in PhotoShop.
This piece was made with my photos, a royalty-free image of a dress (that was altered significantly) and part of a free texture from Advanced Photoshop magazine. The title and image is partly inspired by a Tori Amos song off her album The Beekeeper with the same title.
A collection of illustrations of contemporary female singers.
The very first Tori Amos painting, done for a magazine out of San Diego no longer around, called Axcess. Watercolor. Bootlegged on a cd. For the ‘best selling item challenge:’ I am not thinking of best selling on RB, because unfortunately, I have sold nothing yet. However, over the years, I think this has sold the most. The biggest reason is, of course, there are a lot of rabid Tori Amos fans. It is the first Amos image I did, so it has been around long enough to be sold at conventions, online, etc. It was in a magazine, so it had some exposure there. Plus, my association with Amos through the art I did for her tourbook and the calendar I did for the RAINN organization might have helped as well. And of course, I hope it is a good painting all on its own!
Another Tori Amos image for the RAINN benefit calendar and probably my favorite. Watercolor on gel medium, still available! As for the technique, After doing the drawing (in this case, it is on illustration board, though I would on paper more often), I use a large brush to spread gel medium over the whole board. Sometimes I spread the texture to correspond with the forms, sometimes I don’t. After it is all dry, I apply the watercolor, lifting off areas I want white or light. It’s a fun process, partially because the paint sometimes moves where it wants, as in the right side of the painting (helped by some brushwork and tilting of the board).
Thanks to models Tori and Alex (links to profiles coming shortly) but special thanks to Greg Desiatov whom I shall credit with Art Director for this shot :P Greg actually deserves most of the credit for this shot, but I’ll let Greg explain that one hehe There is a story to this shot though, but its not what you think. This is not a story about fear or danger. This is the story of a princess, the princess has a plaything that she loves as her true friend. The princess loves to be pursued, so her plaything pursues her so she knows she is adored. The moral of the story is, that not all that seems to follow is as it seems to the outsider and some like to be pursued as the thrill of the chase is excitement as long as they want to be caught.

Black Ink, Graphite, Coloured Pencil & Pastel on A5 110 gsm cartridge This began as a sketch on the Palm Beach ferry… on a near perfect sunny day. It follows on from Girl & The Sea, continuing to explore my love of the ocean & the peace & serenity it brings. The title, Caught A Light Breeze, comes from one of my favourite songs ever… music soothes the soul, just as much the ocean sometimes.
Black Ink, Coloured Pencil, Graphite, Pastels & White Gel Pen on A5 110gsm Cartridge Liquid Diamonds / Tori Amos / “i guess i’m an underwater thing / i’m liquid running / there’s a sea secret in me / it’s plain to see it is rising / but i must be flowing liquid diamonds” There is something about the ocean that renews the soul… refreshes the mind in a way that goes beyond just the sensation of cool water on skin… washes all the worries of the world away. I drew this in my week up in Byron… i hadn’t intended to draw any more “girls & the sea”... i guess i can call it a series now that there’s 3?... / It’s just what flowed onto the paper as i sat in the sun watching the waves break, dissappearing into a some sort of seaside trance… i guess maybe i am an underwater thing.

Inspired by a beautiful Tori Amos song entitled “Black-Dove(January) She was a January girl / She never let on how insane it was / In that tiny kinda scary house / By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods / By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods Black-dove / Black-dove / You’re not a helicopter / You’re not a cop out either / Black-dove / Black-dove / You don’t need a space ship / They don’t know you’ve already lived / On the other side of the galaxy She had a January world / So many storms not right somehow / How a lion becomes a mouse / By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods / By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods But I have to get to Texas / Said I have to get to Texas / And I’ll give away my blue dress Black-dove / Black-dove / You’re not a helicopter / You’re not a cop out either / Black-dove / Black-dove / You don’t need a space ship / They don’t know you’ve already lived / On the other side of the galaxy But I have to get to Texas / Said I have to get to Texas / And I’ll give away my blue dress She had a January girl / She never let on how insane it was / In that tiny kinda scary house / By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods / By the woods, by the woods, by the woods, by the woods / Black-dove….. / /
Acryllic + Ink on Canvas 50×60cms Painted specifically for the Mirrors Exhibition ‘09 / “Beauty is not just an image, it’s a feeling” “Mirrors” is a Charity Art Exhibition Benefitting the Butterfly Foundation / Raising much needed funds to support Eating Disorder patients, their families & loved ones, whilst also raising awareness in the wider community. The event also seeks to promote positive Body Image through art… / “Expressing, transforming and clarifying the shades of limelight that frame our body image.” / Currently on at the Mori Gallery in Sydney until October 24, for more event details see here / And read about other bubbers involved here Whilst What If I’m A Mermaid… is an obvious reference to the subject of the painting, it’s also a line from one of my favourite songs by Tori Amos, which is as open to interpretation & woven with different meanings & messages as this painting perhaps is… there are threads in both to which i feel we can all on some level relate. When it came to elaborating on what those messages were or are for the sake of the exhibtion… Well… I wrote one artists statement… followed by another… and then another… and another. Somewhere around 10 i decided to stop… It was not that i was unhappy with a single one of them, quite the opposite, each seemed to inspire another thought, i’d tilt my head & see yet another perspective, many of which weren’t even conscious in my mind whilst painting… / What it made me realise was that more than anything this painting was not so much about me expressing or conveying my thoughts, nor was there a singular message that i want or wanted people to be taken from it… purely & simply it was aimed at inspiring thought in a different circle… & so rather than cloud that thought with words, i decided to let you ponder… “What If I’m A Mermaid…” You can see my painting from last years exhibtion here / As well as the prints i donated of my “Girls of La Mar” series… / Liquid Diamonds / Caught A Lite Breeze / Girl & The Sea More on Mirror’s soon
