Back in the day me and my brother would ride our skateboards to some hill and ride down them. Pretty basic stuff, and it almost isn’t done any more in this simple way. Just the same fear played a factor in these little boy games, as you usually reached a speed that exceeded your ability to run it out if you chickened out! High speed wobble mean anything to anybody here?
I took the ref photo of the Snow Leopard for this pastel, at Taronga Zoo. The icy penthouse I created for him, exists only in my imagination. :)
As the sun set the Topping’s rock face lit up.. the sky was cloudless around the peak. I decided the shot was needing the sky to go with it.. a bit of photoshopping using a sky shot taken earlier seems to take care of that.. / Roseberry Topping is a beautiful hill that looks like a mountain, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.. Part of the Ophelia series. / Model is Missy / Makeup and Hair by Loran Bean / Assistant – Adam / Photography and Post by myself Comments are very appreciated. please leave one! I thought I might say a little bit about how we got these Ophelia shots. Missy is a VERY talented photographer friend of mine (to view her work, go http://missyjanek.deviantart.com/) and she has also modeled for me in the past. I thought she’d be great for this concept, so we started about 3pm yesterday. All was going well until she got in the pool and said “I don’t know how to swim!” So we struggled and propped her up with pool noodles and floaties and Adam even held her legs while she tried to stay afloat. I felt like she really was going to drown a couple of times! (We kept her in the shallow end, of course! and my dog was keeping watch as life guard.) For someone who had not really been in water before, I think she did a great job. :)

Mother and child Great Blue Heron as night falls . . . I thought of the song, “Help me make it through the night” while I worked on this piece. I’d be remiss if I didn’t give my husband Tommy credit for this photo. He saw the mother and child as he was driving in St. Mary Parish. He pointed them out to me, turned the vehicle around, and positioned the truck so I could get this shot. Without his keen eyes, I would have missed this endearing scene. Thank you, Tommy; I couldn’t do it without you!
This is a drawing I’d done inside my own leather journal. I scanned it and added lots of textures and colour. Of course… recognition goes to the great JL for his lyric. The brain is the hard drive… the epicentre that drives it all. The ears are our microphones… and our hearts are our bass amps where we feel the sound. One of the greatest joys I can feel is to find a song that touches on such a deep and moving level… thats when the sound travels straight to my heart!! This little dahlia is just waiting to come into full bloom. Photo taken near sunset. Taken earlier this year!! Swan Island Dahlia in Canby, Oregon. They are about 2 miles from my home and I spend most of my August there. The best part is everyone has dahlia’s and can be photographed very easily. I even have about 7 or 8 varieties in my own yard.
