As a child I have fond memories of eating Jelly Babies when I lived in England. I later found out that they were originally known as Peace Babies. Jelly Babies were launched 75 Years ago by Bassett’s – one of Britain’s oldest sweets manufacturers – to celebrate the end of the first world war. Peace Babies were popular between the wars, but production ceased in the Second World War because of a shortage of raw materials. They came back in 1953, renamed Jelly Babies. I thought I’ll paint some of the famous Bertie Basset’s liquorice allsorts too,,,I use to love the black jelly ones with thousands and thousands on them. Oh the memories of childhood :)

This is a great poster for kids or a nice card to give when they lose their first tooth!!! A visit from the tooth fairy is always very very welcome!!! :) Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …
Grey Nurse Sharks hang out off the NSW coast. Grey Nurse Sharks are known as Raggy Tooth Sharks in South Africa and Sand Tiger Sharks in the US. They are endangered in Australia, particularly in New South Wales waters yet the government has only made a half hearted attempts to protect the species. This shot is taken at Fish Rock, a known GNS aggregation site. While I was diving here several boats were fishing in this “protected” site (couple of hundred meter radius)...protecting = no anchoring for the fishing boats…..a joke! If there is a happy story for the GNS, its that public awareness of its plight is growing and that has to be a good thing.

This cute seal had just had dental surgery and was trying to get sympathy from it’s trainer/carer through the glass by holding it’s jaw. Poor thing.
On DeviantART / ArtRage 2.5 and graphics tablet / Original Date: March 2008 Don’t ask me my name / Don’t ask me to look / Don’t ask who I am / Don’t ask me to stop Don’t ask why I rage / Don’t ask me for life / Don’t ask to be saved / Don’t ask to escape Don’t ask me to leave / Don’t ask me to forget / Don’t ask why I bleed / AND DON’T ASK HER NAME Don’t ask who she is / Don’t ask why she hurts / Don’t ask why I drew this / Don’t ask. Just. Don’t. And long after I drew this, I’m finally able to write down some of the description that was in my head as I painted her. / People say she’s abstract. This surprises me _ And something looked down and said “This is wrong”. And they were torn apart. And now she guards the gates of heaven for evermore, until her love is returned to her. And no angel may pass. On lighter screens, you can see the bottom edge of the wings quite starkly / – they’re supposed to nearly blend into the darkness (and my settings are right. I checked) / I discovered new ways to use ArtRage with this – the semi-transparent veils, for example, are thin lines of blur/soft palette knife. She’s waiting for you to die and try to go to heaven. Then she’ll tear your wings off and throw you back down to hell. As mentioned.. she’s a little irrational. /
Did the tooth fairy come to visit your pillow (as a kid)? I saw this ornament in a boutique window on Main Street in Santa Monica, CA. It was quite small, so I was happy with the way it came out here. :)
Now that’s a forced smile :) Sold as a large framed print here on RB /

Portrait of a guy (Indian or Black American) underlying a bolted frame plate covered in a block print along with surrounding abstract shapes and textures, some flat, some in 3D. A white airbrushed cloud was added to this composition to bring more depth between the shapes also creating a frosty cold air feeling for this black and white image. 1-6-07

Back in the mid-1980s, the Tooth Fairy lived in Idaho, and we corresponded regularly. Volunteering in a hospice with end-of-lifetime patients and their families and friends, she was a certified grief counselor, the steady hand that held the devastated up until they could stand again on their own. / There are several stages of grief, and my friend often dressed up as a magic fairy to lead her groups- she said it helped break down the walls people put up; a short, brunette, pudgy, middle aged, freckle faced lady in a shimmering, draped gown with a sparkly halo and a magic wand wasn’t very frightening, and she could often reach people through an “If you could be granted any wish. . .” approach. / As months and years of dressing in this getup passed, she became more and more comfortable in it, to the point that she once thoughtlessly scheduled a dental visit right after a Grief Counseling session. / Not thinking a thing about it she popped into the Dentist’s waiting room, signed in and sat down. It was a small, very rural town and she mostly wore her outfit to her meetings and then changed into jeans and a sweat-shirt right away, but people knew who she was. She was alone in the waiting room for some time, in her gossamer gown, her magic wand, and crown. / When her name was called and she toddled back to the inner sanctum, she found that treatment area was the one at the farthest end of the clinic, and as she started to rustle down the way behind the other patients, she noticed some rustling in the little cubicles, then the office was suddenly filled with choruses of, “Mom, Mom! LOOK! It’s the Tooth Fairy!” All the other patients were children, and a few had spotted her and given voice. / Thinking quickly, she reached into her pocket and found a tissue- and some change. So at each little treatment cubicle she stopped, gave each child a Tooth Fairy Blessing, knighted the child with her wand and gave a bit of change to each one depending upon the child’s age. With empty pockets but full heart she finally made it, glowing with pure joy, into her own treatment chair. / “I’ve never had so much fun at the dentist’s in all my life,” she told me in a letter that evening. / (R) Dayonda 09 Nov 2008 Drawn in Corel Painter Essentials 4, lit by Light Artist. / EXPERIMENTAL because this is the first from-scratch painting in CPE I did.
