Firewood for tonight by flyingdocphotos. / Village woman from Bromo, East Java Indonesia. This image was taken in a small village on the outskirts of the Bromo caldera volcanic region of eastern Java, Indonesia. I was playing around with my 100mm macro lens, capturing some spider pictures then this lady appeared down the trail, emerging from the fog. I stood at the side of the road, smilied and raised my camera as she drew close. As she saw me, she smiled, nodded back, posed and I took a snap. Then (I think she thought I was going to take only one photo) she started walking along again, focusing on the uphill path in front of her – and that’s when I clicked my shutter again, capturing this image.

Capt. John Davis and Bombardier Lt. Carl Thompson are walking passed their bird to meet the rest of the boys for a few beers. Both can faintly hear music and laughter of men spilling from a tent near the end of the runway. Davis looks back into the setting sun, listens to the big radial engines still ticking from an earlier test flight. The distinct smell of burnt oil still lingers in the air. / “God I love that smell” he thinks to himself. / He gazes down upon the puddles of oil underneath the port and starboard engines. / “Hey, does it look like engine one is leaking more than usual?” John asks, turning to Carl who had his half smoked cigarette in the corner of his mouth. / “It’s been leaking more since Frankfurt”, Carl replies. / “Frankfurt? Yeah, I think you’re right”. Davis can still hear the screams of the waistgunner, when the shrapnel tore through the entire port side. / “Poor Sammy, he never had a chance”, Davis says. / Carl didn’t reply, just walked quietly next to John, the setting sun throwing long shadows onto the tarmac, making them both look like giants. / Both men knew that tonight they indeed feel larger than life, because there is no mission tonight. This is not one of the flowers from my show and poems for her but will be in my book. I kiss your lips my lovely dove your trembling in my arms. / Your here tonight to give yourself it’s you that wants not I. / You settle into my arms and touch my face so soft. / And then you kiss me on my neck and tell me I am loved. / You come to me my precious love your hands shake from your fear. / You touch me where you’ve never gone I feel your pounding heart. / I hear you say that its ok you want this more than I. / But my love for your virtue tonight I must deny. / I want you too my body says my mind says this is wrong. / I want to hold you in my arms as any man would do. / But something says I need to wait until that time is right. / And look at you with loving eyes and not with shame tonight. / I feel like we are cheating two kids out in the car. / But here we are both adults but love this isn’t right. / I want to say please baby lets just wait awhile. / And then when your my lovely wife I’ll know the time is right. / And then I’ll look you in the eyes without one ounce of doubt.
