Lets look at doing a split tone effect in Photoshop. Split Toning is accomplished by adding colour/tone to the shadows and colour/tone to the highlights, and is really easy to achieve in PS. First off you’ll need to grab the practise image, or use one of your own. Just click on the image below to grab the larger version …. copyright is mine etc., etc., The first thing you need to do is make the image into a B&W version. You can do this by using a Hue/Sat adjustment layer (which is the preferred method because it is editable) and take the Saturation slider all the way to the left. Or, go to the top menu bar and use Image>Adjustments>Desaturate (not the preferred method). In the image below I used a B&W adjustment layer in CS3 and the Maximum Black preset. You can grab the image if you want to use it, just click through for the larger version. Now we are going to use a Colour Balance adjustment layer. Using an adjustment layer will give you the ability to go back and adjust any of the settings later if you want to without having to start from scratch. Go ahead and bring up a colour balance adjustment layer, and it really doesn’t matter if you start with the shadows or highlights – I’m going to start with the shadows. Make sure that the ‘Preserve Luminosity’ box is checked, and that the ‘Shadows’ box is checked and start playing with the slider – in the example below I have simply added some red to the shadows – you can add whatever combination of colours/tones you like. When you are happy with the colour/tone in the shadows, go ahead and check the highlights box then start playing around with the sliders till you get something you like. I have simply added some yellow into the highlights in the example below. When you’re adding the second tone to the image, you will see both the shadow and highlight adjustment – I’ve simply kept them seperate to show you what is happening. You can see the difference when the original B&W and the split tone image are side by side in the image below. And our final image on its own. Play around with different colours/tones until you get an effect you like. Have fun, and if there are any questions just ask.

GOOD GOD.. / I allowed myself to see a documentery called “The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (2007)” and what a doozy.. It never ceases to amaze me how the stupidity of our far right thinking gets us. We spent more money on arresting and finding growers of marijuana and building jail after jail to house the arrest of these growers and distributors than we do on all the heroin, crack cocaine, meth labs ect all the hard drugs participants combine!! Did you know before 1930’s Hemp was forseen back then as a billion dollar industry!! BACK THEN.. billions of dollars is like now trillions..Holy Cow.. will we ever get out from under our own stupidity and become ENLIGHTENED!! Just for a minuet I find peace in my week and in the mood for allowing for all that is in the contrast of life… and the next I watch something that is sooooooooooo crazy and thought-provoking like the money being made in the building of private prisons.. oh my yikes…. then… WELL THANK GOD FOR Unconventional Artistry GROUP AND THE AMAZING HOSTS… / CHEYWINGS AND EARTHMONSTER / SENDING OUT WORD that I had been given the complete honor of being their featured artist this go round and an invitation to view my lastest work LIMBER TRULY .. Damien has opened the second challenge in the ‘Elements’ series for entries over at the International Superheroes of Illustration Tone refers to the lightness or darkness of a colour. It can be used to highlight elements, bring them forward, add texture or depth. A good understanding of how light falls is essential. This one will be open for a bit longer than the last to allow people to get their entries in. You have a month to think about your entry and really get something good in. Think of it as a school assignment. Do some homework) and learn some shit, and then give us your best shot.

First select the magic wand tool then click on the darkest part of the image. Right click and choose “refine edge” from the pop-up menu. Slide the “Feather” arrow to a value of around 12 (you can vary this of course but this is a good starting point). Next, hit ctrl-j to create a new layer of the selection you’ve just made. Open Image->adjustments->colour balance and use the sliders to achieve a tone you like. This will only affect the layer you are working on. If you plan to further edit the colour in this layer you could open it as an adjustment layer instead (under “layers” in the top menu). Next, select the background layer and go to colour balance again and use the sliders as before. A good chocolatey sepia colour can be achieved by selecting +7 on cyan/red, 7 on magenta/green and -16 on yellow/blue. When you are happy with the results, flatten the layers (layer>flatten image) and you’re done!

Thank you so much Sensual Word for Featuring my poem Purple Passion. Purple Passion was a poem I wrote that was inspired by Reynaldo’s beautiful Painting Purple Passion. Purple Passion was the last painting (and poem) in our collaboration the Passion Series. Thank you so much Darkmonkey for this feature. Also thank you TOTS and Adrian (Ademac) for featuring my Self Portrait Half Mask in The Art of Duo Tone Erotica. I truly appreciate both of these features. With love, Anthea

hmmmm. a bittersweet moment… my last school exhibition has arrived and tomorrow we get moderated… dum dum dum… so iv spent the last few days running around like a chicken without its head trying to get everything done. Now my stuff is alls et up and i await… I took some pictures (especially for Andrew!) of what it looks like so you don’t have to leave it all to imagination! ;) just keep in mind it isn’t a gallery but a classroom turned expo!!! :D I have three artworks, My Personal Journey, Reneweal and the final My Space. I have done three verying types of photography in each (the first was long exposure with lights, the second underwater photography and now i did portraiture but conceptualy!) all very confusing… and then amongst all of it, each artwork has a cocoon that links them all! The My Space i challenged myself and made a bodycast as well as just over 30 portraits. They all linked to people invading my space and affecting me, both positively and negatively. In the display of photos we see how all the people link and form a lattice of bonds. The body cast then represents me wrapped in a cocoon of lifelines, lines that link to all the people who have affected me… there are some knots in some places, representative of thelittle speed bumps encountered along the way! for more view this pic Here are some photo’s… / / / / / / /
