Beautiful big headstones at the cemetery
In the grounds of St Mary’s Church Witney - History / John Holloway, the same wealthy cloth merchant who was responsible for funding the Bluecoat School, willed this row of almshouses to Witney town in 1723. The endowment seems to have been for six blanket makers’ widows and each was to have ‘a lower and an upper room, together with a little garden, and other things necessary’. The following qualifications were required of the widows: Such as are no busybodies, nor proud, nor idle persons… being of a good life and godly conversation. If any proveth contrary thereto… they shall be put out by the Trustees. Moreover, each indweller shall keep her rooms clean and decent, and as much as they are able help to keep all the premises clean and in good order in all respects. They shall keep sensible hours at their respective habitations, and be of a loving, sober, and good behaviour. The almshouses that can be seen today are not the original ones but a rebuilt version erected in their place to a Gothic design by William Wilkinson in 1868 Thank you for looking

The hands of a helping angel :) Melaten, Cologne – Germany Defining myself with that picture – or what makes me being me … is not that hard – if you should understand what I mean. Let me bring it into words: A helping hand can be reached out – but when it is not taken … no help can be given. That is one thing … I did try helping people since my youth … and I still try it – if someone allows it. I tried it with opening their eyes for all the beauty, by words, photography and paintings. I try to help with my energy work and spiritual life coaching … But as well – the hand depicts your actions … as it is so, that nothing will happen when you don’t want it to happen… you have to act and not only sit there and waiting for other to act for yourself. So this pictures shows two things – first that you will receive help from others (persons, guardians, etc.) and second that you are your own helping hand. I am my own helping hand … for me and for others. This is me … my way of being … and I am proud I did recognize it :)
Melaten cemetery, Cologne Listen closely … / Listen … listen to thy heart. Can’t you hear it? / Can’t you hear it beating in the way you are? Are you deaf for the beat of thy soul? / The beat of thy life? / The beat of thy faith? Listen closely … / Listen … listen to thy heart. It tells you thy story, thy fortune, thy path! Listen … listen … / to the whisper of my mumbling voice. Listen … ‘cause I am here for thee. Words by me!

No, it is not the Taj Mahal, it is the Taj of Deccan. Popularly known as Bibi ka Maqbara meaning Tomb of the Lady is the mausoleum of Aurangazeb’s fourth wife, Rabia-ul Durrani. It was Prince Azam Shah who got the tomb built in memory of his mother. This mausoleum was designed and erected by Ata-Ulla, an architect and Hanspati Rai an engineer. It took 10 years to complete the work from 1651 to 1661AD. It was modeled on the Taj Mahal at Agra, Uttar Pradesh. There is the central tomb with four minarets at four corners of the raised square platform. The pathway is beautiful; there are the fountains, pools and tall trees on both sides. It is not completely made of marble like the Taj Mahal, only the lower portions are of marble. This monument is one of the best Mughal buildings at Deccan i.e. South India. It is located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. Shot was taken in Dec 2007.
The complex encompasses the main tomb of the Emperor Humayun, which houses the graves of his wife, Hamida Begum, and alsoDara Shikoh, son of the later Emperor Shah Jahan, as well as numerous other subsequent Mughals, including Emperor Jahandar Shah,Farrukhsiyar, Rafi Ul-Darjat, Rafi Ud-Daulat and Alamgir II.[4] The complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Fontevraud Abbey has a hotel within it and this is where I stayed on my way down to the Dordogne. / The abbey is where Eleanor of Aquitaine, her husband Henry II of England and their son Richard the Lion-heart were buried. / She was a powerful woman who was married to Louis VII of France until she allegedly had an affair in Constantinopole during the 2nd Crusade. / The marriage was annulled and she later married Henry Count of Anjou and Duke Of Normandy, later Henry II of England. / She acted as regent while her son Richard went off to the 3rd Crusade. / She was also the mother of King John of England. / The Abbey was founded in 1101, in 1804 Napoleon transformed it into a prison. featured in Amazing Graves One of the more ornate tombs in St. Louis No.1 holds the remains of Italian residents of the growing city of New Orleans. It is also one of the better maintained tomb complexes within the cemetery, adorned with beautiful statuary shown in other images from this series. As we were leaving New Orleans, we stopped to visit St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 on Basin Street. The oldest extant cemetery in the city. It was established by Spanish Royal decree in 1789. It is a fascinating place to visit. Tombs of some of the earliest residents are located here and also the reported final resting place of Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of the city from the 19th century. This Cemetery was also a location featured in the film classic ‘Easy Rider’. No visit to the city would have been complete without a stop to visit this historic area. View and buy the calendar
