Poulnabrone dolmen is a 5,000 year old portal tomb in the limestone Burren area of County Clare, Ireland. The dolmen consists of a massive flat capstone supported on several upright pillars, and would originally have been covered by a mound of earth. Archeological excavations found several traces of human remains at the burial site, which now stands as a stark reminder of an ancient civilisation. Looking back through the mists of time, who knows what ancient religious rites took place at this barren and windswept scene? Winner of the Heritage in Stone group challenge Stone Circles and Standing Stones.

yesterday I attemped to have a conversation with someone about what consitutes a ‘real photographer’. rather that respond he reacted by telling me I’m a negative psyhco bitch, the only bad thing about Redbubble and should hurry out to buy razor blades and kill myself. no shit! I guess this means I’ll never be a ‘real photographer’ so to celebrate my freedom from the label of ‘real’ I’ve decided to concentrate on posting some UNREAL photographs. Here’s the first. This is a chance shot taken while someone slept in the set of an alternative theatre production some years ago. Vale Peter your real to me still though you are no longer real in a corporeal sense.
Featured in the Amazing Graves group and / Featured in the Ancient Ruins and Relics group. Lycian rock tombs in Myra, Turkey. / In ancient times the Lucian cut their tombs into the rocks. The Lycians seem to have held a belief that the souls of their dead would be transported from the tombs to the afterworld by a sort of winged siren-like creature, and so often placed their tombs along the coast or at the top of cliffs when they were not integrated into the liveable areas of the cities. / The tombs are dated to the 4th century BC.

Star Trail shot of the Poulnabrone Dolmen. This shot was taken with a full moon and captures the movement of the stars accross the sky over a 12 minute period. Dating to the Neolithic period, (4200 BC to 2900 BC) this portal tomb in the Burren consists of a twelve foot tabular capstone supported by two slender portal stones, and bordered by a nearby cairn. Excavations in 1985 discovered the remains of at least 22 adults and children buried in the tomb

This is actually a beige room, but it came out green and I love it! One of those ‘ooh look how that came out!’ moments!
I thought of Thee, My Partner and My Guide, / As being past away. / Vain sympathies! / For backward, Duddon! / As I cast my eyes, / I see what was, and is, and will abide; / Still glides the Stream, and shall not cease to glide; / The Form remains, / The Function never dies; / While we, the brave, the mighty, and the wise, / We Men, who in our morn of youth defied / The elements, must vanish; / Be it so! / Enough, if something from our hands have power / To live, and act, and serve the future hour; / And if, as toward the silent tomb we go, / Through love, through hope, and faith’s transcendent dower, / We feel that we are greater than we know. A view of the Taj Mahal at sunset from across the Yamuna River.
As the sun rises on the Taj Mahal, the best view is behind the monument.
Shot from a loft view within the Old Cellulose Factory near Millicent in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. It was as if the machinery had been swallowed up and buried in situ when they closed this magnificent old factory. Went out today with Biggzie for a scouting session within the factory in prelude to the photographic session to be finalised soon with Tony Ryan from Melbourne. PS: Happy birthday Biggzie!!! This painting is dedicated to Isha Schwaller de Lubicz who, under the direction of her husband and teacher, R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz, lived for fifteen years among the temples and tombs of Luxor and Karnak, in order to try and “penetrate the secret symbolism of the hieroglyphs.” 2nd February 2009
Soldiers who sacrificed their lives during world war 2 should never be forgetten.

Third United States Infantry, The “Old Guard,” one of the oldest and most respected Infantry Regiments in the United Stated. Since April 6, 1948 the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, regardless of weather. The sentinel marches 21 steps across the black mat, past the final resting places of the Unknown Soldiers of World War I, World War II, Korea, and the crypt of the Unknown Soldier of the Vietnam War. With a crisp turn, the sentinel turns 90 degrees to face east for 21 seconds. The sentinel then turns a sharp 90 degrees again to face north for 21 seconds. A crisp “shoulder-arms” movement places the rifle on the shoulder nearest the visitors to signify that the sentinel stands between the tomb and any threat. After the moment, the sentinel paces 21 steps north, turns and repeats the process. Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia / canon 40 D /
The images in Nefertari’s tomb are over three thousand years old. They are battered by natural decay, looters, earthquakes, human humidity and stupidity. Yet they stand. After three thousand years they still speak to viewers directly, easily, as if they haven’t aged a day – a paradox that makes sense. / The Egyptian Snail – A glyph for maleness!
