  • This was in my sons head and is now in three dimensional reality – it is a play on words – My Own Son. The Aztec Mayan symbology is reflected in the mandala : The verdigris and gold pyramids symbolize the steps he will take in his life. / The eagles symbolize his connection with Great Spirit – his totem at birth was the Wedge Tailed Eagle. / The jaguar pawprints symbolize journeying, and the great wild velvet cat that purrs beneath his skin… / The compass points his directions in life – he will walk them all. / The symbols within are Mayan calendar symbols representing his birth time, birth date and other relevant information. / At the centre is the feathered serpent – Quetzlcoatl – twinned. The light and the dark, the good and the bad, life and death are intertwined in symbol. / Heavily jewelled (well, paste LOL) and gilt with gold – my gift to him as he was my gift to me.

  • modified photograph of one of my oil paintings

  • The “Ball Court” at Chitzen Itza saw the best of the best players from around Pre-Hispanic Mexico compete for the ultimate prize, immortality. / The captain of the winning team would, in grand ceremony, have his head cut off to be proudly displayed on a pike. / His blood, soaking the ground, would sanctify the land and ensure spiritual rebirth. / His skin would be carefully and meticulously flayed from his body and worn by the elder. / How many ghosts haunt this arena? / Although the image appears to be skewed with the wall on the left distorted inward at the top, it is as appears. The walls were built that way to provide a very specific acoustic signature that would yeild a precise number of echoes and a whisper can be heard from one end of the pitch to the other. I don’t think I would want to be there alone after dark. Shot with a Pentax K20D, handheld. Five exposures at +/-1.5EV. Images processed with Photomatix and PS Elements 7.

  • A 260 day Mayan Tzolkin calendar with the day one date on IMIX is 9-9-2009.

  • Why wait until retirement ! For the past twenty Years I’ve had the desire to take this wonderful vista Scenic Rail Excursion ! and now that I have the desire is to do it again ! Views such as this have a way of wetting the appitite so to speak ! So I had to jostle with about thirty other people in the open flat car to grasp moments of the open air views, many of which were looking back from where we had come, the beauty of course is that the train was working most of the time climbing and litterally chugging along at a slow pace, my mind on the other hand just racing along looking at all the natural beauty, shortly after this moment captured, we were in Eagle territory, they played above these hills in the updraft of the thermals, An area called La Manga Pass, here I am with two camera’s around the neck, talking with the Docent of views comming up, views expected to see, his claim I must be seriously into photography, he saw the camera’s and the smile as wide as the sky ! a most beautiful way to spend the day making the most of the moments, count ! Camera Olympus E-510 with the modest 42 to 150 mm lens looking for the Eagles yet totally satisfied with the view ! Now sharing, the smile returns ! the baby side of the Colorado Rockies !

  • They call it a narrow gage, and it does indeed navigate some tight places, mear inches away of heavy rock, the 60 or so mile run crosses the state boundry of New Mexico and Colorado, I believe said six times, it is definately a switchback, in order to climb at a max rate of 4% up and over mountains, destination either way, Chama New Mexico to Antonito Colorado, they call it a scenic experience, They’ve got that right, especially from September to winter closing, Olympus E-510, Kit lens 42 to 150 mm. since I can only view exif data with another program, if you need it, it’s specific to a 4/3 rd’s Camera system. Chama, New Mexico USA Working Yard, and getting ready for our run the following day ! Train vintage 1925.

  • The Cumbres and Toltec railway runs between Antonito, Colorado and Chama, New Mexico. This is just outside Antonito. This is one of the special Christmas train runs that are scheduled every December. He is laying on the whistle and peering anxiously out the cab because I am too close to the track. It was a close call (objects in viewfinder are closer than they appear). Pentax K20D
