  • Urban cityscape as viewed from the observation deck of the Shinjuku government tower (the south one, I think) in Tokyo, Japan. (Admission is free to both towers’ observation decks, so if you’re ever in Shinjuku, bear that in mind. Bear in mind also that your chances of the weather being clear enough to see Mt Fuji are cripplingly small. I certainly didn’t see it!) Anyway, back to the shot: I like it, it’s pretty cool, and I just adore Tokyo; but I was really, REALLY surprised when it won the October pentaxforums forum challenge poll, for the theme : “Cityscape” 8)) So in that regard, I guess it is the most ‘popular’ photo I’ve taken, as well as one I like!

  • Walking, talking, laughing, sneezing, coughing, running, looking, pressing, pushing, yelling, holding, pulling, arriving, leaving, guessing, shouting, moving, moving, moving. A sense of urgency floods the streets like wild light. Known and unknown sounds travel distances through the air and collide into blasts of excitement and adventure. Traffic flows endlessly through the intersections, carefully watched by billboards and office windows. A pedestrian crossing screams stop as a red light breaks the momentum and a few seconds are spared for reflection and a sigh of solitude.

  • Photo taken November 2006, Daikanyama, Tokyo, Japan.

  • Taken in Village Vanguard store, Shimo Kitazawa, Tokyo. From right to left we have cans of oden, seal curry, deer curry, minke whale curry and bear curry.

  • Tokyo.2007

  • Ikebukuro, Tokyo. The morning rush across the street from the train station and metro. Everyone jostling for space. I think it shows how hectic life can be in an Asian metropolis. / Today was my first try at using long exposures, and I felt that this was the best of the bunch from today. Any constructive criticism is welcome. I took this close-by to my home. !

  • Cherry Blossom covered bridge near Tokyo.

  • A little while ago, I too was asked to design something, along with Scott, for some limited tshirt greatness. After lessons learned, coolness achieved, and so I don’t have to go into the witness protection program, I am able to now offer it to you…. on whatever colour you desire….... at the time it was going to go on some Royal Blue goodness – the best colour. The concept, although many and varied in my mind, is one I hope you all dig. it was going to be an oversize, overseam printy goodness DJ i’ve changed this slightly for The Bub tee template

  • Ikebukuro is, after Shibuya and Shinjuku, one of the busiest spots in Tokyo. At night the opportunities for photography are everywhere. But it can be overwhelming sometimes. I usually choose to stay in one place for a while and let the action unfold, rather than to always be hunting for it. Nikon D300 / 85mm f/1.4 AF D

  • Not only do Japanese bullet-trains look cool, the ladies who work on them are beautiful too.

  • Finally I got out amongst the autumn trees today with two of my photography students. Plus I had a little time myself to shoot some of the trees in Yoyogi Park on what was a beautiful day with gorgeous light. This pic is currently in the ‘Zen’ competition at JPEG magazine. If you fancy voting for it, click below: http://www.jpgmag.com/photos/1247898 Nikon D300 / 80-200mm f/2.8 ED IF / Hasselblad border film scanned in [this pic just seemed to suit a square composition]

  • I spent some time at the beautiful Rikugien Park today. This little detail of branches, leaves and bokeh caught my eye soon after arriving at the park. Nikon D300 / Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 ED IF @ f/2.8

  • i saw a guy on a train in tokyo with this odd slogan boldly slapped across his over-sized calico bag. it was just big black text, but it stuck with me (god i love japlish) and therefore i decided to give it a face. thankyou random tokyo funkster *BELIEVE IT OR NOT – THIS TEE HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH SWINE FLU….IT WAS CREATED LONG BEFORE THE CURRENT EPIDEMIC…......(was said tokyo funkster in actual fact some kind of mystical disease prophet..?...) HOWEVER, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DENY THAT IT REPRESENTS IT PERFECTLY, AS MANY HAVE POINTED OUT TO ME!! so i have succumbed and entered it in the swine flu challenge….so give it a vote if you like it! thanks! featured in beige is death

  • 31 years after World War III…....

  • Rushed to catch the train when I saw what the weather was like. Normally, the front is empty where I get on, but when I boarded, Sod’s Law decreed that there were 2 people standing in front of the window – A big guy with a newspaper and a little old lady with a walking stick. I was just trying to make up my mind which I was going to strike down when the old lady got lucky and was offered a seat : )

  • Vector image, drawn from a photo taken in Tokyo. Also added a couple of scribbly, hand drawn headphones in the foreground to give it some depth. I just hope my interpretation of those characters hasn’t changed their meaning too much!!!!! details /
