This is an early illustration from the Life Cafe New York Picture Riddle series that I have produced over the last two years for the entertainment of the clientele. / Before producing the pastel drawings on paper, as I do now-I used to draw directly in chalk onto the cafe walls- all very well until I had to rub them off each week. At first I thought it was a dead arty thing to do, you know ‘Destruction is Creation’. Then I thought, “naw, it’s just stupid!” and bought some paper.
