A long lens and a little patience rewarded me with a silhouetted fishing boat with a large glowing sun in the background. This was taken at Bang Sare. One of my favourite sunset locations. I used to go there often when I lived in Bangkok but it is many hundreds of kilometres from where I live now. When I lived in Bangkok, even though I had a car, one of my favourite ways of getting around was by Tuk Tuk. Three wheeled machines that defy all laws of physics, and the road. This image was taken with a very wide lens as we sped through traffic to our destination. Lot’s of fun :<)
Again, taken at Bang Sare the setting sun, a very long lens and a small fishing boat provided me with a wonderful scene. My eyes were watering afterwards from looking at the sun too much.
There is a story to many of my images and this one is no exception. I was walking around Wat Suthet which is at the base of the ‘Golden Mount’ in Bangkok. I noticed a group of monks going into the temple and decided to see why. When I got to the door I saw many monks sitting inside. I was quite excited as this type of image I had wanted to get for a long time. Quietly, I set myself up to capture the image. My camera has a silent shutter and I squeezed the button and then, with a big grin on my face, turned to leave. Whilst I had noticed the scaffolding surrounding the temple, I had forgotten all about it as I was taking the image. The crossbar of the scaffolding just outside the door was at forehead height and, you guessed it, bang. As the blow was quite painful a, relatively, loud expletive escaped my lips. I gathered my composure, dared not look back and carefully slipped away. Featured in Art In Asia – 27th October, 2009
Incense, a garland and a worshipper at Erawan Shrine in Bangkok. The faithful come here as a respite from their busy city schedules and make offerings at the shrine.
Sam Roi Yod (300 Peaks) National Park is a favourite photo destination. I was very fortunate to get this fisherman pass me as I waited to take an image.
On a very quiet back road, I stopped to take some images of the distant mountains. When I turned around this Monk was walking along the road with his trusty companion. I don’t know where he was going as there were no villages close by.
Walking around Wat Po, I came across a Monk standing in contemplation whilst smelling a flower.
As the day closes, fishermen sort their catch on the beach at the small fishing port of Sathahip, Thailand. Ayuthaya was the capital city of Siam. It was referred to as the ‘Venice Of The East’ as it was built upon several small islands at the junction of three rivers. Canals also interconnected most parts of the city. / It was destroyed by invading armies some 225 years back and virtually the entire city was razed. Temples, Buddhas, palaces, all were destroyed and looted. Most of the Buddha images had arms and heads or ears removed. One version of this I have heard is so that the Buddha could neither hear nor respond to the pleas of the people of Siam. / There are still many ruins today and here a monk and a young novice, carrying a plastic toy, walk through the ruins of Wat Chaiwattanaram. / The image has deliberately been digitally altered to give it an effect as if taken by a ‘Lomo’ camera.
The beautiful glow of light at day’s end illuminates a small craft as the fisherman heads for home. Bang Sare, Thailand. Featured in SEA group – 18th November, 2009.
A gentle sea, warm breeze, the glow from sunset and a stroll through the shallows. Refreshing for the soul.
Sometimes nature’s palette is not overly dramatic but provides simple subtle hues. This early evening image was taken at Krabi and I really like the range of soft colours it provides.
A fishing boat returns to harbour as Dawn light breaks through.
... A local temple (Wat) has vivid colours depicting a celestial scene. The bright robes of the Monk only accentuate this. Hua Hin, Thailand. Featured in Art In Asia – 27th October, 2009
A young boy, at a fishing village in Koh Samui, reacts with a wonderful smile to the camera pointing at him.
The setting sun provides a rich light for this silhouette. Hua Hin, Thailand.
Silhouetted by a beautiful sunset afterglow, this fishing boat leaves port for it’s nights work.
Walking along the beach, I saw this man about 200 metres away carrying his net. I ran up the beach as I knew he would soon cast it. When I got there I took this first image and then several others as he cast again. This was the one though. Krabi, Thailand. Featured in JPG Cast-Offs / Featured in Going Coastal – 19th August, 2009
