Tagging your work

I’ve just gone through trying to find links to all the cards I bought, and that’s when I realised how important your tags are. Finding an artist by name is fine, if you know their name, but finding an artwork by title doesn’t work with the search facility unless the relevant title words are added to the tags. I must admit I found this out a couple of weeks ago, and have been adding title to tags since then, but I’m going to do it for the rest too, because the time it took me to find all those cards again was just enough to start making me tear my hair out! So please please please people…..tag your work!!!

Arcangelina has written a piece inspired by an image titled *The Way Out*!
by Paul Louis VillaniThank you Arcangelina ...
Thank you Arcangelina / for the email you sent me to inform me about this piece!! / It is amazing! / My image The Way Out / / has apparently inspired Arcangelina to write a poem! / Please check it out and leave comments for her Here ok… Here is the piece… “THE WAY OUT” / She tiptoes ever so gently through the avenues of her Soul / Stops and searches, sits and waits / And like a mystical happening / The train “The Way Out” appears at her gate “The Way Out” is the freedom needed / As she prepares herself to leave / For it will take her from this earthly space / And lead her into a cosmic place This ageless beauty’s journey started with such haste / Yet in a breath it was replaced / As “The Way Out” moves swiftly down the tracks / It is Heaven that waits Beyond the horizon a Bright Light she sees / Where the Angels gather and loved ones appear / They beckon her to descend / For her journey has come to its end By ARCANGELINA / 17-12-2007 Please leave comments here

I mean, how do you go about choosing titles for your images? I’m at the stage where I’m running out of titles for my images. They either seem corny or boring or they’ve been used before or they are so try hard. Is there something I’m missing perhaps, is there a website out there that will computer generate the titles for me? I look at what others name their images, and they’re very good. Even their use of “Untitled” seems very good, but on my images, it just doesn’t work. I have several images in my portfolio with very silly titles, like “flower G” – that image doesn’t even look like it should be called “Flower G”. Should I number my images and forget about names? Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated! ;D

ATTENTION! Invitation to all Wordless Artists and Clever Wordsmithians! Ok.. i believe if there is people like me in this situation, then there MUST be others in same boat.. so .. maybe together we can come up with something (or at least spark some ideas and possibilities ) TITLES on images / artwork / creations : I for one, cant seem to come up with good titles – to compliment, express the image. Some pix/designs i can.. some, sorry, most – i get a blank and revert to boring titles, or end up with many similar pieces with same to similar title, ... yeah.. BoOOORiNG!! Whats made me write this journal.. is that upon seeing how when one buys the mounted and laminated framed pieces.. RB puts a real nice sticker with Artist name and Title.. so this means.. we should, i should, put extra thought into what words could be hanging around some wall somewhere. / Then i thinks some more and go, HEY.. in RB theres LOTS of talented writers with no images and i go HMMMMMMM… you guys reading this—know where im heading? For starters – im calling out to all WORDSMITHS : you know, you are good with putting words together like im good with photoshop :P Images that i would like a Title assistance from others, i will tag it ‘Titletank’ – this will allow eventually easy viewing of which pieces needs a Title. Wordsmiths and all that have ideas of suitable title – can post in Comment section. Once i find a suitable title, i will then UNtag the piece, cuz its then a completed journey :) So – what you Bubblers think of this quirky idea? EVERYONE IN REDBUBBLE IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE! I hope to see other members photos tagged with TITLETANK as well : : Please? flutters eyelids >> CLiCKiTY CLiCK >>> TITLE TANK : WORDSMITH OUR ART!

I am curious as to where people go when faced with filling in that tricky box labelled “Describe This Work… TITLE“ Hmmm, me? (And this is to avoid Mr Tupman from caressing his comments with Russ Abbot lyrics on my work ever again!) As you know my ipod takes a lot of credit but in case anyone is remotely interested (don’t kid yourself!) some of my sources of inspiration are as follows: Song titles and lines from songs – Keep Watching The Sky / A line taken from a Pop Will Eat Itself song entitled PWEI-zation “I bring you a warning / Tell the world, tell this to everybody wherever they are / Watch the skies, keep looking, keep watching the skies“ – Find Comfort In Yourself Song title by Midtown – Full inspiration comes from the chorus / “I’m never going back, i’m over feeling sorry so just deal with it / There’s nothing wrong with that , find comfort in yourself / I know that what you have’s not what you are“ – Endless Summer Taken from a line in Pacific Ocean Blue by A from Hi-Fi Serious (recorded at Billy Boy’s studio in Belgium he tells me!) / “Thanks a lot, you can be / what you want, honestly / Magic Days, Golden Nights / And Summer Is Forever, It’s The Endless Summer“ – Stranger Things Have Happened Taken from one of Boz’s favourite bands – This is The Foo Fighters song Stranger Things Have Happened “you are not alone dear loneliness / you forgot but i remember this / so stranger, stranger, stranger things have happened i know“ – What If The Seas Refused To Wave A line taken from The Smashing Pumpkins “Apples + Oranjes” “What if the sun refused to shine? / What if the clouds refused to rain? / What if the wind refused to blow? / What if the seas refused to wave? / What if the world refused its turn? / What if the stars would hesitate?“ Steal The Light Out Of The Sky Taken from a line from New Order’s Dream Attack from the album “Technique” “Don’t look into the sun / It’s not for me or anyone / To steal the light out of the sky“ What is your inspiration?

Your views please. Was just sitting here thining….I know I know…a dangerous thing! Anyway was wondering about Photo titles. Do you think it makes a difference to how people view a photo based on the title or description you give? Does someone view a picture differently if the title is catchy v/s an untitled work? I would be interested to hear your views. Robin

The age seem not important when you think you had a “revelation” :-). / One may have gone all one’s life without really noticing it, and suddenly it smacks you in the face….hard. I only now realised how important is the title we give to our shots…...! It conveys the mood – our feelings – our intentions in that particular (and only) instance. Is the “handle” we put to our feelings. Let me explain: / I was showing to my 41year old daughter the “Ghost Town” shot…...the title was not visible (I had not scrolled up enough) and she said…’ the people look like skeletons’..’..... I had succeeded!!! She got exactly the impression I had wanted to achieve when I worked on it with photo shop…! Is only than that I fully realised how important is the “handle” we put to our work! / That the “title’ of our picture is almost as important as the picture itself – that in a lot of instances we risk (even) to bare our souls by putting a particular title on our work – we owe it to ourselves and to our work to bare our soul if necessary – and allow people in, in that special corner of ourselves we try so hard to protect. I am new at this and most probably I am learning (here) what you experienced artists have already ‘forgotten’....but if you did, try to re-capture again that feeling….. take your time in choosing a title….to bare your souls….

HOMECOMING by A. Jill Gaebel / © 1997 When darkness softly kisses my lids / And the silence of eternity caresses my ears, / When gravity no longer pulls at my shoulders / And hungers no longer drive me forward, / I will know that I have come full circle. When my eyes are no longer stung by joy or pain / And life’s sorrows have lost consequence, / When right and wrong become one / And time and space no longer exist / I will know that I have arrived from whence I came

Ok, I have a question, based on my pickyness about English language I’m afraid. I can’t decide how and if to comment on mis-spellings in titles or descriptions. Should I? I know how easy it is to let a typing error slip into titles and descriptions, and indeed other written pieces on here, I do it myself frequently, but its not these I’m specifically talking about. (And obviously for non-english speakers this is also less of a niggle, I wouldn’t be able to spell in their language so the occassional spelling error is understandable!) I think for photos this site is to display the art, not the writing quality (obviously different for written pieces)! But from my uni presentation moments, a bad spelling can just ruin a presentation- sadly they draw the eye don’t they? What to do, any thoughts? Cheers

Titles that work for Google - Redbubble Optimising

I was thinking about the titles of my art and t-shirts I have here on Redbubble. And I wondered why my traditional art work pieces had so many more views than my other photographic works. I then realised that my traditional art works had a lot more key words in their title that would have better results in a Google search than the one or two word descriptive titles I had used for my photos. So yesterday I went through and re-titled all of my pieces in a way I thought described the genre of the photo and included appropriate key words. Example “Juxtaposition: Contemporary Urban Melbourne architecture photograph/ photography (print)” I also thought this really lets people know what the art is about when they are casually browsing. Imagine my surprise when I did a search on Google today out of curiousity and discovered that “Juxtaposition” shows up 8th in the search results for “Urban Photography Melbourne” . And my Chameleon t-shirt comes up as the first result if I search “Chameleon t-shirt” on Google. Interesting, very interesting. Of course it doesn’t detract from the need for me to make great art and designs to share here on Redbubble. And only time will tell if it will lead to any sales. And truth be told, sales aren’t really that important to me as I am not a professional artist. I am just here for the fun of sharing and learning.

Thank you to the people who made suggestions about a possible title for a recent picture of slightly ramshackle hut on the kings dock in Liverpool. Having been given some good ideas and taking one suggestion up “the leaning tower of Liverpool” I have decided to go with “Farewell”, this describes how I feel about all that is a little shabby being taken over by the new and shiney in the city, after all, it was the shabby I liked most when I first visited Liverpool.
