‘Tis the last rose of summer, / Left blooming all alone, / All her lovely companions / Are faded and gone. / No flower of her kindred, / No rose bud is nigh, / To reflect back her blushes, / Or give sigh for sigh. Words by Sir John Stevenson, 1761 – 1833 / Melody – Thomas Moore, 1779 -1852 The song has been made famous of recent times by Andre Rieu and his JSO and can be heard in the “Live in Dublin” and “Flying Dutchman CDs and DVDs.

It was a freezing day while River and I were in the nature park. The trees looked cold but stood tall and strong. This is the same image as the first “Winter Blues” after Gigi told me that I should try a darker color for it. So it qualifies as my third try on this “effect thing” thanks to all the instructions and guidance from my “mentor” on this matter! I guess one could say that I love anything that has to do with nature including the living beings, the woods, the trees, the rivers and streams, and the mountains…. In a way, the trees represent longevity even though my “rational mind” knows they don’t live forever – my “passion” towards the trees is in its “illusion” of the ever lasting life, or perhaps what it always gives back to the earth in living or in death. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.
Tijs Verwest (DJ Tiësto) painted after a photograph taken during performance in club 66 on Bali in 2006. One work from a series of portraits, the originals are 50×50 cm. More portraits you can find at www.portableart.com in the section paintings.
The brother and sister recognized River from last fall and they both came to say “hello”. The “brand-new” fawn followed suit as her brother and sister seemed to know us and thought of us as “friends”. :) Before they circled my overjoyed dog and they all ran off together, they first make sure that they got their spring morning “family photo” taken. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park

Although military architecture is often ugly, here the Battery / has been built into the mountainside in the style of a castle, using a lot of / local stone. During the early part of the 20th century a system of coastal defences was constructed to protect the vital harbour of Cartagena. This included forts, guns, fire control systems, searchlights and many other elements. The system included four of the largest artillery pieces ever made – huge 38.1 Vickers guns with a range of some 20 miles. These guns remain in place, two here at the Castillitos battery, at Cabo Tiñoso, near Puerto de Mazarron, & two at the Cenizas battery, near La Manga Club. Up in the open air, the mean and menacing guns point seaward and they would have been virtually impossible to spot from any distance, with their low profile and camouflage. At the back of the battery, out of sight of observers on warships, however, imagination has been allowed to run riot in a mass of turrets, castle walls and decorative stonework. The effect is pretty comical when one considers the deadly power of the guns to the front. Look up and below the big guns and you can see other batteries. Nikon D40, 18-55mm, auto RAW MAP

FLOWER,,
‘TIS THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER ‘TIS the last rose of summer, / Left blooming alone ; / All her lovely companions / Are faded and gone ; / No flower of her kindred, / No rose-bud is nigh, / To reflect back her blushes, / Or give sigh for sigh. I’ll not leave thee, thou lone one ! / To pine on the stem ; / Since the lovely are sleeping, / Go sleep thou with them. / Thus kindly I scatter / Thy leaves o’er the bed, / Where thy mates of the garden / Lie scentless and dead. So soon may I follow, / When friendships decay, / And from Love’s shining circle / The gems drop away. / When true hearts lie wither’d, / And fond ones are flown, / Oh ! who would inhabit / This bleak world alone ? Thomas Moore (1779-1852)
Time! – what a subject! what is time really / when is the right time / time used wisely or squandered / rich moments or emptiness so much we “measure” in time … yet, time is such a subjective thing … We can hear the ominous boom of the clock up in the tower … / or the light and bright little ticktock of a smiley faced clock on the mantle ... so what is time really? ohhhhh what a delight! Time’s illusion was featured in ImageWriting 03.05.2009 … an honour and delight – thank you so much! Featured in Friends of Bangor and North Down Camera Club 01.06.2009 – thank you kindly! Fall is almost upon us. The colors will begin to bloom their sunshiny and flaming colors to proclaim the event before the snow comes. The last hurrah before wearing cloaks of white. Crisp nights cooling from the mellow nights of summer. Days of kicking piles leaves as a child. :o) Created in Fractal Explorer. Postwork in Photoshop.
