My local beach. Easter Monday, 2008. The white house at the rear was built in the early nineteenth century and was the residence of Joshua Fergusson, who sailed his ship, the Jupiter, from England in 1815. There is an 1840 painting by Walter Synnot which features this scene in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts.

The nets have just been taken off the vines at Tinderbox Vineyard, Tasmania, for a final ripening of the grapes before harvest. The white house was built in the early nineteenth century and was the residence of Joshua Fergusson, who sailed his ship, the Jupiter, from England in 1815. There is a painting by Walter Synnot which features this house in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts from 1840.

My home town of Tinderbox, southern Tasmania. It’s not exactly a hive of activity, but Lonely Planet does mention our underwater snorkel trail, and our community regularly gets together at the beach for barbecues. We also have three vineyards, a boat ramp, a beach, and a playground!
