My favorite personal photograph of New York. Nikon F3, Tmax 400 pushed to 1600.
You see it on the movies, TV and even read about it, but not for 1 second did i think i would be standing there too. New York City 2005, watching the new year roll in from Time square.
just travel in time
Took a different approach for the photoshpcreative07 competition and decided to reverse the concept. Here a lone survivor condemned to a future of infinite chaos manages to escape back into a alternate past of infinite possibility. This could be a physical escape or projected from within the travellers mind; an internal escape to fantasy, much like the ending of Brazil. Have since sold the image for use on the cover of the Griffith Review – yay.
This guy was pretty cool, sitting there minding his own business, and I just had to get the shot. But as I lifted the camera and looked through the lens he just broke into this mean stare into the lens like he was gonna hurt me. I saw it and quickly pressed the shutter. Later I complimented him on his tattoos and showed him the shot and it was then that his frown turned into a broad grin…phew!
This image came about in an awesome way for me. Two weeks earlier, the model, Margrit, was telling me a bit about her life. She’s lived and travelled in many countries and taken lots of opportunities. She has also achieved great success with her photography. Several weeks later, I had an unusual chance to photograph her in an old train – the perfect location to reflect her life’s journey. / In Australia, Margrit has achieved her LAPS and AAPS, and is the only West Australian women to received international photographic honours AFIAP. She’s a perfectionist and it shines through in her work. Well I have just gotten back from a stint up the East coast on Sunday night, and of course had to stop in Byron Bay for what was supposed to be a night, but turned into 4. Took about a million photographs but only a few were Red Bubble worthy in my own estimation. Unfortunately for me, a very talented Lee Burgess has beaten me to the punch on the lighthouse by about 8 hours…Oh well, pays not to sit on piccies too long huh! For what its worth, this is my take…
Byron Bay, late afternoon, The Pass.
The symbolism of this image is deep. Man against nature, his arrogance even when dwarfed by the age and strength of nature. / This was taken in Arches National Park at Delicate Arch in the Fall of 2005. There are many photographs of Delicate Arch and I didn’t want to duplicate what had already been done. With a man dressed in a black suit, he appears in a unique vision of the famed Delicate Arch stepping out from another time and place.
Perpetual Time is meant to give the feeling that love conquers all. The stone is part of a wall in Edinburgh. Easter Road & Montrose Terrace area, I added this image of my niece. /

A pirate that didn’t like getting his picture taken. This image was shot on a domestic colour 35mm film and scanned using the Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED. It was taken before a group of costumed party goers left for a cruise on a boat called The Looking Good about 12 years ago. The trip set sail from North Warf in Melbourne but I think it’s called Docklands now.

It was founded in the year 1074 by Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg and is thus the oldest extant foundation in Styria. The Admont Benedictines attempt to live by the Rule of St. Benedict (“house rules” for a monastic community), which through its breadth and depth has achieved much of important over the centuries and indubitably offers orientation for the future. The rhythm of their life is stamped by prayer, the fulfilment of manifold tasks in pastoral care, education, culture and in social areas and through the personal deepening of their lives. In this God is always the central point. This is especially true of the life style of the Admont Benedictines whereby the church is seen as the centre of the foundation. In addition to serving 26 parishes, the Monastery runs a nursing home in Frauenberg, a secondary school and further businesses which have roughly 500 secular employees. The main cultural attraction of the Monastery is the Baroque library and the new large museum. Nearness to God and the faith that determines the life of the monks can be felt throughout the whole Monastery grounds. This is also true of the library and museum and equally for the gardens around our house. Thus Admont Monastery is a spiritual, cultural and economic centre of important far beyond the region.
The meaning behind the title is top secret only known to myself and Yoda.
