  • views: 1942 / favs: 54 My origami calendar I used tweezers to create the last few folds. The paper I folded with was about 15×15mm big. Basically I present the creator and the creation where the crane is framed by my fingers forming a circle. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny little specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. / / For a better idea of scale: / / / I did not make this crane and take the picture with the description in my mind; but created it by instinct. It wasn’t easy drawing out my words initially. However many viewers have left very inspiring comments about my work, and for that I am grateful. • There has been one sale of this image. In November 2008 this image was featured in the group, Buyers R Us. In February 2009, this image placed third in the U.S. Parks Wildlife Shots challenge hosted by the AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat group. A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. The white area beyond the tree line in the right hand side of the photograph is Yellowstone Lake. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. • A free-range baby orangutan sucking its thumb in Singapore Zoo, Singapore. This critically endangered species demonstrates significant intelligence, with an ability to reason and think. The orangutan is closest relatives, sharing 97% of the same DNA as humans. I’ve been to Borneo (Dec 2007) and was shocked at the amount of jungle cleared to make way for palm oil plantations. Close your eyes, and imagine flying into Sandakan on the east coast – as far as you can see there are rows upon rows of palm trees. Rows upon rows. Then more rows upon rows. Then more rows upon rows. “Orangutans are one of the most critically endangered of the great apes, due to poaching and habitat loss. Based on the World Bank’s estimation that mechanized logging in the Kalimantan forest, (Indonesian Borneo), will result in its total loss by 2010, and other statistics stating that wild orangutans are disappearing at a rate of 5,000 orangutans per year, optimistic predictions give the orangutan ten more years before extinction in the wild.” (Source: Borneo Orangutan Survival UK http://www.savetheorangutan.co.uk/index.php) Taken with Canon 5D, ISO 1250, f5.6, 1/50th sec, 100-400mm L Series Canon Lens @ 400mm, handheld, no flash, Auto white balance. No post production. Featured in Canon DSLR Group, Image Writing Group, Animal Portraits Group & All animals Great and small Group (May 2009). • D.I.Y. is one of ‘those’ skill sets. Either you can indeed do it yourself or you best get someone else to do it! MissT has always struggled with the practical self help stuff, just looking at a car engine results in the breaking a fingernail and getting covered in oil. Her one foray into carpentry turned into an voyage of discovery as she searched for a right angle and found only wrong angles and blisters. But our girl is plucky and never one to give up. Today she’s going to hang this lovely picture she bougth from RedBubble. See her prepare… / Steel toecapped high heels just in case… check! / Protective leopard print dressing gown… check! / Identify wall… check. / Practice swing with hammer… youch! text by the talented Andrew Walker model, the luscious MissT

  • Featured in Deer Me!!! – Aug 13th, 2009 Deer in Yellowstone. Waking up early always pays off in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. / West Thumb is among the most scenic of the park’s geyser basins but it’s also the smallest. For its size, however, West Thumb posseses a whole range of features including hot springs, pools, mud pots, fumaroles and geysers. Herds of elk, mule deer, even moose and bears frequent the area within easy observation distance. Canon XSi with 18-55mm lens, f/8, 1/640sec, ISO-200.
