  • from my 2008 Cemetery Collection – created in the Through the Viewfinder Style Using a lightblocking tube, I shot the square viewfinder of an old vintage argoflex 75 using my digital Olympus E330

  • I wanted to try something new, so I thought I’d give Through the Viewfinder photography a shot. Here’s my first attempt. What do you think? This piece was featured in TTV: Through the Viewfinder group and the Michigan Outdoors group. THANK YOU!!

  • Howard, RI water tower captured on a blustery New England “spring” day. Simple compositions work best for TtV. The sky was very gray, almost stormy, and the sun was about to set. Nikon D40 shot through a modified cereal box and then through the lens of a Carlton-Reflex camera. No photoshop other than the crop tool. Water Tower TtV #2 was featured on the Redbubble Home Page on January 18, 2009 and is featured in the group TTV: Through The Viewfinder. Also available as a t-shirt: / (c) Paul Lavallee 2008 /

  • This is a TtV image (Through the Viewfinder), using the alternative photographic technique of composing the image through an old twin reflex camera (argus75)and taking the picture with a digital camera and a macro lens’.

  • My first Twin Lens Reflex camera arrived today wOOt wOOt!! A lovely little 1940’s Kodak Brownie Reflex in beautiful condition. So what did I do? I proceed to pull it apart and then wrap 100mph tape and cardboard around it to create my light blocking contraption so I could start experimenting with TtV photography!! As you do ;) Sorry Great Aunt Gladys! I didn’t break it though, just removed a little bit ;) It is waaaaay more challenging than I thought it would be, and I think I may have developed an ebaying-for-tlr-cameras addiction in the last week but the results – when you get it right – are totally worth it, so all things considered I might stick with this for a bit ;)

  • TTV in pp Digital reflex camera / iso 100, f 8.0, 1/15 sec. 50 (75) mm. macro Thank you for your attention. • This shot of my old Praktica camera was taken with my dslr back up Samsung GX10 through my 60 year old vintage Kodak Brownie Reflex… Art imitating art imitating art? :) Gave the local beach walkers something to ponder over as they passed by anyways ;) More Through the Viewfinder (TtV) Images

  • Music kindly supplied by armadillozenith These are a few of the antique books I’ve come across rummaging around second hand stores. I have wanted to capture them properly, and what better way than with the viewfinder! History 101 is the inside pages of the red book at the bottom of this shot. Top 10 in History Challenge Tweaking of levels and curves in this one, and crop of original image to a square. See here for instructions on how to create this image. Canon 50D / 18 – 55, 58mm / Macro filter / f3.5, 1/4, ISO 1600 / Ansco Rediflex / Home Made Darkbox Edited 11pm MCN: CQL3S-4RC7E-D3RGQ More TTV work:

  • I took the viewfinder and my Canon down to the beach on Sunday to take some summer shots. This is one of the results from that day. The seagull flew into the shot and I didn’t notice it until I started processing this one. There was a feeling of closure and finality in this shot with the gull included. I really enjoy a bright sunny day with a few clouds scattered across the sky. Especially sitting down on the beach, really makes me feel like a kid again. Original shot cropped and layered once, with hue adjustment and a warming filter added. See here for instructions on how to create this image. Sold as a Matted Print Canon 50D / 18 – 55, 58mm / f7.1, 1/125, ISO 100 / Ansco Rediflex / Home Made Darkbox Edited and uploaded 11.40pm MCN: CARV8-GNWGE-4DT9Y More TTV work:

  • I’ve used TTV textures on a couple of my works, but decided I’d much prefer to try out some real TTV shots. I won a Kodak Duaflex a couple of weeks ago on an E-bay auction, and finally made me a light-excluding contraption thingy yesterday, then finally got out to take some pictures with it today! This shot is the first of a few taken on Cromer Pier, Norfolk, UK. Canon EOS 450D, Sigma 50 mm 1:2.8 DG Macro lens and Kodak Duaflex. Digitally cross-processed using curves adjustments. Featured in TTV: Through the Viewfinder, November 2009. 159 views so far :)

  • I’m sure this composition has been done before, but I was just messing about, trying to get the bench in focus, when a man appeared in frame, standing at the opposite end of the bench. He made the shot more interesting for me! Canon EOS 450D, Sigma 50 mm 1:2.8 DG Macro lens and Kodak Duaflex. Digitally cross-processed using curves adjustments.

  • I can’t remember the exact time this old beast came into our family, but a few years ago, it just turned up, much to the disgust and surprise of all of us! My step-dad brought this old Kingswood home. It barely ever gets used, hasn’t been reconditioned or restored and basically just sits in the driveway, or on the front lawn, begging to be sent to the wreckers yards. It is good for something though.. TTV :) This was four individual shots that I have placed together as a collage, desaturated the first later, added a second, and also desaturated. Added several filters and played around with the colour balance before flattening. Further tweaking of levels, curves, brightness, contrast and colour balance.
