Hey again peoples! It’s been quiet on the Bub for me as I have been redeveloping my style and design work. I have headed back in the direction of the pen – and the amazing paper. Yep. I know. DEEP. But really what I have been going back to is my style of drawing. Naturally I don’t like to draw sketchy lines and then re-draw over them again, instead, i like to draw the FINISHED solid lines in one shot. This may sound like an unreachable goal, but that is why my subject matter is so important. For me to create an image without re-drawing over the same lines, I have to be drawing something that is from my imagination. I usually drawn a curve on the page and let it go from there. it may end up being an eye, a leg, hair who knows! But in most cases it will be a monster of some kind, as there are no rules to monsters! I think the best example of my direction is MAMBO clothing. / Drawing a bowl of fruit on the table in front of me is just not possible as I would have to do a basic sketch first to get the correct shapes, and then go over it a few times to perfect the lines. Urgh, not my idea of fun. So, with help from this nifty little program called Photoshop (have you heard of it? lol) I have been able to draw the way I want (one shot solid lines) and then put them into photoshop 9and also Illustrator) and clean up the lines. Yes, I do re-draw the lines with the Pen Tool, but as this is non destructive, i consider it to be a simple and fun task. My first image with this process of drawing has now been added to threadless for voting (heres hoping) and I am extremely happy with the results. My inspiration is the talented folk over at Emptees.com and all their goo, bones, skulls and zombie designs – cool. i will definitely have a lot more goo in my designs..you can thank JUMPY for this! LEGEND! So here is the design, drawn without the ‘sketchy-ness’ that I refer to - Now here it is vectored of course – Now remember, this was drawn once on paper with no sketchy-ness, and then drawn again with the Pen Tool – its like a simple 2 step process for me. Ah. Love. You will notice a few characters missing, and also you should notice the change in emotion – they are now all angry! lol, I thought that would be better. So I will be doing more like this, drawing on paper first and then vectoring them, just like I will do with this one in some time in the future…sneak peek… ok guys, keep in touch! As some of you may know I am moving to melbourne in Dec so my design work will slow for a while over that break until i get the net…urgh…might be ages…and I can’t survive without the net…but Im just glad Im still chasing dreams. Long live GO GETTERS. peace and love, Diesel

Once again I have been drawing free hand and smashing the designs out – and this one is no different! I posted this at threadless because I think it has a chance to get printed, but it needs your votes! If you like it, vote for it “here – EDIT: VOTING ENDED. Thank you to everyone so far for supporting my work. I will be absent from the uploading section for about a month shortly due to my exciting relocation to melbourne, but I will resume very soon. Also, as our music is getting some club play and also being released soon via Balcony Records I will be focusing heavily on that front and the designing will sit back a little bit. I will also be learning more about DJ-ing so I can spin it at local clubs etc. Speak to you all soon! – P.s. dont forget to vote!

If, like me you’re trying to improve all the time (not always succeeding :) ) and get some exposure and success sales-wise then you may want to check out the following sites for inspiration and also ways to direct people to your portfolio on RB: Competitions and other places to submit (some of which mentioned by various people in forums and journals) – in no particular order: Design by Humans – a well regarded ‘vote to print’ site – also has some good resources like ‘realistic’ templates to use for ‘model’ images. Tee invaders – A new competition site (haven’t checked it out yet) KingStrike – A slightly different concept – People buy the rights to your design for printing Threadless – No news here – everyone knows about Threadless. As I found it’s not easy to get into!! – lots of competition. It’s a community of sorts like RB, and You can add your own blog feed in your Threadless profile (so you can point it to your own blog, or your works on RB) – submission kit also has resources for ‘model’ images Shirt.w00t – another rolling competition with different challenges TeeFury – one a day – vote etc Teextile – This is brand new, and is another ‘one a day’ site. May be a good time to get something in there… Caponocca – Another competition site – $2500 for printed shirts 6 dollar shirts – Currently accepting submissions (2 colour designs) Mysoti – A fairly new POD (print on demand) site similar (in some ways) to RB, but without the community. Don’t know about the quality but the I’ve sold a couple there. Full Metal Shirt – Another competition site… Uneetee – Another US-based vote and print site Emptees – An aggregator, community and blog for your own and other’s designs Rumplo – another aggregator of other people’s designs. Unfortunately they don’t accept design suggestions from RB, but if you do a little digging you might find a way… StumbleUpon – Social bookmarking – Add your bubblesite, your blog etc – some people have reported success from this. Feedburner – Syndicate and publicise your ‘feeds’. This could be your blog, your works on RB, or pretty much anything. Feedburner allows you to get stats on the feeds, publish them elsewhere, and also create all sorts of widgets for subscribing etc. I’ve started putting the ‘stay in touch’ section in my posts to see how it goes… (might post more detail on this as it’s a bit more technical) I love your t-shirt – a sort of blog but also a place to submit designs to get seen A better tomorrow – a German design competition site Spring Leap – Another competition site (haven’t really looked yet) ModernTee – Another competition site ($250 per design) oh yeah – Zazzle and Cafepress if you want to sell mouse mats ;) FFFFound – Image bookmarking blogs that you may want to look at to find the sites yourself Competeetion – This is a great place to find out about other sites and competitions going on around the web. Hide your arms – A pretty good T blog – with the most useful post about basically every other T shirt blog. (that saves me writing the rest out under here!) TCritic – Another blog – not very frequent Fashionably geek – Clothing and accessories for the ‘well-dressed geek’ The Fresh Stock – Street wear and art TeeBurb – Tee designer community, blog – integrates with Twitter Teecraze – Nice simple syndication blog RB Tee Designers Sites / Blogs Redbubble home pages – find the historical home pages here Grandia Design – Clothing and interviews with fellow RB’ers (including ME) from the excellent Grandia Design Redbubble Twitter Twibe Bubbling under the surface – Unofficial RB Blog Diesel Laws – The mightly Diesel, now with a new full stop. Damien Mason – Web Design, Illustration, Animation and Monkeys WebGrrl – Not just T-Shirts… mtths – Such cool stuff – with success on Threadless too! JemimaLovesBigTed – JLBT on Tumblr Cathie Tranent – Cathie T on Tumblr Paul McClintock – Pauk on Tumblr Other Resources Free images – Places to find images on the web – useful for that inspiration or starting point for a design. How to find images – Another good wrap up of places to source images Typographic Posters – This is a great resource for all sorts of inspiration Smashing Magazine – A fantastic resource for design, print and web. Subscribe and get inspired on a very regular basis TypeNow – Free Fonts from A-Z. Lots of stuff for your ‘parody’ Tees :) FontSpace – 1000+ free fonts Anyone know of any more that would be of interest to RB T designers? – reply in the comments. Experimental Jetset, we love you.
The truth hurts, but people need to know it. Even if you’re being (slightly) immature about it. No-one reads your stupid tweets. This design is my take on the latest sexy offerings from Threadless
No-one reads your stupid tweets.
Please also see: High Res Version here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rowena/3645572911/sizes/l/ There are 4 tiny fish and 3 tiny shells on the design :) The idea behind the design: The wave is sweeping over a sandcastle, as the child imagines it. The child is blue to reflect the water element (he’s destroying the castle on his side). The wave looks like hands to relate to the hand of the child. The rider adds a humorous element whilst also supporting the imagination of the child. This design is also up for a t-shirt submission on Threadless. If you like it, maybe head over to vote/ comment? http://www.threadless.com/submission/217715/Castles_of_Sand News – I bought this as a card and due to the poor colour-matching of Red Bubble, i am taking it down from a purchasable piece of art. I am so unimpressed with RB about this…. >:(
The bird knows what he’s talking about.
A big thanks to everyone who commented on this whilst it was being designed. This was the first version. Rubyred suggested I upload it here as it bears little resemblance to the final result which is now up for voting at threadless. You can see the full story here. or If your signed up over at Threadless – can you place a vote ??
