This longhorn beetle seemed to want its photo taken. I found it next to my camera bag as I was about to leave. So I put on the close-up adapter and I think the beetle caught site of something in the reflection in the lens - perhaps its own image, or maybe the sun, colours refracted purple in the lens coating. Or it may have been responding to the sound of the shutter - or a combination of these! The beetle walked over to this upright leaf, and started very deliberately to climb to the top, where it perched and performed for me by flapping its wings rhythmically, open-shut-open—shut two or three times a second, like a clockwork toy! After it fell off the leaf, it repeated the exercise, then flew away. This was the first set of pictures I took which informed me that I could make a photograph that was not merely beautiful, but showed something more of the world than what we can see with our eyes. :) Very exciting!
Fractal created with Chaoscope. / Visit my Journal Article that explains this series, plus has links to the other fractal images in the series. This reminds me of the “Rib Cage” that you drive through on Melbourne’s City-Link freeway. / Cheers, Keith
I settled down as much as possible and waited for my subject to settle down as well. This is a fun picture for me because of the post picture study of the wasp that is possible. What is the blue part between it’s abdomen and thorax? /
Close up of a house spider with a red body
An interestingly coloured spider on it’s web. Spiders are air-breathing chelicerate arthropods that have two body segments, eight legs, and no chewing mouth parts. About 40, 000 species have been identified. Location: South Africa.
