“Hows the serenity?” / (He loved the serenity of the place.) / ”...So much serenity.” / ( I think he also just loved the word. ) / – The Castle / Serenity by Shane Smart. Baudin Beach. / Kangaroo Island, South Australia.
The subject of Secrets of Paradise… is the guide of the soul who in Jungian terms is called the anima. She is the angel, the heroine, the goddess who shines through the psychological darkness like a bright sky beckoning the beholder to follow their dream, risk the passage, and at all costs continue the quest. The adorning Peacock feather is symbolic of royalty and potency. In alchemy the peacock is cousin to the Phoenix, the mythical bird who rises from the ashes. The central theme of the image is the feminine eye, focused, a visionary awareness that resides in the human psyche; the third eye. Photography based mixed medium processed image.
FOUR HUNDRED VIEWS ~ THANK YOU / FEATURED ON REDBUBBLE HOME PAGE From the Third Man to the Ragman / The Third Man film celebrates it’s 60th anniversary this year (1949 ~ 2009) Orson Welles in post-war Vienna Carol Reed director of The Third Man, I will always associate as the male director with a female name directing the leading character Holly Martins another strong impressive male with a female name. However what legacy is left with me is his dramatic lighting and film sets, which gave introduce the monochrome’s twin towers ~ light and shade, and shape and form in combination and fusion for intensity and impact, something which is not lost on my own work. Same place as Emergence & Nirvana. Lightsmith issued a challenge to try and come up with 4 photographs of the same area but to make them look different. I’ve decided to take him up on the challenge. Hopefully I’m going OK so far…

Another shot of my buddha statue. Shot in black and white, this is essentially straight out of my camera. I only did a slight levels adjustment. I just love the serenity of a buddha’s face which is probably why I keep focusing on them. Medium: Acrylic Paint on Acrylic Paper / Size: 12” x 16” / Description: Based on the fifth song from the Tool album 10,000 Days, The Pot was completed in 2009 and was an attempt at a more surrealistic style. In this painting, I wanted to infuse a sense of wonder and mystery to a surrealistic style. I also wanted to capture that magical element that is so apparent in Tool’s music. I didn’t base my painting on the band’s meaning of the song as I had portrayed it (inadvertently) in another piece. Set in a desert, a man encounters a giant pot that has no explanation as to why it is there. Suddenly, a fleshy eye opens and stares intently at the man. The man stares back. The Pot doesn’t blink. The man forgets to drink water. The Pot is indefatigable. The man soon dies. The Pot closes it’s large eye and continues to hide it’s mysteries. This is my interpretation of the “Third Sorrow” of Ted Hughes “Seven Sorrows of Autumn”, which on the surface appears to be a sad poem but I think it’s really a paean to autumn....see the Fourth Sorrow below Watercolour on Watercolour on DrawMaster Paper The first sorrow of autumn / Is the slow goodbye / Of the garden who stands so long in the evening- / A brown poppy head, / The stalk of a lily, / And still cannot go. The second sorrow / Is the empty feet / Of a pheasant who hangs from a hook with his brothers. / The woodland of gold / Is folded in feathers / With its head in a bag. And the third sorrow / Is the slow goodbye / Of the sun who has gathered the birds and who gathers / The minutes of evening, / The golden and holy / Ground of the picture. The fourth sorrow / Is the pond gone black / Ruined and sunken the city of water- / The beetle’s palace, / The catacombs / Of the dragonfly. And the fifth sorrow / Is the slow goodbye / Of the woodland that quietly breaks up its camp. / One day it’s gone. / It has only left litter- / Firewood, tentpoles. And the sixth sorrow / Is the fox’s sorrow / The joy of the huntsman, the joy of the hounds, / The hooves that pound / Till earth closes her ear / To the fox’s prayer. And the seventh sorrow / Is the slow goodbye / Of the face with its wrinkles that looks through the window / As the year packs up / Like a tatty fairground / That came for the children....Ted Hughes / The Fourth Sorrow
