Ok.. just for Dave.. and anyone who is interested ! This is an old work from the 80’s. I’ve had a not very good photograph lying around for a while but only recently worked out how to make the most of it using PS. Its still not very good but its about as good as I can make it. I was inspired after visiting the extraordinary artist Theo Major, who created an extraordinary metaphysical landscape based on the industrial landscape of greater Manchester. I’ve always thought that the northern English landscape is a cool metallic blue. I can never understand it when I see sepia and browns used to depict this part of the world because the climate is cool and I see blue. I took this photograph recently and feel it sort of proves the point. / Anglezarke Its primarily oil paint but I also drew into it using oil pastel. I’m not surprised Angel likes it.. because it is based loosely on the Manchester skyline…around the now fashionable Castlefield area, this was in the dark days of the 80’s before people started to live in cities again. Cities after dark where largely empty dangerous places. Not many people like it but I’ve always had a fondness for it. / Thank you for asking.
A work from the 80’s inspired by Theo Major the Wigan artist. The landscape he lived in, in his early years was quite extraordinary, centuries of coal mining had left areas sunken and filled with water.. they call these Lakes “flashes” because the light reflects off them. In other places there were the legendary Wigan Alps grey lifeless mountains of coal waste.. and his work captured this hell fire landscape and was just as extraordinary. These days the Lakes are nature reserves and the Alps are all grassed over. Here is a gallery of his work for anyone interested. It was pointed out to me that there is rather spooky face in my picture. Just for Dave. Its an oil painting.. with some digital cleaning up.

The first time I ever saw Mr Theo ten Brummelaar, it was just after the mid-fifties. It was in the Sutherland Shire and he was on the stage, with Eef ten Brummelaar, performing a cabaret-sketch. / I was 12, going on 13. / / In the sixties I captured him at a Dutch clubs get-together, beside a soccer field. / / (Cannot find that picture but I shall!) / In the late seventies we were among the first broadcasters, via SBS Radio 2EA, the Dutch language program. / / Today, I captured him, wearing his two hats, namely that of Hon. / / Treasurer of the D.A.C.C. and speaking on behalf of the Federation of Netherlands Societies, as its Chairperson. / / Feels like a lot of water under the bridge!! / / .. / MORE HERE

Though I am often in the depths of misery, there is still calmness, pure harmony and music inside me. I see paintings or drawings in the poorest cottages, in the dirtiest corners. And my mind is driven towards these things with an irresistible momentum. Vincent van Gogh / 21 July 1882 – Letter to Theo who Vincent loved so much.
