Atlanta’s landmark theater, the Fox on Peachtree Street takes center stage in this original photo of this Atlanta Icon. Vivid blues and reds make this one an eye catcher. Part of a series of Atlanta Icons I’m working on…

This is the historical State Theater in Plant City, Florida. According to one of the locals, it was built in 1939. It was used a theater until the early 60’s, at the moment it’s an empty building waiting for a new tenant (would be a cool place to have a gallery). It’s previous owner used it as an Emporium. Update. State Theater is now featured in the Florida Group / Feb 2009
Everytime I see these old time Theaters I want to own one. I think they should be preserved, restored and changed back to the old plush red carpet movie theaters that I recalled ‘briefly’ as a kid. This was taken in Paris, France. I figured it was worth a photo because it will likely turn into a STARBUCKS or some eyeglass fashion shop one day (hopefully NOT). :(

Build in the rather bold art deco style, the Esquire Theatre is located at 1219 K Street in Sacramento, California. Just a block from the State Capitol Building, the structure is ALSO claimed to be haunted by ghosts. Grace, a small girl entity, along with a small boy that rides a tricycle haunt this theater if you are to believe the stories. ;-) The third ghost story resonates a bit more closely to me. A fellow musician was murdered just outside the theatre by robbers who wanted his money after a gig. There are Sacramento musicians who firmly believe Jim Pantages never left the site of the crime against him. Building began in 1938 and was finished in 1940. If you look carefully (with yours eyes if you’re not colourblind and your computer if you are), you can tell where some of the original neon lighting was replaced with modern replacements and the colour don’t all match perfectly. This piece was featured in Northern California Style with my humble thanks. :-) A big treat for me was bestowed upon me by the “Anything Theatrical” group: this piece was featured along with the one of the Crest Theatre simultaneously, a first for me! Thank you all in “Anything Theatrical”, both staff and members! :-)
AN ARENA, OR A STADIUM, OR A THEATER ARE BUILDINGS THAT EXIST FOR ONE REASON ONLY: FOR LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE TO HAVE FUN IN. / TO ME THERE ARE FEW THINGS SADDER THAN ONE OF THOSE BUILDINGS THAT HAS BEEN DESERTED BY THE PEOPLE IT EXISTED FOR. / THIS IS THE ABANDONED HOME OF THE FOSTORIA FOOTLIGHTERS, A NOW DEFUNCT COMMUNITY THEATER GROUP IN NORTHWEST OHIO. THE BUILDING SITS DERELICT AND, PERHAPS, DEJECTED…AWAITING AN OPENNING NIGHT THAT WILL NEVER COME. /

Downtown Detroit was once the entertainment center for a busy metropolis. Grand Circus Park was a hub for the once-thriving thriving entertainment industry and had a magnificent theater that shared the Grand Circus name. Now, Grand Circus Park is just another seldom used stop along the People Mover circuit and the Grand Circus Theater’s dangling marquee serves as an illustration of the narcolepsy that envelopes this once vital downtown. There is an ongoing effort to preserve some of the theaters. The Fox Theater is the only Detroit venue that has been renovated so far and is not viewable from DPM. The unique Art Deco terra cotta facade of National Burlesque has graced Detroit since 1911 and has the next best chance of survival.
I took a panoramic shot of this same theater on December 26, 2008. I thought at that time that wet pavement might add a nice touch. I had to wait from then to now for a decent nighttime rain (this being the desert, and all). This looked fine as is, but I threw a few buckets of saturation and vibrance on it and it soaked them up like a champ, so here is the high sat version.
