  • An edit of a photo i took at Cape Otway Lighthouse just of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road in Australia a few months ago on the 28th of February 2008. HDR’d in Photomatix from one RAW file . Found a pic of some birds i took at Elwood Beach a while ago and added them in Photoshop. Some tweaking was also done in Lightroom including the black and white conversion and above is the end result. The Lighthouse is just one of many beautiful attractions in the Great Otway National Park. CAPE Otway Lightstation is the oldest, surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. The light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. • Perhaps there is nothing more breathtaking and awe inspiring in all of North America than Alaska’s majestic Denali with its seven summits. Mt McKinley, another name for Denali, rises 20,320 feet (6,194 m) above sea level, and has 5 large glaciers flowing from it. Denali means “the high one” in the Athabaskan language, but the term Denali is also the name of the National Park in which Denali rises up. This photo was taken on an unusually clear winter day during a ride on the Aurora Train, a day trip running through the Alaskan wilderness between Fairbanks and Anchorage.

  • This old horse drawn timber tram above Triplet Falls, still stands on the site of / Knotts No 1 Mill / The area surrounding Triplet Falls was once / home to Knotts No 1 sawmill. This mill was one / of the largest of the many timber mills that began / operation after the Colac-Beech Forest-Crowes / railway opened up the rugged and remote west / Otways in 1902. / The mill started in 1908 and was operated from / 1909, by a Melbourne timber merchant, G.W. / Knott. He sold it to the War Service Homes / Commission in 1920. / The mill processed over 3,600 tons of Mountain / Ash per year producing timber for the homes of / servicemen returning from World War One. / Now that the forest has reclaimed the site it is / hard to imagine the industry that was sustained / here for more than 20 years. Pentax istDS Camera. Three exposures bracketed to create an HDR image.

  • Feature Image – Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams Group For three days we bore witness to this majesty. Denali – Mt McKinley. On arrival the clouds began to lift and then next morning I pulled myself out of bed very early to see if by chance it was putting on a show. I raced down to a vantage point and was alone with this view until the shadows diminished and day began. On the third day the clouds returned and this view became a complete white out! / We were privileged. Nikon D40x / Nikkor 18-55mm lens From a day with Denali National Park Alaska June ‘08

  • This is Denali, also known as Mt. McKinley, taken by my mate-for-life, Howard Marsh, in 2003. Denali is within Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, some six million acres of wild land with one ribbon of road. Most visitors travel by old, old hard-seat school buses, or ride bicycles or hike. That road is closed to vehicles in order to prevent the effects of too much carbon monoxide, too many people, too much risk to the wildlife. Even air traffic is moderately restricted, although some say not enough restrictions are in place to preserve the peace and quiet. Once a year in the fall, the road opens to a select number of lottery winners. I had done some technical editing and layout work for Denali National Park that year, and was given a vehicle pass. A rare gift. Denali is considered the crowning jewel of the park as North America’s highest peak – an awe-inspiring, 20,320 foot wonder. Mountains and Mountain Light featured – Thank you! • The Great One by Dave Hampton – Denali National Park, Alaska / This is one of my happy places on this third rock from the sun. I highly recommend spending some time in Denali National Park. Especially in the fall time. Mount McKinley or Denali, if you are a local, is the highest mountain peak in North America, at a height of approximately 20,320 feet (6,194 m). It actually creates it’s own weather. If you notice the small wisp of cloud in front of it. About four hours after this photo was taken that small wisp had engulfed the whole mountain. You don’t get to see this clear of weather very often. I wish I could share my 6×17 stuff on red bubble. I have some great panoramic shots of the whole Alaska Range. / / GREAT ONE WAS FEATURED IN: Seasonal ‘Scapes / . / . / . /
