2.14pm – Wednesday afternoon The keys on this plastic alphabet are sticky. The seat has no back and the minutes are expensive. The sub audible hum of ten thousand anxious people reverberate through the terminal floor. The timeless neon glow of Gates 31-40, Baggage Claim, Toilets and a Foodcourt burn into my pores. A voice informs me that Mr Nigel Sankey should really hurry along to Gate 36, because all the people already wedged onto the plane are getting seriously annoyed. In another life our original flight had not suffered the generic ‘engineering difficulties’ and we were already home, but in this life we were destined to spend half a day in Sydney airport at an internet cafe, so still in this life I wrench the keyboard from a neighbouring computer and walk resolutely towards the mannequins at the Virgin Service Desk, a blank look in my eye. / How did it come to this? 7.55am – Earlier that same day El Presidente and I burst into the breakfast room of the Shangri La hotel in Sydney, where NetGuide are holding the ceremony of their yearly internet awards. The room goes slightly quiet, the dog in the corner ceases playing the piano, and the 100% suited and booted occupants turn to look at these last minute arrivals, one in a vibrant red limited edition RedBubble tee, the other in a faux-Napoleonic military jacket. I wave my cane in the direction of some empty seats and we take our place between the MD of eBay and a man from the Bureau of Meteorology. A general air that we may be ‘chancers’ prevails. The ceremony begins, and decorum is held in fine corporate silence, broken by an intermittent golf clap as another nervous individual waddles up to claim their glass shard. The 14th prize is for Best New Site, and it is won by a company called Web Menu, but also has a Highly Commended Category, which RedBubble wins. None of the other categories really have second place awards, and so we still appear like we are here for the free breakfast. The final two awards, however, are a little more prestigious, and they begin with the ‘People’s Choice’ which NetGuide are very proud of, and after building it up to unprecendented heights they announce that RedBubble has conquered it without question. You can hear the room inhale in unison, then vigourously clap. Afterwards everyone was very friendly, coming over to congratulate and talk details, I was even accosted by one man in the gents but I requested he wait until I finish, I think he had something to do with the ceremony. We hand out some t-shirts and greetings cards and even some bubbles, which could be seen floating around the room towards the end of the event. 9.45am After a suitably cheesy photoshoot, we jump into a taxi and head for the airport and hopefully, a quick flight home. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— I’d just like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the whole team, to thank all of you, and not just all of you who managed to read this whole post, or even all of you who voted for us, but ALL of you. Because you really do make this site as vibrant as it is, without you we’re nothing, well, not nothing, we’d be a bunch of nerds in a room with some flashy computers and an endless biscuit supply, but I don’t think there’s an award for that. / So thanks and don’t stop now, we’re just getting warmed up. onetonshadow, and everybody else Oh and big up to NetGuide for the whole event, bacon and free mousemats, here’s what they have to say about it Addendum / I’d also like to thank the mighty Anne van Alkemade for stumbling across the competition in the first place and alerting our eager community. May your days be filled with fine wines and tasty cakes.

Schlegeis reservoir, or artificial lake, lies in south west Austria. The mountains in the skyline are actually in Italy. On that day we hiked past this lake to the Italian border, some 15 kilometers. Reaching Italy, we quenched our thirst on some Italian beer and walked back. Nikon D50 / Nikkor 18-79 f/3.5-4.5G / Aperture: f/9.0 / Shutter: 1/250 sec / Focal Length: 24mm / ISO: 200 / . /
As I originally only had a small piece of sky when I was fiddling with the extract tool, I have now redone this picture, using a bigger and new piece of sky! This is the original version FEATURED HOMEPAGE 04.11.08 / This would make a lovely card for any equestrian loving person, be it, Birthday, Thank You, any occasion….... OMG the very talented RACHEL LEIGH has nominated JUST BOOTS for the Pay it Forward Group She said ” “I love this photo because I know how difficult it is to get good pet shots and the lighting is just superb in this photo. Boots is as cute as can be and she captured him beautifully!” To me this is the highest compliment, thanking you so very much Rachel :O)) Waiting patiently for his morning walk…... Boots our dearest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has the unfortunate name, as being black and tan he has golden lower legs. He was born during the rugby world cup when England actually won something and as his breeder was a rugby fan she called him Golden Boots, after Johny Wilkinson! Started photography May 2008 Sold laminated print RB 23/03/09 BILLYBOY gave the most wonderful compliment when choosing Just Boots. I’m actually kind of glad this is in the Paws & Claws group because now that I’ve been given the opportunity to choose a picture from the group to single out, it’s fitting that my favorite pet picture of all time is right here so I can tell the world just how deeply I love it… / There are so many ways this works for me. The depth of field and selective blur draws attention to the perfect focusing on and around that amazing face, and I like the way the crop being slightly off center works so perfectly with the drape of the ears and the shape of the body. / The lighting is perfect and so natural… no blown out highlights or loss of shadow detail… the quality and direction of the lighting bring out that amazing detail in the facial fur and allows for that subtle reflection on the contrasting smooth surface into which he seems to be slowly melting. Also, the color space of the background matches the subject so perfectly that it’s a pleasing image to the eye even without taking the artistic level of the content into consideration. But I think what REALLY gets to me about this amazing shot is the affect the shooting angle has on drawing me into this pooch’s character. We’re down at his level, as if on equal terms with his world, and I feel as if I’m staring straight into his soul through those deep and all-knowing eyes… the connection between me and Boots is personal through this stunning image. This is a massive work of art and I am honored to be able to exaplin why it’s so special to me. Thanking you so very much Billy, it is such a wonderful compliment. xx Taken with my Sony F717, 800 ISO equiv. Lighting courtesy of my daughter holding a torch as there wasn’t enough natural light! Changed partially to sepia, then bluring and darker tones added for mood…..... Would make a super card ideal for any occasion, Birthday, Thank You, etc…. © Copyright 2008 Squealia, All Rights Reserved /

Glorious daffodils on a lovely spring day at Cox Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio. This was entered in a song challenge last year on another website and when I was considering what to enter, I saw this photo and the song from the musical “West Side Story” immediately came to mind. I liked it so much, I kept the title. This is one of my favorite images. Canon A720 IS / f/4 / 1/125 sec. / April 2008 / minor cropping and slight sharpening © Rachel Stickney 2008 / ~~ / Narcissus is the botanic name for a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbs in the Amaryllis family native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia. There are also several Narcissus species that bloom in the autumn. Daffodil is a common English name, sometimes used now for all varieties, and is the chief common name of horticultural prevalence used by the American Daffodil Society. The range of forms in cultivation has been heavily modified and extended, with new variations available from specialists almost every year. All Narcissus species have a central trumpet-, bowl-, or disc-shaped corona surrounded by a ring of six floral leaves called the perianth which is united into a tube at the forward edge of the 3-locular ovary. The seeds are black, round and swollen with hard coat. The three outer segments are sepals, and the three inner segments are petals. Though the traditional daffodil of folklore, poetry, and field may have a yellow to golden-yellow color all over, both in the wild species and due to breeding, the perianth and corona may be variously colored. Breeders have developed some daffodils with double, triple, or ambiguously multiple rows and layers of segments, and several wild species also have known double variants. Several months ago I was commissioned to do another cover for Conscious Living magazine here in Australia. The theme was to focus on “wild” and in particular….HORSES! / My first thoughts turned to a good friend and talented photographer here on Redbubble – Gene Praag who regularly captures amazing images of the wild horses in his home state of Utah. / And so I asked this fellow bubbler would he be able to help me with REAL wild horse images to work with, as opposed to me taking shots of local domestic horses and pretending they were “wild”. / From this collaboration I generated several pieces of art, and had loads of fun, and I have to say, both Gene and I were surprised at the magazine’s final choice of one of the less artistic images for their cover this issue….. (and yes, before anyone comments, I reckon Equus is spelled differently…lol) so I decided to share with you, one of the other images created from our joint efforts. SO thank you most sincerely to Gene for his generosity and kindness and for being so helpful in this project…... if you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to check out his amazing portfolio of images featuring the wild horses of the USA captured in their natural habitat, and being …... wild and free….. along with many other beautiful landscapes and subjects….. Thanks so very much Geno! You are a legend!
wow….yes celebrate with me!! / It indeed has been a joyful year since I joined RedBubble!!! / It all started accidentally when I saw some beautiful sunset / photographs on a different site by Bamagirl… (thanks Bonita!!) From there on, I posted abstract works, simple photo-manipulations, mixed media (computer art plus acrylic and pastel paints) and a handful of photographs….(wasn’t really serious selling art on line at that time…or anything like spending precious hours doin digital art which I thought nobody would even care to take notice of……HA! I was wrong….VERY WRONG!! ) The likes of Helene Ruiz, Gili Orr, Nancy Chambers, Erhan, bamagirl, Tracey Mac and Mel Brackstone had encouraged me to join groups to get noticed… I received a lot of encouraging words from Danilo Lejardi, amorspainter, realpainter, Angel Warda, Chris Willis and Kai Marie Williams to go on with my heART!! Got my big break when two wonderful angels, Linaji and Terilee really noticed my talents as an digital abstract artist and poet that landed me as one of ADAWG’s featured artists. I wont forget friends like Martin Muir, Kreesor, Loreto Bautista, Liesbeth, Sally Omar, Jerry Alcantara, Ravensoul, Loisgreen, Amber Elizabeth, Heather Rivet, Rosa Cobos, Aspectsoftmk, Blamo, Red Addiction, Trena, Jennyfnf, DawnDavies, Valzart, Pat More,Judi Tailor, LisaG, lucindawind, jewelskings,Patricia Anne Mcarthy, CJ Lewis, TKrosevear, David Parkin, Michael Beers, Agness Mcguiness,Shelly Heibert, Irene Burdell, Jo Hoden, Artist4peace, Rosemaree, Isa Rodriguez, Doreen Phillips, GerryMac, Butchart, Susan Bergstrom, Lior Goldenberg, Joak, Christopher Birthwisle-Smith, Robin Monroe….and a hell lot more….for healing words when I was really down…and who really went out of their way sending me b-mails and personal e-mails…. Sorry, if I failed to mention some friends here….you all know who you are…please don’t get hurt, b-mail me and I’ll mention you…THANK YOU!! It also was and still is a great pleasure to be featured along side awesome artists like toastedghost, Randy Monteith, Cliff Vestigaard, Julie Langford, Shanina Conway, Mimi Yoon, frogster and Dale Crum Now, I’ve grown and matured digitally from making simple photo-manipulations to complicated ones as through the inspiration that RB has openly allowed me to….both as a person and an artist! I have had a lot of happy RB buyers like Dave Law, Tiamaria, ZeeZee, Sunshine0,liesbeth, AlexMac, DanaMS, Jansnow, Trena, Tammy Rosevear, David Parkin, Nancy Chambers, Susan Bergstrom, Lisa Hewitt, Romo,Angel Warda, Sylvia Tax and Mekea, who have had their faces or family members “manipulated to smitherins” by me…. Like to share this pleasure with new found friends like Shoiab, Junior Mclean, Taschja Hattigh, and maxoperandi and to ALL the new peepz in my watchlists The awesome support in my following groups…AMAZING GRAVES , Enchanting and Powerful Photo Manipulation , The Love of Eerie and Enchanting Artworks has likewise been stupendous!! Being here, has given me a different perspective in life…..gaining true friends….improving my heART and making this world a better place to live, well at least in my own artistic little way!! Once again THANK YOU RB community of FRIENDS!!!
