  • A trace of my travel photos

  • The King of Thailand recently started a new fashion trend because the royal astronomers had said that pink was the most auspicious colour for good health, so after leaving hospital for an operation he was wearing a pastel pink sports coat. Now everyone in Thailand is into pinks and pastel colours. Hooray for King Bhumipol! I hope he gets well soon.

  • I am still trying to come up with a simple character to draw. This is my latest. Her name is Puk Puk (after my daughter). I wanted something along the lines of the Japanese characters that are so popular, but with more of a Thai influence. Hence the traditional Thai “Gae” hair thing going on….sorta.

  • Takraw is a Thai sport. It’s alot like volleyball, except that you can’t use your hands. It’s pretty amazing to watch. They use these spinning over the head wheel kicks to spike the little rattan ball.

  • Just trying out another shirt for my Thai recipe / food page.

  • Design of a meditating Thai Buddha in varying shades of purple. For more great Buddha designs not available here please visit the Tipitaka Buddha store by clicking on the banner below. Tipitaka store also has a great variety of mugs, posters, business cards and more. /

  • I just got back from a few days in pattaya, Thailand. My my my!

  • Having been here for over 2 1/2 years, I was curious as to why I have never seen a Siamese cat here. I asked my wife about this, and she has no idea where they came from, or why people think they are from Siam (Thailand). Strange.

  • Here is the first idea I had for a sign for the bar. i wanted something simple, but with a little bit of a “pub” feel to it.

  • Namaste Thai Buddha

  • The Thailand tuk-tuk…king of speed and menace of the road.

  • This little guy is everywhere over here. There are all kinds of different designs of him, but they are all basically the same style. My wife wanted to see what we could do with the design.

  • Awww..isn’t that cute, he’s smiling. He’s a happy kitty. He likes you. You should pet him.

  • Teaching is a hoot most of the time. But more frequently than I would like, this is what I see. That vacant stare means I am moving the lesson along a bit to fast for them….. I think. The problem is, that if you ask them if they understand what you just said, they will always say yes. This is because they are hoping that if you think they got it, then you will stop with the serious school stuff. And then they can go back to coloring little pictures of countries they have never heard of, or drawings of their dream room. That seems to be what the rest of their education consists of. Not what I remember at all.

  • I bought a book. Yeah, scary but true. I need to learn more about Thai artwork, especially the artwork concerning Thai mythology, because it really is beautiful. So, I found a book by a Thai artist that teaches you how to draw several of the recurring characters in Thai mythology. Like Hanuman and the Garuda. It’s in Thai, so I can’t read it yet, but the diagrams for drawing are pretty straight forward. I just look at the examples to try and get the proportions close. I will try a few from the book, and then draw them in my own scenes and positions. I just want to see if there is any interest in them. I am not sure what these creatures are yet. I will ask my wife to translate that, and the book’s author’s name and add it later. *The pen name of author / artist of the book is Sawanya. They call them Sea Elephants too, or Kunchonwaree.

  • This is a head shot of Hanuman. He was the white monkey warrior, protector of the king, and all around trouble maker. There are many stories about his adventures in Thai mythology. He reminds me of the monkey king in the Chinese book “Journey to the west”. He seems to have been given the same mischievous attitude and disregard for authority. The stories are quite enjoyable. /

  • Sabbapapassa akaranam – Avoid Evil / Kusalassa upasampada – Do Good / Sacitta pariyodapanam – Purify the Mind / Etam Buddhana sananam – This is the teachings of all Buddhas Dhammapada – 183

  • There seems to be a lot of confusion, or just variations, on the name of the Goddess of mercy and compassion. This figure, or variations of it, come up under both she and Buddha. I just wanted it on a shirt because Bai Ling played her in the movie “The Lost Empire”. :) /

  • Buddha in the bushes.
