fORMaTiNG YOuR TeXt I havent been having too much fun gettin my text written in RB the way i am used to.. formatting that is.. ive had my text cancelled out like this when i put the ”-” symbol between letters – i try and remember not to do that again. Only just now i found another one.. So i thought to self, that i’d better write all these down here in the journal – for future reference : NEW PARAGRAPHS / Press ENTER twice and that will give you a new paragraph automatically. WHEN ON EACH END OF WORD/TEXT : / eg: * bold * (without spaces) symbol * = bolds / / symbol _ = italic symbol ^ = small upper / / symbol – = cancels you out! symbol ~ = makes text smaller / / symbol + = Underlines the text symbol * * * = makes a horizontal rule/line without the spaces / -found by KSERIPHYN_ TO MAKE TEXT CLICKABLE (INTO URL) Put quotation symbols ” ” on each side of the word/sentence you want to make into Links/Clickable and then a COLON (no spaces) straight after, plus the url ; http:// EXAMPLE (i’ve added spaces in between the symbols so that you can see the text – but NO SPACES ” This tip was found whilst reading PDUV’s journal ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/pduv/journal/show/4812 becomes : This tip was found whilst reading PDUV’s journal TO ADD GRAPHICS INTO YOUR JOURNAL / PLEASE DON’T PUT HUGE PIX, RESIZE/UTILIZE PLACES LIKE IMAGESHACK free image hosting EXAMPLE : (i’ve added spaces in between the symbols so that you can see the text – but NO SPACES) ! http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6817/formatingrbct6.gif ! becomes TIP : You can do save that gif cheat sheet if you want ;) ADDING GRAPHIC & MAKING IT CLICKABLE (LINKED) / for larger pics you want to show, its a good idea to post the Thumbnail size, / and making the graphic clickable to a larger size. To to that just add the :http://website.uwant.url right after the ending exclamation ! mark of the graphic link ! http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6817/formatingrbct6.th.gif !:http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=formatingrbct6.gif / becomes NEW! Adding an ALT equivalent to your image / so that when you hover mouse over the image you can read the title of image example (hover mouse over the button): / add the title of your image in a bracket, for example (IMAGE TITLE) in between the last letter of the image URL and the ending exclamation symbol. look at image below / HEADER TEXT (Large fonts) / add symbol # to each side of the word/sentence for header size font. / / but this seems to work only as header, meaning its gotta be the first sentence/text, like a header. i used it up to in the text that says “Formating Your Text” eg : # Is bigger better? # no spaces MAKING BULLET/LIST Make new/update CheatSheet soon done! New Cheatsheet added to bottom of this page and also in portfolio HERE symbol hAsh plus a space then text will make bullets / -found by KSERIPHYN_ / TEXT GENERATOR keong has found this link to TEXTISM a Text Generator that can help you further with formating style that RB uses. For anyone who uses Firefox and has Greasemonkey installed, Dave Pearson has created a script that replaces the existing hints on RedBubble with the cheatsheet (big thanks to Dave!!) NEW! / / / Embedded YouTube / I’VE made this into a Mousepad, click on image to see more! / updated cheatsheet (28 July 2007)

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here! A friend just told me about RedBubble so I thought I’d give it a try. So far so good, but only time will tell what sort of response my artwork will get. I plan to use this space to keep you up to date on what i’m currently working on and things i’ve just finished. Recently i’ve been playing with textile art and have just finished a small (20×25cm) piece that’s part collage – lots of strips of fabric all fused to a backing fabric and a huge amount of freemotion stitching over the top. I’ve been able to uses lots of metallic threads including gold and variagateds (they are still metallic but change colour every couple of inches), fluro’s and holographic foil threads. The design is a landscape – water, island and sunset with a lone tree made of calico, fused and then intensively stitched. I’ve also just tried some original paintings on ebay for the first time, but we’ll see how they go. From what I’ve seen so far and from looking at others completed listings artwork doesn’t get as many views let alone bidders as other things. Wish you could sell the originals through this site! Lastly i’ve just got my website up and running. It’s basic at the moment and needs to be refined to make it open quicker, I need to resize all the bits and pieces and add in newer artwork, prices etc. If you’re interested go have a look and check back to see the updates later! The URL is: www.eiloren.com.au Hope you all enjoy reading my journal and viewing my artwork! Neroli

This is for my own reference really. One of the best Textile cheat sheets I’ve seen, because it includes tables and image URLs, can be found here: TEXTILE CHEAT SHEET. I’ve also found out how to use special characters like the asterisk, just use the HTML equivalent. So to make ”*” appear, type in &+#+4+2+; without the ”+” signs in between. I had to include them, otherwise all you’d see would be another asterisk sign. HTML cheat sheet for special characters: SPECIAL CHARACTERS IN HTML. I hope this helps other Textile newbies. It was driving me crazy!

I’ve been very slack of late with uploading things, but have been really busy working on lots of textile art pieces and patterns. I’m doing an advanced machine embroidery course tomorrow and if you’re thinking patchwork with pale florals don’t!!! There are some really amazing things you can do now with textile art – i’ve just purchased a book of fusing synthetic fabric with a soldering iron, you can press hard with one and it cuts through several layers while sealing all the edges together a little as if they were laser cut, and as it fuses as it cuts you get a wonderful crisp edge that doesn’t fray. you can bond fabrics trapping others in between and even make marks by burning, use metal stencils and templates and basically use anything out of glass or metal as a pattern or shape for cutting or burning. I hope to do some very soon – have a wood burning tool being shipped in the mail, can’t wait! i’ve always loved all those translucent shimmery fabrics so now have some great uses for them! Time for another Greasemonkey hack. This one replaces the existing text formatting hint you get when making comments (the text that pops out when you click on the “Show text formatting help:” link below the comment box). Instead of the rather small bit of help you get webgrrl’s rather handy text formatting cheat sheet. See over here for more details.

webgrrl was kind enough to point out that my text formatting hints Greasemonkey hack was no longer working as well as it should so, this morning, I made a quick fix and released v0.2.

Please note that this hack is no longer needed because the new bubblemail system has a preview facility. Inspired by this thread (although it is a subject that has come up many times before) on the RedBubble forums I’ve created a Greasemonkey script to implement a very simple BubbleMail preview facility. It works by adding a preview button to your screen when you compose a new BubbleMail: When you press the button a preview of your BubbleMail will appear below the button: It’s not perfect. It has some issues. But it’s a start. See over here for more details about the script and to get a copy.

Following in the footsteps of Dave Pearson ( RB Profile Here ), I have produced my own Greasemonkey hack attempt. This script implements a visual Textile helper called markItUp on the RedBubble site, and places the helper above all textareas. Installation If you are interested in trying the script, you need to be running Firefox for starters, and you need to install the Greasemonkey addon . Once you have done this, you can fetch the Greasemonkey script from here . If you do try it, please be sure to notify me of any bugs you find. History 0.2 Now uses unpacked jQuery code for compatibility with FF2 / 0.1 First Release

As many of you already know, i made the *Unofficial RedBubble CheatSheet” over a year ago for my own reference and posted in my journal here and now it is the most viewed and favourited piece in my gallery.. Some people had jokingly suggested that i make it into a t-shirt, but of course it would be hard to use it as a reference tool if it was on a tshirt (I even considered it printing it upside down so one could use it as resource while wearing it! hahah) Today out of the blue an idea popped into my head… Print it on a Mousepad! That way its there always on the desk and easily looked at when you need to know. So as RedBubble dont make Mousepads, i decided to make a quick one at Zazzle! I’ve made this just for fun – but i think it has lots of potential – and make make another one.. with all fancy graphics and fonts, when i have some time, maybe.. So for those of you’s that would like one on your desk.. click on the image below to take you to my Zazzle shop and for those who like me who not so financial.. ive included a large capture of the mousepad.. that you can print out and pretend you have the mousepad..hehehehe just click/save as HERE Happy Holidays everyone!

Everyone has the capacity to produce amazing images and it all starts with drawing. / Sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, painting, will all be better if you can draw well. / Drawing is the precipitous for good preparation and is the map that will formulate your creativity; it will guide you in a direction that is congruent with your abilities and will open you up to new ways of seeing. / Piet Mondrian used drawing to script out how he would approach a painting, where as Leonardo DaVinci created drawings for his own reference to have a clear understanding of the functionality of objects. / I use drawing to document my process. When I was learning to draw and paint I would look at unfinished paintings like: DaVinci’s “Adoration of the Magi”; it helped me understand the process of moving from drawing to painting. / Drawing creates spontaneous transitions from concept to canvas. / Art History has traditionally sited drawing as a form of documentation and communication. Today drawing is a primary means for creative expression, which is relatively new considering that Neolithic man, used drawing to communicate. / / Drawing is Expression / / If you want to learn to express your self through drawing then; / “Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain” is a great first step. / / Drawing is only a tool for collecting visual information; not unlike a camera. The difference is the long-term benefits you will gain from the process. / Here are a few of the benefits: Understanding design elements, form and space relationships, balance, technique, developed skill-level , a new way of seeing your surroundings, understanding how things work, a connection to your subject, the materials and tools of the trade; the list is endless. The thing is; you will always be learning something new as long as you live and draw. / / “It is only by drawing often, drawing everything, drawing incessantly, that one fine day you discover to your surprise that you have rendered something in its true character.” ~ Camille Pissarro. / / Picasso understood the benefits of drawing from his earliest recollections. / He knew it was the foundation for everything he had created or would create in his life. / / “To draw does not simply mean to reproduce contours; the drawing does not simply consist in the idea: the drawing is the expression, the interior form, the plan, the model.” Ingres / / Michele Angelo cartooned the whole ceiling of the Sistine Chapel before his apprentices blocked-in the images. He would also draw lines on the marble before he would begin a sculpture. / I think it’s safe to say that drawing has been used in one form or another to create most of the products we see and use today. / Drawing is taken for granted and is thought of as that thing artists do. / Well! What I would suggest is that most people have used drawing in their life in some form. With a little effort you could use drawing as an exceptional means of expressing your self. / So after all is said; drawing is not just something that artist’s do but it’s what you can do to be an artist.
