  • Taken from the Snake River overlook in Grand Teton National Park, Wy. The tallest peak, The Grand Teton, was stuck in the clouds for most of the day. • The Grand Teton is truly as remarkable as it seems in images, and every shift in the weather or season shows yet another side of it many facets. I had driven by the curve of bleached grass many times, and finally called to get permission to drive onto the private property to take this shot. Canon 40D, 22, 1/13, focal length 60mm. • A male yellow headed blackbird near Oxbow Bend, Grand Teton National Park, USA. Nesting amongst reeds in marshes, the yellow headed blackbird feeds on insects and seeds. Migratory in nature, yellow headed blackbirds breed through the central United States into northern Canada. Winter grounds extend from the southwestern United States well into central Mexico. Common among songbirds, the male is the one blessed with spectacular plumage while females sport drab black and brown feathering. While the yellow headed blackbird is a flagrantly beautiful bird, it’s normal call is entirely non-melodic, raucous and harsh. Moulton barn on Mormon Row was one of them. I stopped by the barn a couple of times, took some shots and my many visits finally paid off when I saw a buffalo herd grazing peacefully very close to the barn. I waited a little bit for them to come close enough so I could include one of them in this shot. / This beautiful, old homestead brings memories of the past but a wild buffalo roaming free makes it even more special. Taken in Grand Tetons National Park, Wyoming, USA Canon XSi w/18-55mm lens, f/6.3, 1/250 sec, ISO-200, 36mm.

  • Published in DIGITAL PHOTO magazine. There exists a whole row of abandoned buildings along Mormon Row, a phtotgraphic delight, if you don’t mind sharing it with a whole bunch of other photographers ! Deservedly popular , backed up as it is by the amazing Teton mountain range. The town of Jackson is nearby. / The Mormon people were evicted when the National Park was created. I decided to give this the HDR and Orton treatment, to bring out the texture of the wood, and add a little drama to the scene. Shot on my Canon EOS 40D,mounted on tripod, polarising filter, iso 100, f22, 1/30 sec, cloudy WB, RAW file, processed in Photomatix, with further adjustments in PS CS3, and a little Orton applied. Finished with LAB colour to oomph it up a bit ! Short visit is not enough to explore all there is to see and photograph but it gave me a taste and it will be hard to ignore the longing to see more in the future. Canon XSi, lens 18-55mm, f/6.3, 1/50 sec, ISO-200, 32mm.

  • What a treat to be shooting these famous peaks and NOT be standing in snow that’s hip deep! This is one of the less photographed vistas of this famous trio. Grand Teton National Park, Canon 40D, tripod, 24-105mm lens. • Autumn comes to the Grand Tetons. My son, Sean, and I were traveling north on 9-27-2007 and arrived here at just the right moment. There were a ton of photographers here, as usual. I took a ton of pictures and got this shot after a tripod guy got out of the way. Taken hand-held with my Canon EOS-1D Mark III camera and Canon EF—24-105 L IS lens.

  • The Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Teton National Park, Jackson, Wyoming, USA. I got up early for this one, I had travelled thousands of miles to see it, had only one morning to get my shot in the bag – and what did I find ? / A film crew shooting an advert ! Along with a battalion of other photographers, I was champing at the ‘bit’, since we weren’t allowed to shoot in case we captured the models – male and female – the whole darned thing was so artificial !! So, when there was a lull in shooting, I crept under a bush and hastily ‘snapped’ my shot. Maybe I should pursue a career in the ‘Paparazzi ??!!! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D with polarising filter attached, mounted very hastily on my tripod, Canon efs 18-55mm lens set at 45mm, underexposed by half a stop, f 27, 1/20 sec, auto wb, iso 100, RAW file developed as much as possible in Adobe Camera Raw, then in PS CS3, selective Levels/Curves, saturation of colours achieved with LAB colour, then the tiniest amount of Orton applied, to ‘pop’ the textures of the wood and grass. • Schwabacher’s Landing is one of America’s most spectacular viewpoints, a location that truly showcases the immense beauty of Grand Teton National Park. Just south of Yellowstone National Park the north-south Teton Range stretches about 40 miles across Wyoming. Bison and elk often are seen grazing in the sparse fields along the base of the mountain range. Toward the northeastern side of the mountains is Jackson Lake. With more than 10 miles of shoreline, the lake offers beautiful crystal-clear reflections in the early morning.

  • This is the smoke from the Bear Paw fire in Grand Teton National Park. It is currently burning in a remote area of the park, but the Bear Paw Lake campground was closed last week. The trail was open at the time and I did hike to the lake one morning. The fire has since spread., but I’m not sure how large it is now. It did consume 100 acres as of last Thursday. Image taken at Oxbow Bend. Five image HDR exposure processed in Photomatix Nikon D300, Tokina 12-24mm f/4 PRO ATX lens

  • Mt. Moran reflects in the Snake River at Oxbow Bend, Grand Teton National Park. Five image picture HDR processed in Photomatix Nikon D300, Nikkor 24-85 f2.8-4.0 lens
