This painting was actually inspired by Kate Lightfoot’s Early Bird – I thought the bird was tied to the twig, so I thought I’d do my own version of the scene. For me, this illustrates a possessive relationship between two people. Old Rowing Boat on the banks of Loch Ard in the Trossachs of Scotland. On a family trip up to Northumberland, here in England, we spent much of the holiday exploring the coast line and looking for nice places to enjoy the seaside and beaches. On one of our stops at a beach near where we were staying, there was some docks with only a few row boats tied up. They look so lonely there. Of all the boats there I liked this one. It has so much character to it. I love every bit of it, from the ropes to the reflection, the ores to the fishing net. I have applied the Orton effect to give it a reminiscent of my childhood memories of going out in row boats and fishing. • HP PhotoSmart C850 bridge camera / • f/5.1 / • 1/500 / • ISO 100 / Orton Effect applied in Photoshop CS2 /
