  • We feel very strongly about animal rights and hope that someday our artistic efforts may help change some minds. Animal testing is a barbaric practice that is not only cruel, but also unnecessary and inconclusive. Some examples of testing alternatives used in the U.S. are: / / • National Cancer Institute adopted in vitro initial screen for anti-cancer compounds – immediately replacing more than a million mice per year. / / • Episkin – a reconstructed human in vitro epidermis for evaluation of corrosivity of cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical compounds. / / • Corrositex – a two-chambered system with collagen membrane. Color (pH) change when test chemical penetrates to indicator chamber (widely used in the U.S. and Europe for corrosivity testing). / / • Computerized chemical structure-activity relationship (SAR) and knowledge-based expert systems allow prediction of efficacy and safety/toxicity of new compounds. / / • Epiocular- a reproducible, multi-layered human cell-derived tissue for testing ocular irritancy of chemicals and other materials. / / • EpiAirway- is a three-dimensional culture of human tracheal-bronchial epithelial cells for pre-clinical studies of inhalation drugs. / / • Epiderm- is a reproducible, three-dimensional, human cell-derived skin tissue for studies of corrosives and irritants. / / • Ames test uses specific strains of common bacteria to detect genetic changes caused by test substances – mutagenesis and carcinogenesis possibilities. / / • Toxicogenomics utilizes DNA chips to identify pattern of gene changes characteristic of specific toxicity endpoints. Will ultimately replace nearly all current animal-based tests. / / Examples taken from the AAVS website. by Mark Wilson

Sea urchins are small, spiny sea creatures of the class Echinoidea found in oceans all over the world. The name urchin is an Old English name for the round spiny hedgehogs sea urchins resemble. Their shell, which is also called the “test”, is globular in shape and covered with spines. The size of an adult test is typically from 3 to 10 cm. These urchin ‘tests’ were being sold alongside some large clam shells.

Now that the method for creating private bubble sites is an open secret I guess many people are having a play. I’ve been playing with it for getting on for a month now and the recent changes are really looking good — it’s really come on since the first version I got to play with. Here’s mine. Show me yours. PS: At any given moment mine could look horrible, I’m still messing, still trying to break it. ;-)

  • Musical Chairs
    by Jo O'Brien

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Recently we did a test shoot for two really funny and crazy guys who also happen to make music together, Jase and Tom after their manager aeris saw my stuff on RedBubble and decided I am shit hot at what I do. (I’m working on the modesty bit, I swear.) Anyway they really really didn’t want to do a photo shoot in a smelly, public, and damp mens’ toilet so naturally I nagged at them until they relented. Then the first thing their manager said upon viewing this image was “That one’s for RedBubble!” So here it is.

  • Student Life
    by Ine Spee

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Just a quick in between thing again. This basically shows what I’m going through right now. Except I’m not a guy. And I actually study on my bed, on the couch, in the living room… =P But yes, this is the student life, at least during exam period. Pencil drawing. Background and textures added in Photoshop, as well as the slight shading. Colours appear a bit different here (less red) than they did in Photoshop, but oh well. =)
