  • Dawn shot at the Tesselated Pavement ~ Eaglehawk Neck ~ Tasmania ~ Aus.. / It’s a tradition, I think for any photographers to capture this interesting place whilst in the area. Happy to put my spin on this much photographed scene. Beginning of a stormy day this one….cheers for any comments…Rob.

  • Tessellated Pavement ~ Eaglehawk Neck ~ Tasmania ~ Aus… / Ok, I’ve cranked up the 81A photofilter to 100% on this one…but I rather like the full blown golden tones…Very different from the so so blue dawn light on the original…thanks for looking and comments most welcome…cheers, Rob.

  • Tessellated Rock Formations along the Tasman Peninsula. / Similar I guess to a previous upload which I’m about to remove as I much prefer this landscape version….thanks for any views and comments…cheers, Rob.

  • The incoming tides spilling over a stone step and shelf and into the Tesselated payement along the coast of the Tasman PEnisula.

  • A bit of color and light over the odd rock formations known as the tesselated pavement along the Tasman PEninsula. The Tessellated Pavement is an inter-tidal rock platform – a common enough coastal landform. But here an unusual set of geological circumstances have resulted in a rare landform. The flat-lying siltstone was cracked by stresses in the Earth’s crust, roughly between 160 million years ago and 60 million years ago. The resulting cracks (joints) are seen as three main sets, one aligned to the north- northeast, a second to the east-northeast and the third to the north-northwest. This jointing, exaggerated by processes of erosion, has created the ‘tiled’ appearance. When seawater covers the rock platform, fragments of rock are carried away. Near the seaward edge of the platform, sand is the main cause of the erosion. When combined with wave action the erosional process causes ‘loaf’ or ‘pan’ formations.

  • Acrylic on Canvas. / Here it is, the second instalment in my new experimental series of Faux-zaics. / This is probably the most complex painting I have ever attempted. / If you are interested to learn how I made it, read this

This guy is a genius. / He has given me so many ideas about how I can develop this series further. Stay tuned to see what he does with Tesselation 2! / And here is the original, pre-makeover…

  • Tessellated Pavement, Tasmainia

  • The design is supposed to represent how many of us are trapped yet there is the chance for us to break free like the top left eagle yet there are those among us who just sink deeper like the whales. This is in fact my GCSE final piece which I got full marks on. For the actual work I had to waffle on about loads of things but basically it’s just me playing around with tessellating shapes similar to work done by M.C.Escher. When making it I first drew out the shapes of the eagles and whales onto the canvas with pencil. I then coated the whales with wax to make them more resistant to the watercolour. I then used a permanent fine-liner to draw around the edges of the animals and also drew the detail on. Then I used watercolour to colour it and the wax-resist on the whales gave the colour an interesting texture there. • So slept in the back of the car to save on driving down here and rushing to make sunrise. Can’t beat getting up at 4.20am (out of shock) and walking down to this spot in the dark…really! loved it, it was really hot that day so it was pleasent with a nice warm breeze blowing. If you look at the top left just above the island you can see a newish moon about to go down and the sun is trying to make it’s way up, better to view it large. It’s about a 30 second exposure.

  • Kelp adds color to the gridlike rock formation known as tesselated pavement on the Tasman PEninsula

  • what are your thoughts when the winter it dawns / so you’ve been there before / you think like the snow with warmth you respond / by melting yourself away / pick up my life and Im learning your always right / that the ocean would someday calm / the tide moves in time to where i grow strong / and hurt drifts away so rest calm under this sky that’s breathing / tell the waves of your plans to save the world / float softly on these clouds that bring you / you’re now falling deep inside loves ocean rain falls upon your eyes it’s leaking into your mind / and washed dark away / now falling is alright and tell me everything is ok / where rivers and bones run dry / hours flake aways and I’m staring straight at you / you are always my days / im dreaming for so long as you wait there always / you live inside my mind so rest calm under this sky that’s breathing / tell the waves of your plans to save the world / float softly on these clouds that bring you / you’re now falling deep inside loves ocean -me

  • I’ve finally got around to painting in a background to this image, and digitally remastering the figure as well… / The version of Tessellation 1 that I originally posted here had a background created in Photoshop, while the painting itself was blank apart from the female figure. Not any more! / I’ve submitted this for an upcoming exhibition – details of that to follow. / This is all hand painted and features a lot of metallics golds and coppers….It is extremely detailed – right down to the tiniest patterns in the centre….It took ages….Hope you enjoy… / Compare with the original posting below /
