The thunderstorm in this photograph was taken on the top-end wetlands late in the build up season…only weeks before this area was a dustbowl, yet weeks later it becomes a floodplain ! As the storm surged across the lush plains it dumped heavy rain and some shortlived reprieving cool winds. / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking on the preview image below. / / / /

the most mysterious and beautiful of landscapes…the human body. inspired by this passage from the novel, “The English Patient” by Michael Ondaatje: / “I’m afraid I waste the light on the paintings, not writing these words. We die. We die rich with lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we’ve entered and swum up like rivers. Fears we’ve hidden in – like this wretched cave. I want all this marked on my body. Where the real countries are. Not boundaries drawn on maps with the names of powerful men. I know you’ll come carry me out to the Palace of Winds. That’s what I’ve wanted: to walk in such a place with you. With friends, on an earth without maps…”
Taken in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Every other tree on this stretch of coastline was a green palm, this was only the exception and I couldn’t resist it. See my video on YouTube
Magnetic Termite Mounds, as they’re called due to their Nth/Sth. orientation to make the most of the days sunlight…Taken recently in Litchfield National Park, Northern Territory ~ Aus….Amazing to see the top end in the midst of their wet season. Oh so green and fresh…Darwin and the top end had recieved a crazy amount of rain in the weeks previous to our short stopover and the waterfalls were running wild…Another storm incomming in this shot…I think it’s just a standard daily occurance at this time of year…thanks for looking and comments always welcome…cheers, Rob.

Constant down pours for more than a week have produced some amazing sights around Uluru. Usually bone dry sand and dust is transformed into a tropical garden if only for a short time. The Finke river one of the worlds oldest river systems flowed once again this summer. A cloudy sky and the perfect amount of light to record both the shadows and highlights in the range made this a great day for photography. FEATURED in Unlimited Quality on June 19/09! Many thanks to the hard working kind hosts of this group! Also, I can’t thank the group hosts of The Birds for also so kindly featuring this photo on June 19/09! I call this mature male Rufous Humming Bird the King over his territory, as he keeps busy warding off all other birds who dare to intrude on his territory to feed from the feeder in which he has claimed ownership over. He doesn’t believe in sharing! lol / Rufous Hummingbirds like all Humming Birds can fly amazingly fast, often darting with pinpoint maneuverability. They are pugnacious and tirelessly chase away other hummingbirds, even in placess they’re only visiting on migration. Like other hummers, they eat insects as well as nectar, taking them from spider webs or catching them in midair. / Measurements Both Sexes / Length / 7–9 cm (2.8–3.5 in ) Wingspan / 11 cm (4.3 in) / Weight / (2–5 g) 0.1–0.2 oz Relative Size / About the same size as a Ruby-throated Hummingbird When viewed in the larger size, this bird shows larger than in real life! “PHOTO INFORMATION” Taken on June 17/09 at 2:19pm / Shot in raw, aperture priority and adobe RGB col space Downloaded into Lightroom and adjusted histogram.
