Originally a watercolor painted in 2003 as a wedding gift for a friend who loves turtles (GO Terrapins!!!), this image suggested itself to me as appropriate for a friendship card. It probably has too much jpeg artifaction to produce a good quality print in anything much larger, but it would probably come out ok in a matted or a small mounted or laminated print. Anything larger and it might pick up some pixilation. I photographed the original painting before mailing it to my newlywed friend, and it has been processed in photoshop for posting on RB, to correct any color or contrast problems stemming from any lighting or focus problems created by the photography. / / Here is the reference photo, found on the internet, that I used to model my wedding gift turtle painting on. When my friend who loves turtles was getting married, I could not resist this image for a pair of newlyweds. / The design is also adpted for a T. /

Red-eared terrapins, turtles or sliders are found throughout the United States east of the continental divide in the Rocky Mountains. The subspecies Trachemys scripta elegans, the yellow-bellied terrapin, turtle or slider, is the one most often sold in pet stores in the UK. These fresh water turtles spend much of their time in the warm waters of their native habitat. They are strong underwater swimmers but they spend the warmer hours of the day basking in the sun on logs or rocks.

Rescued this little guy from the 4 lane highway on my way to Dahlonega. Quick and feisty and totally not afraid of me or my camera, I had the opportunity to take several shots of him before I released him into the forest above my house.

Young snapping turtle crossing the rural road to the house. You can see the yellow line behind him. It’s a challenge to rescue a snapper cuz well…. you know…. they SNAP~ Ouch~ Lucky for him there were not any cars around (except for us) and we managed to get him to the other side in the grass…..

A yellow-bellied slider, or terrapin. Photographed at the Sealife Centre in Weymouth. They’ve got loads of them! I used to have pet Red-eared terrapins but they got really big and nasty so we donated them to Newquay Zoo.
