Sandpipers feeding on an early morning beach with a single human fisherman in the distant horizon.
This is photo of a Crested Tern coming in for a landing on our crash rail in bad weather in the Indian Ocean, about 150 to 200 nautical miles from our delivery location. It’s quite rare for sea birds to land on ships, and it is an indication that there is severe weather on the way. / At the time we were towing the rig ‘Songa Mecur’ from Singapore to Dampier, Western Australia.
Picture taken in the Dominican Republic on Isla Saona. On our Annual holiday. On the way back from Isla Saona, the boat slowed as we went between the groynes of a derelict pier, fed the fish, and watched the birds, as I took a picture and got the horizon out of level by miles. There is only so much rum one can drink and then horizons poo

Gull-Billed Tern – Altamonte Springs, Florida Nikon D90 / “The Gull-billed Tern, Gelochelidon nilotica, formerly Sterna nilotica (Bridge et al., 2005), is a seabird of the tern family Sternidae. / It breeds in warmer parts of the world in southern Europe (and a very small isolated population in northern Germany and Denmark), temperate and eastern Asia, both coasts of North America, eastern South America and Australia. This bird has a number of geographical races, differing mainly in size and minor plumage details. / All forms show a post-breeding dispersal, but the northern breeders are most migratory, wintering south to Africa, the Caribbean and northern South America, southern Asia and New Zealand.”
