New note 13 October 2009: Got back a few minutes ago from a prize giving for a local photography competition for photos representing “life is always a pleasure in Buffalo City” as I was one of the 13 finalists out of nearly 200 entries – and they chose me as the overall winner! This is an overlay of two photos, one of a viceroy butterfly and one of a dragonfly which I took at Lake Martin in St. Martin, Parish, Louisiana. I added the text by Mother Teresa of Calcutta which I think helps deliver a message with the image, the message of the importance of smiles which engender love.

A Western Lowland Gorilla residing at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. The Western Lowland Gorilla is a subspecies of the Western Gorilla that lives in montane, primary, and secondary forests and lowland swamps in Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Adult male Gorillas are prone to cardiomyopathy, a degenerative heart disease. Babec, a Western Lowland Gorilla on exhibit at the Birmingham Zoo in Birmingham, Alabama (USA) was the first gorilla to receive an artificial pacemaker. Binti Jua, who resides at Brookfield Zoo in Illinois, saved a three year old boy who fell into her enclosure in 2003. / The Western Lowland Gorilla is critically endangered. This big guy resides at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. Was nearly feeding time when we got to the bears, and he was wandering around looking for his dinner! An Arctic Fox that resides at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. He is a lovely gray blue during the summer and then turns this beautiful white for the winter. This is one of several selections of Blue Corydalis now available. Plants form a clump of elegant, lacy green leaves, bearing upright stems with dangling tubular flowers in the most amazing electric-blue shade.
