Tension

This was shot in an amazing house, it was caught in a time capsule….the property was recently sold and the furniture sold off too, this shoot is all that remains. I wanted to look back, not through the rose coloured glasses we usually gaze back with, but to look at the tension that lies just below the surface. The 50’s and early 60’s have this all to perfect image, surface image that is…

During a relatively peaceful 2002 protest against the World Bank in Washington, D.C., anti-war demonstrators began to change the situational climate of the march. Tensions between protesters and police, who were expecting a violent demonstration, began to rise. Police began to arrest everyone that they managed to surround inside Pershing Park, guilty, as well as innocent bystanders alike. In relative anticipation of the police’s reaction, this young man wrote the telephone numbers of civil defense lawyers on his arms before the demonstrations even began.

This shot is one of my favourites because it tells such a story. In the forground is a wallet being held by one of my colleagues Bart. He is buying the basket being held by the Rwandan woman in the middle of the shot. All eyes are on the transaction. This represents life and death in Africa as much as any other portrait. It is positive, but you can also feel the tension, the need, the hope. All proceeds to charity. I might even buy this myself. – Dog photography – Africa photography / - Beach photography - Black & white photography – Dog photography – Africa photography / - Beach photography - Monotone photography

A depiction of trying to keep overwhelming forces under control. Based on a statue I photographed in Zurich last week. I was there trying to organise paperwork, and realised we had been misled and things delayed by a month.

Masked Mardi Gras
by Kristy LeeI am watchful in my solitude. I stand where the black-tarred streets meet the cement walkway, somewhat detached from the chaos that dance…

Tensions between protesters and police, who were expecting a violent demonstration, started to rise. Police began to arrest everyone that they managed to surround inside Pershing Park, guilty, as well as innocent bystanders alike. These demonstrators were pulled from the crowd, handcuffed and thrown on an awaiting Metro bus. No one was read their rights as bystanders looked on in horror.

This was an abstract piece that I wanted to create that showed tension while also incorporating some natural elements found in nature. It’s a fun but sometimes difficult task to emulate the randomness of nature!

I was being driven around Buenos Aries late on Christmas Day when I snapped this minuture drama unfolding on the teeming streets of this beautiful city… / The dog and one of the boys are engaged in a real battle for psycological dominance and while the dogs owner is oblivious to the tense little scene behind her all other eyes…. mine, the shopkeepers and the other two boys are all locked into the unfolding senario being acted out on the pavement. I have no real idea what was going on or how it worked out but its a snippet of high drama that lends itself to many interpretations…. It could be the start of a short story if anyone out there is up for it….. PS….well the challenge I put out sometime ago for someone to make a short story from this image has been taken up and wonderfully aquitted by the immensely talented Lawford which is a great little story “the Buenos Aries boys” ...... follow the link and spend a moment or two reading his response to my image….. its a little ripper…....:)

Created with MBF Lite. / The title was inspired by JG Ballard’s novel, in which the residents of a luxury high-rise gradually descend into barbarism. And naturally, a reference to the congregations of high rise flats that blight most modern cities.

©Seth F.Weaver Sr.06/06/06 Acrylic on canvas panel 12×16” This is a sort of homage to John Wayne & Clint Eastwood those lone riders that took on the world all by themselves. This was painted shortly after Blizzard Moon (it inspired me). Hope you like it. Thanks for looking Seth.
