Designed by myself after travelling to Asia….lots of hidden detail in this image :)
There is a story to many of my images and this one is no exception. I was walking around Wat Suthet which is at the base of the ‘Golden Mount’ in Bangkok. I noticed a group of monks going into the temple and decided to see why. When I got to the door I saw many monks sitting inside. I was quite excited as this type of image I had wanted to get for a long time. Quietly, I set myself up to capture the image. My camera has a silent shutter and I squeezed the button and then, with a big grin on my face, turned to leave. Whilst I had noticed the scaffolding surrounding the temple, I had forgotten all about it as I was taking the image. The crossbar of the scaffolding just outside the door was at forehead height and, you guessed it, bang. As the blow was quite painful a, relatively, loud expletive escaped my lips. I gathered my composure, dared not look back and carefully slipped away. Featured in Art In Asia – 27th October, 2009
Originally cloistered, in what must have been a spectacular temple complex, this row of Buddhas has been restored and the faithful have draped them in bright orange cloaks. This is about half the row and is at Wat Yai Chai Mongkol in Ayuthaya. Sold as a mounted print – May, 2009. Thank you to the buyer. Beautiful, coloured dragons at the Chinese temple at Kao Takiab (Chopstick Mountain) close to where I live. I love dragons.
I’m not sure if I have this quite right but in Buddhism, the lighting of three candles or incense sticks signifies, purity, kindness and sincerity. Someone may correct me if I’m wrong but, as the old saying goes, ‘Once I thought I was wrong, but, I was mistaken’. Just kidding. Anyway, I really like the simplicity of this image.

Near where I live, there is a not often visited temple which has the most beautiful statuary. Set on a hill, overlooking the town, it is a steep climb to the top but well worth it. I’m told that the temple itself has beautiful murals. As, each time I have been there, it is locked up, I have not yet had the opportunity to explore inside. / This Buddha is quite large and rests next to a pool. Hopefully one day I will get to take an image with a beautiful reflection also. Have sold as a mounted print. Thanks whoever purchased !
History tells us..that a former king of Thailand set free a white Elephant to roam the lands and mountains around Chiang Mai. Where ever that Elephant stopped would be where the new temple would be built. It so happened to be on the top of Doi Suthep. The Elephant died soon after but is still remembered as part of the temple by a life size statue (not in this picture) The mist was due to the rain that day..soon after torrential rain hit the city of Chiang Mai bringing down its walls and derailing trains..I was lucky..I missed the train by an hour..August 2006. / Views to date: 1480 Sales – 1 x card Featured in Descriptions :)))) Featured in Circles of Latititude Group :)))
The view from the roof of my rented apartment on the outskirts of the city.
Within a temple in Chiang Mai, I have found this little place where the monks burnt encence and placed little golden buddhas, aligned. ~I was fascinated by how they got even the wax to match their robes. even a small arrangement is very carefully thought out….

Shot this in the grounds of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, Thailand. What a great place to shoot. Chosen to do HDR on three exposures as it gives the image a bit of a mystical feel. Many of the Buddhist statues elicit a kind of fear in the believer. In this case in the face of the “temple guard”. The dark ominous sky in the background seemed to accentuate this mood. Taken in Bangkok, Thailand at the Sri Mariamman Temple. This Hindu temple was built in 1860 and is dedicated to the Goddess Mariamman. There are actually other temples such as this one in Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. I have added it to my list of things to do, that is, visit the other temples in the world.

Taken at Wat Rakhang in Bangkok, Thailand. This temple is a little more obscure in terms of tourist attractions but what attracted me to it was the fact that it apparently had a nice collection of bells. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the temple itself was surrounded by these small chimes that rang with the waving of the wind. Even more pleasantly surprised was I when I realized that there was a class being held in the temple. What caught my eye was the traditional tattoo on the younger monks shoulder. Severed Bhuddas head encaptulated in a moretan bay fig tree located in the district of Arutthaya – Thailand. Many centuries ago, during the war and when Arutthaya was once the capital of Siam (or thailand as its known today) the waring party severed the heads of all the bhudda statues at this location Today the remains of the city are left in situ but the government is trying to return all the heads to the right ful statues. This bhudda head was lopped and left at the base of the tree. The tree grew and naturally encapulated the head as you see it today.
