Large View Recommended. Signal Hill, Newfoundland. On December 12, 1901, the first transatlantic wireless transmission was received here by Guglielmo Marconi in an abandoned Fever and Diphtheria hospital, which has since been destroyed by fire. The transmission originated from his Poldhu Wireless Station, Cornwall. The body of water on the right is Deadman’s Pond (cheerful, I know) and below it on the left is the infamous stinky St. John’s harbour which is accessed via the narrows.

The Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve marks the original site of the first European settlement in Alice Springs. Established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide, it is the best preserved of the 12 stations along the Overland Telegraph Line. Construction of this Telegraph Station began in 1871. The township of Alice Springs takes its name from the waterhole a short distance to the east of the Station buildings. This Telegraph Station operated for 60 years, and then served as a school for Aboriginal children. /

I have sat on this one for a long time, I personally love it, the late evening sky through the glass. It was taken at Holywell Bay, Cornwall. That song breezes in…..................... “Wichita Lineman” I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main road / Searchin’ in the sun for another overload / I hear you singin’ in the wire, I can hear you through the whine / And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line I know I need a small vacation but it don’t look like rain / And if it snows that stretch down south won’t ever stand the strain / And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time / And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time / And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line Glenn Campbell_ Thank you for looking.

  • Telegraph Road
    by Tristan Clements

    US$4.28–US$114.00

Just off the highway south of Lee Vining, on the way to South Tufa, Mono Lake. I really liked the way the warm tones of the wood contrasted with that deep blue sky. I had a rocking afternoon for high-contrast cloudscapes, and my polarizer had a ball as well… :o) May 2007.

  • Well… What can I say? My first attempt a b/w photo at night, and I had no one to model for me =( I was running back and forth between shots! I was sort of going for a 30’s/40’s/50’s modernist feel, and I’m thinking the long exposure sort of adds to the effect. More of an experiment, really.
