  • this was done with no editing or post processing. pink gelled flashes to the temple gate. blue gelled LED flashlight to the path. a homemade portable cold cathode behind the subject. I was experimenting with a new light source in this image. I have never used cathodes before. The light was intended for car interior decoration. I cut off the cigar lighter plug and attached my own 12v power source and a switch. I am very happy with the result and hop to make some new colors…..

  • this image is straight out of the camera with no post processing or editing. I used light painting to get this effect.

  • Aaaaah! Finally standing after hitting snooze a dozen times… only cold water to the face is going to wake you up enough to be able to safely walk down the stairs to the kitchen….that is right Mr.Stickman….it is time to rise and shine!! This was an experiment with light painting during the day. I always paint at night and I had been trying very hard to think of a way to do it during the day. Sure I could stack a bunch of ND filters but they are not cheap….This was taken around noon. It was fairly dark and rainy outside which helped a lot. Unfortunately there is some nasty ghosting of me in this image…..

  • I was just chillin’ at home when this burglar entered my house…good thing my house is completely empty. Straight out of the camera. taken with a canon 400D. the red lights in the back are LEDs and the blue ‘ribbon’ is done with a rewired cold cathode. A blue gelled flash fired at 1/2 lit the subject. The red bird logo is also done in camera. It is done with a stencil and a flash.

  • I found this freak inside some old abandoned house…. Actually, it is my good friend Phill who helps me with my pictures. Poor guy always gets stuck posing in them. We did this shoot in an old abandoned house located in Japan. Info: Shot with a Canon 400D. This picture is straight from the camera with no editing or post processing. The lighting was done with LEDs, cathodes, and gelled flashes. The ‘fiz-iks’ logo was done with a flash and a stencil.

  • Part of a project I did in Tokyo where we found complete strangers and got them involved in light painting. We met this guy in Harajuku. He was really proud of his American car which was a ‘78 Monte Carlo jacked on hydraulics. The color lights in the back were done by hand by his ‘crew’. Info: Shot with a Canon 400D through a 17-85mm lens. The lights in the back are LEDs and cathodes. The ‘fiz-iks’ logo is also light and is done with a soft box, a stencil, and a flash. This image is straight out of the camera with no editing or post processing.

  • Don’t you just hate it when thugs teleport themselves into your house….yeah, me too. After building a prototype in early summer I finally built and was able to experiment with the large version I had originally envisioned. Straight form the camera. Looks even better when its viewed larger. 3 blue flashes 1/4 fired to room manually. 1 purple gelled flash fired 1/8 to the back room manually. The room was pitch black. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 58 sec (58) / Aperture: f/10 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 100

  • I have warned Mr Akamatsu not to use his 1 wood in the backyard on several occasions which is why one can easily understand my frustrations when I caught this with my camera. I refuse to return anymore golf ball that I find in my living room…. Straight from the camera. Nothing is attached to the ball and this image is just one shot. The key to this is the 50mm lens. I simply tossed the ball myself up in front of the camera. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400) / Aperture: f/13 / Focal Length: 50 mm / ISO Speed: 800 / Exposure Bias: 0 EV / Flash: Flash did not fire

  • This was part of a collaboration project that spanned the Pacific from Japan to the US. An LA based designer, Darius Twin, provided the stencil graphics for this shot. My mate Phill modeled. The lighting was done with 1 green gelled SB-25 with gobo @ 1/2 from left of subject. The other lights are done by hand with LEDs and cold cathodes. We were experimenting with some new techniques and lights in this shoot. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 221 sec (221) / Aperture: f/7.1 / Focal Length: 44 mm / ISO Speed: 100 / Exposure Bias: 0 EV / Flash: Flash did not fire

  • Darius Twin has sent some of his trademark friends to Japan for a visit via a newly constructed portal built by Fiz-iks. We greeted and joined his monkey at the shrine for a blessing. This is the one in a series of collaboration shots. Darius Twin provided both stencil graphics for this shot. Visit his website to check out his amazing portfolio and his work. He has some wicked t-shirts for sale. This is straight from the camera. This has not been edited in any way. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 92 sec (92) / Aperture: f/6.3 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 100

  • ...and a temper….All I did was ask him to clean up his crayons…. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1600) / Aperture: f/2.8 / Focal Length: 50 mm / ISO Speed: 3200

  • This was done at an art gallery called Art Garden in Okayama, Japan. An installation that was technically never installed. Performance art that was witnessed by no one so was it even performed? One could argue that neither ever took place. Good thing I was able to capture the evidence of its non-existence with my camera…. I had an opportunity to use the gallery space for some photos. Given the setting I wanted to create something that looked like a physical installation. This “structure” was drawn by me and my cohort and recorded by my camera. It is completely made of light and nothing else. It was gone the instant it was created. This image is straight from the camera. No photoshop was used nor any post editing of any kind was done. It was created using the light painting method. Numerous hand held flashes were strategically fired around the room to illuminate the space. A picture of the space during the day is visible here Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 123 / Aperture: f/7.1 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 100 This has to be one of my favorites art projects I have ever done… I had an A4 size printed of this and it looks incredible.

  • When you can’t help yourself you may need ….. Taken at an abandoned house in Hiroshima, Japan. Don’t miss the accompanying video that can be viewed here The photo is straight from the camera. The tones were achieved by adjusting the ‘picture style’ settings in camera. The writing on the wall and the ‘draft’ in the top were done with LEDs using the light painting method. The model did an insane job of staying still for 39 seconds. The guy is a freakin’ statue…. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 39 / Aperture: f/20.0 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 100

  • Did you know that 1 ox can pull around 2 tons? Did you know that when working together 2 ox can pull 8 tons. Do the math…For me, this is the epitome of of the word ‘team’. Done at an art gallery in Okayama, Japan. None of the photography has been altered in any way but I must admit to removing a black scuff mark from the floor in the foreground with PS. All the lights were done by hand. For more info on how it was done feel free to bmail me. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 85 / Aperture: f/10.0 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 100

  • Done at Art Garden art gallery in Okayama, Japan. This image was created specifically for the gallery. It was our way of saying ‘thank you’ as they were kind enough to let us use the space at night. We look forward to doing some joint art projects with them in the future. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 161 / Aperture: f/7.1 / Focal Length: 20 mm / ISO Speed: 100

  • It’s good to breathe ….I heard that straight from the horse’s mouth…. Info: straight from the camera with absolutely no editing of any kind done. custom white balance to give it an orange look. 1 bare flash @ 1/4 camera far left. Looks twice as nice large Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 107 / Aperture: f/4.0 / Focal Length: 17 mm / ISO Speed: 500 / Exposure Bias: 0 EV

  • or arrival. At this point, I am somewhere in between here and there and staying and going. Didn’t I just get here? Straight from the camera with absolutely no editing. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 184 / Aperture: f/5.0 / Focal Length: 11 mm / ISO Speed: 200

  • Ever wonder just how hot hell’s kitchen really is? Me neither….but I bet it would resemble something like this… More fun with this technique. The logo on his shirt is light stencil popped at angle to match his pose. Converted from Canon’s sRAW with no editing. I was shooting for a stop motion film in the afternoon and had it set to ‘sRAW’ and forgot to reset the quality before I went shooting at night…oooops. Absolutely no editing done to this and it is straight from the camera. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 37 / Aperture: f/11.0 / Focal Length: 11 mm / ISO Speed: 100

  • This 250 minutes of night sky shot over Salt Spring Island in BC, Canada. Shot with a Canon 40D and a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens. Check out the video I have printed this at W4(25cmX37cm) and it looks fantastic.
