Photographic based digital montage, 2007 (no 2 from series of 3 re-worked). Shot two seperate models & P/S combined them. I also draw in & enhanced part of the headpeice, the body, the dress, added a fringe to the face, hid the eyes, made the features more angular, blew up the lips, created cheekbones, reworked the branches, filtered wallpaper effects, extended the chandelier, added lacework/flower elements, desaturated the lot & added a sepia tone. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers.
Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 15×20 / 2009 Related work: / The Waterman: Unio Mystica This is the second panel of The Waterman triptych. While the central panel represents the Christ as the macrocosm, the side panels are the microcosm, represented by the Four Elements and their manifestation in the physical world. Ignis Aeris is the yang pillar, the elements Fire and Air. Volatile and oriented upward, these elements are connected to the realms of the abstract thinking and intuition. Fire is the energy, passion and primeval instincts, that need to be balanced by the intellect (Air) in order to manifest in a most constructive way. The certainty of the Divine, that comes from the heart and from a primal knowledge, needs to be shaped by the intellect in order to become less aggressive and to expand (the butterflies rising from the fire and flying upward). Only through a perfect combination of faith and reason we can access the Divine and understand Its Laws. At the basis of the picture, handling the creative power of Fire, we see the Magician of the Tarot, which I represented wearing the skin of Nemean Lion, just like Greek hero Herakles. He represents the first step in the Hero’s Journey, or that path that each one of us need to find out and go through in order to become Whole with the Universe. The Magician is the one who uses his power of will (Fire) and mental skills (Air) in order to find his own path.

9×12 pastel on Sennellier la carte paper Since I did a Guinevere Empress, I had to of course do a Morgan Le Fay High Priestess! / Morgan Le Fay is a very popular figure today, and yet she is rather obscure in Literature. Originally written about as a great healer and shamaness. In later literature she became a rather wicked enchantress who of course had a hand in the destruction of Camelot. / She is the half-sister of King Arthur, and thought to be half faery. Although many are unsure if the Fay in her names actually means Faery or comes from the Latin Fata (which means fate). / She is also guessed to have evolved from the earlier Morrigan triple goddess. This is what gives her her “dark goddess” connection. Morgan Le Fay was the High Priestess of the mystical island of Avalon. Avalon represents the Underworld, or Otherworld. The dark goddess often rules over the Otherworld, for it represents our sub-conscious mind. It is the place we ignore, but is always there with us. It is like our shadow-self. When we journey beyond the veil into the darkness, we bring back great wisdom and evolve into greater spiritual beings more aware of our true nature. / This was the job of the high priestess in ancient times. She journeyed to the Otherworld and came back with the messages for the people from the Goddess. The High Priestess represents our Intuition and our ability to journey into the realm of the Otherworld to bring back “the Law”, or the wisdom of our shadow-self. / The apple is a stong symbol of Avalon. Often the pomegrante is pictured on High Priestess cards, and the apple holds the same symbolism here. It is the mystical fruit of the Otherworld that we seek in order to gain wisdom. / Morgan Le Fay also has a strong connection to water, as water also represents the feminine consciousness and the sub-conscious realm. 9×12 pastel on Sennelier la carte paper I am pretty excited about the new Tarot: Map of Consciousness group! This is my attempt at an Empress, my personal favorite card. The Empress is the embodiement of the divine feminine. She is the Earth personified, or as the Celtic traditions would say, the sovereign goddess. / As many Avalonian and Authurian themed tarot decks have done, I have chosen to represent the Empress with Guinevere. Although much of the later written stories of Guinevere have her depicted as a frail, pale, infertile, adultress wimp; originally she would have been recognised as the sovereign goddess. She is the land personified, and the hero she choses to give her favors to would reign as king. Lancelot and Aurthur also represent the Oak and the Holly kings, fighting for the favor of the goddess to have this honor, and to reign over their respective seasons. / The Empress represents change and balance. In the Qabbala the path of the Empress is the path between wisdom and understanding. It is the Divine Feminine that brings this balance to humanity. / There are twelve stars above Guinevere’s head like on many Empress cards. This represents her connection to the heavens and spirit. She is the bridge between the earth, or the material, and heaven. The May blossoms connect her to the Beltaine goddess and is a symbol of fertility. / Guinevere’s name does mean “pale one”, but this is a reference to the ancient “shining ones”, and means that Guinevere was a faerie queen. Having decided what shape his future will take, the Fool strides forward. But he is impatient to make his future a full-grown reality. This is when he comes upon the Empress. Hair gold as wheat, a crown of stars, a white gown dotted with pomegranates. She rests back on her throne surrounded by an abundance of grain and a lush garden. It is possible that she is pregnant. Kneeling, the Fool relates to her his story. And she, in turn, smiles a motherly smile and gently gives him this advice: “Like newly planted grain or a child in the womb, a new life, a new love, a new creation is fragile. It requires fertile soil, patience and nurturing, it needs love and attention. Only this will bring it to fruition.” Understanding at last that his future will take time to build and create, the Fool thanks the Empress and continues on his way. Pregnant. Well, not in the Rider-Waite deck she isn’t. But she is in early decks, and it is an apt symbol for this card. The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / To read more go to this site*
I’ve got something with eye’s and flowers, as you will notice when I upload more work. This one is, clearly, inspired by the Tarot card with the same name. It’s a 100% watercolour painting. I wanted to join up with a surrealism group here, but I’m not sure if this would fit in there. I always call it surrealism, but isn’t it more somewhere on the borderline between surrealism and fantasy art? With this I’ve introduced the 3 main areas of my artistic endeavors on to RB: still life photography, travel photography and watercolor paintings. I’m calling it a day. / Cheers detail at 100% / more work / the card /
Tarot Series Finally I’ve made a start on my Tarot Project / I would like to do the full deck but will be starting with / the Major Arcana (this will probably take me some years / to complete, but you have got to start somewhere) I am deciding whether to do an all female tarot, whether this would work for divination purposes. As we all have male and female energies, I’m hoping to tap into this concept. / On completion, I will decide whether to add colour to the deck, again an important feature in representing energies and elements. I also need to think of a name for the Deck. / (Any feedback on these 3 ideas is most welcomed) Each piece will be an artwork in its own right (with its art and tarot title). When the deck is complete, I will add borderings to make them into the cards. My Inspirations will be Beauty, Nature, Modern Subculture meets Ancient Culture, My Dreams and Visions, The Devine Feminine / Hope you enjoy xx The Empress represents Motherhood and fertility, represented by the roses on her skirt and the soft invite of her petticoats. The crescent moon of her belt buckle represents, the waxing and waning of the moon and its links to fertility (the cycle of life). The cats are the children in this piece, in need of love, care and attention, but ultimately their own spirits and independant beings. The Empress has physical and spirtitual security, you can tell by her confident gaze she is mature and knowing. Loving and generous, she wears her heart on her sleeve and has one foot firmly in earthy matters and her spirit flying with Angels I want to thank my good friend Paul for picking up on the Crescent Moon Belt Buckle, something I was unaware of, that emerged from the subconscious and makes so much sense in the piece. / Paul’s Gallery-Gottheshot / Thank YOU xx Pen and Ink on Cartridge Paper
As a reader Tarot has fascinated me for many years. I love the connection it creates between you and the querant – the privilege of being let into their life for even a brief time to explore things that really matter to them. And the process of giving them the gift of maybe seeing something that had been intractable to them in a whole new light. / I also love masque and candle light so Alison joined me to try and pull these different elements together.

‘The subconcious always strives to create an impossible situation to force the individual to give the best he or she has got. Otherwise you would be satisfied with less, you wouldn’t be complete, you wouldn’t realize yourself. You need an impossible situation, in which you have to hand over your own will and your own intellectual capacity and have no choise but trust in the impersonal force of growth and development.’ C.G. Original 125×100 cm. Canvas. Queen of Pentacles This is the practical, down-to-earth woman. An enthusiastic outdoors woman, she’s always encouraging friends and family to exercise. She also owns her own successful business. Her accounting is scrupulous, but that doesn’t mean she’s afraid to spend. She loves beautiful things and has an artist’s eye. Her home is impeccably decorated with paintings, furniture, and trinkets. Her garden is also beautifully maintained. Tasteful is the perfect word for her. Likewise in her dress, jewelry and make-up. As in work, nothing less that giving her all to her family will do for the Queen of Pentacles. She wants them to have the best so they can succeed. But this can put a lot of pressure on them. The queen does not understand that buying a child a Steinway piano will not make them Beethoven; also, this Queen’s pragmatism, her dislike of anything strange or distasteful, may exclude anything unique or imaginative – solutions as well as people. Her children or partner feel that they can’t be themselves and still be loved. / to read more go to this site Closeups /

This was not the actual “Lovers” card, however, it turned out so much better than the actual card design, I may just have to rework the actual card with this as a basis. I have to rework some cards anyway (I already redid “The Moon” and “The Emperor”, and returned to my roots a bit with “The Devil” and “The Hermit”). Keep an eye out…
Winner of Competition #4 in the Faerie World / Tarot Card Competition My entry for the Faerie World Tarot card contest. Thought it seemed like a bit of fun :) The meaning behind the Strength card: / The design of this card is fairly constant across tarot decks. The key characters are that of a woman and a lion, with the woman looking calm and gentle, yet dominant over the lion. It can be a reminder not to despair or give up. You have the inner strength to endure and triumph. If you are pushing too hard, you need to withdraw for the moment and be patient. If other people or circumstances are driving you crazy, remember the strength that comes with love and forbearance. These will see you through the hardest moments. This card represents the kind of strength that comes from a generous loving heart and unconditional love. You have the courage of your convictions and you will triumph over hatred and enemies. ..::Stock Photo Credit::.. / Background / Model / Lion / Heart

A few days ago I read artist Rosa Cobos´s Tarot:Mirror and SoulPathway. Needless to say, I left fascinated and felt the urgent need to recreate one of the Tarot cards; I chose “The Hanged” _ and still don´t know why. / Once I completed the image I sent it to Rosa, and this is what she sent back to me. The Hanged. / Text By Rosa Cobos / Supreme quietness… / submmission to the unavoidable. / I would love to sustain my strength in that light, / so temping and methodic. / It is supposed to drag me out of the pit, / illuminate my ciborg-like entrails, / but I am not listening to any shinning voices.. / repting voluptuously up to heaven. / I need to root… mind and heart.. / I need to let my thoughts… images and ego / rot… like the fallen leaves, / I need to close my phantom eyes… / that seem to see beyond the unseen. / But they do not. / Resisting to meet the real void, / the entralis assembly of twisted conducts. / I have walked a long journey to become still.. / bruising my kneess.. / until I got to the Supreme Cave of desillussion. / I need to darken my skin, / white marbled, resisting to rust, oxidize…. / the blood that is sucking from the acid vegetation. / No one will tresspass my threshold of meditation. / On one… / not even myself, / for I need to forget, / the name, / the rank, / the place.. / where .. / as a young soldier, / I had been fighting, / the eternal war. Having created a solid foundation on which to build his future, the Fool is struck with a sudden fear. What if everything he’s worked for is taken away? Is stolen, or lost, or destroyed or vanishes? Or what if it is just not good enough? In a panic, he heads into a holy place where he finds the Hierophant, a wise teacher and holy man. Acolytes kneel before the man, ready to hear and pass on his teachings. The Fool tells the Hierophant his fears, and asks how he can be free of them. “There are only two ways,” says the Hierophant sagely, “Either give up that which you fear to lose so it no longer holds any power over you, or consider what you will still have if your fear comes to pass. After all,” the Hierophant continues, “if you did lose all you’d built, you would still keep the experience and knowledge that you’ve gained up to this point, wouldn’t you?” This surprisingly pragmatic advise releases the Fool from his fear, and he is able exit out of the sanctuary and face the world’s challenges once again. Hierophant appears as a person, he’s likely an old, favored teacher, therapist, counsellor, advisor, sponsor. That young Priest with progressive ideas, or the old Rabbi who was always so down to Earth and fun, or maybe an uncle who always offered such common sense advise. Unfortunately, he can also represent that nasty teacher the Querent is dealing with, the one who refuses to deviate from the text book, or a sour-faced elder who wants to keep the church old fashioned and in the dark ages. Standing for the Querent himself, the Hierophant might well warn against being too stubborn, especially in matters of theology or ethics. It can remind the Querent what it means to be a good, and beloved teacher. In this, the Hierophant can be very positive. When things are going very wrong in the world, the Hierophant is the one who wades in, quiets the panic, and offers good, practical advise. He symbolizes a connection to the divine, which answers with a very human voice, never oblique or mysterious. You know how to solve your problem, this card says; it is not easy, not a quick fix, but it is do-able. The solution is there, you’ve only to bring it down to Earth. / —-—-—-—-—-—-——- / To read more go to this site
Featured in The Divine Feminine and Painted Ladies groups Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board – a little inspiration from my favorite artist, Erte! She is a sky goddess, guardian of the stars and night sky, she’s the one that makes the sun set and the moon rise. She also stands as Justice one of the Major Arcana cards in a tarot deck. The two most important laws governed by Justice are really two sides of the same coin. First comes the law of cause and effect, stating that all events are connected and each present state is the result of all past states. This is a such strange idea to get your mind around because sometimes seemlingly meaningless actions will have great ramifications. Justice shows that every action you do will eventually have an effect, someday, and you really have no idea of knowing what that event is until it happens. Often the figure on the Justice card is pictured sitting in front of a curtain; this curtain hides the machinations of the universe that bring about these final results. From the law of cause and order develops the law of Karma, showing that all your actions will return to you eventually. They will be modified slightly, and they are often strengthened over time, but the lesson is still the same. As you sow, so shall you reap. This is really a simple elaboration of the law of cause and effect. Under this new law, not only will everything you do have an effect, everything you do will have an effect on you. This is where it becomes critical to be mindful of your actions, because everything you take will come back to you eventually. Before Justice, you have to answer for all your actions, right and wrong. Life, if nothing else, is fair. She raises her curtain to start a sunset or to bring on the night, all the while, behind it, the universe stirs. She is cause and effect embodied, Every sunset she makes sets into motion the timing for the next day. She governs the laws of the universe.
