The third artwork in the Nautical Series. This digital landscape is a digital painting done in both Corel Painter and Photoshop CS2 with a Wacom Intuos3 tablet. No photo references were used. The blazing sun sets behind a dancing ocean. I was going for a minimalistic look here—the beach, the sunset, a single bird. What more could one ask for? Blog Website

Tian Tan Buddha at Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island off the Hong Kong Airport, is an imposing sight. This 85 feet bronze statue is the world’s tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha. In its presence, one is dwarfed not just in stature, but in true understanding and perception of life and universe. The Tian Tan Buddha appears serene and dignified. His right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction. His left hand rests on his lap in a gesture of giving (dhana). The Buddha faces north which is unique among the great Buddha statues. (All others face South.) I’m not a very religious person, but I need to know where my religious background stands in my family. This place was definitely the eye opener. How do they even carry all the 250 tonne bronze to make a 34 metre high statue up there?! A remarkable achievement. Bela,as a Rotweiller pup with her first chew. Rescued from the back of a van, she had been weened early and had been ‘caged’ in a van as the owner travelled the local area selling pet supplies. A very special dog as she timed her arrival with our tenth wedding anniversary and truly settling ın Turkey. I had had Rottweiler rescue dogs in the UK and had fallen in love with the breed – Roxy and Clyde are dear departed friends. She mated with Troy in January 2009 and produced a wonderful litter of pups: they were born on the anniversary of Clyde’s passing a year ealier. From the litter we intended to keep a boy and name him Clyde after the dog we rehomed with friends in the UK and possibly a girl (Mollie). Sadly, we fell in love and kept four …Mollie, Bonnie and Fluff. Bela is now neutered. The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. Trumpter swan recovery information – stunning progress! – / http://www.wyomingwetlandssociety.org/swan.restoration.htm / “Between 1994 and 2000, the WWS (Wy Wetland Society hosts the Trumpeter Swan Fun) and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department released 71 birds in the Green River drainage of Wyoming, which now account for 30 percent of the total number of swans in Wyoming, and nearly 40 percent of the adult swans outside Yellowstone National Park. In 2000 the organization began to work with The Confederated Salish Kootenai tribe of the Flathead Reservation in northwest Montana. The organization released 84 swans over a two-year period, producing the first nesting pair of swans in the Flathead in more than 100 years. Between, 2002-2005, the Society, FWS, and the State of Idaho released 27 swans on the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Idaho, where 3 pair now use the refuge, compared to just one pair prior to the release.”

This is from my new series – What heart are you? Each heart is based on an archetype and each is different. For each heart I start off with a sketch of an anatomically correct (more or less) heart and then develop a ‘personality’ for it. Are you hiding your true feelings behind a shell? Are you scared of being vulnerable? Tip: Check out the waters now and again. You might find them warm and pleasant. Check out my blog to download a copy of the heart sketch to create your very own heart and maybe win a prize. I’ve used serveral textures by Sirius-SDZ, my own fishie pattern and a photograph of some trees and reflections of same trees in the Cam at Granchester, Cambridgeshire, UK.
