I used slightly over the top hdr to try and get that old fashioned jigsaw puzzle look ( if you’re old enough to remember them ). This was taken at Goathland on the North York Moors, the NYMR runs steam engines most of the year.. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
A shot of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taken not far from Beck Hole.. it was pouring down that day and you don’t have to look too closely to see the rain. I used hdr to give an effect.. something I like to do with Steam Engine shots.. it seems to take the shot back to the steam era. Taken in the North York Moors National Park. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
I want to be a train driver when Igrow up, that’s what schoolboys used to say when I was at school.. / Steam engines still have their magic, this shot of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway reminds me a lot of the old wooden jigsaws of working steam engines that were about when I was a lad. Hdr has helped to get the effect. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
I find Knaresborough station unusual position wise, leaving the station in one direction the track goes straight into a tunnel/bridge. In the other direction it has to cross a large multi arched bridge crossing a gorge/valley. The station itself seems a bit timeless, it can’t have changed much for years. / HDR used for effect. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
During the summer high season, steam trains run from York to Scarborough. I took this shot a couple of years ago, once again with a compact camera which I tend to carry with me most of the time. I think the setting is right for this shot, the old steam train passing rows of old terraced houses. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
Another steam engine shot taken during a short break in Wales. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
Llanberis rack railway, this engine is No6 Padarn, chugging it’s way up Mt Snowdon, Wales. / The photo is worked to look more like a painting, I haven’t got the skill to paint like this.. also it helps to hide my lack of photography skills..lol. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
Did I say the views were stunning… this was taken about two thirds of the way up Mt Snowdon. Llanberis Lake can be seen at the bottom.. this is where the little train starts from.. / I added this photo to say, it’s worth a visit :-) MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
I took a snapshot of this some time ago, I was just going to Water Ark waterfall when I heared the steam engine coming. It was out with the camera and shoot, I ended up with two photo’s, one a touch too far away, the other too close. This one is the one too far away, square cropped to bring the engine closer. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET /
Believe it or not this was taken on the same day as the last shot, this time on the way back from the waterfall. During the Summer season the steam trains run regularly, lots of photo opportunities.. must remember to make an effort and actually go out and try to get steam engine photo’s this year. MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
This is one of the small slate mine steam engines that now take the public along the track that runs alongside Llanberis Lake, Wales. I believe the engines originally didn’t have covered area for the driver… people are getting soft these days :-) MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
A very quiet Station on the privately owned North Yorkshire Moors Railway… a good spot to see steam locomotives through out the Summer months. This photo belongs to MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
Before the Steam Engine can leave the station, a staff / token has to be passed from the station master to the engine driver. This staff / token is authority to allow the train to proceed on to the single line ahead. In this case it was done while the train was in motion. This station is part of the North yorkshire Moors Railway. / / MY STEAM AND RAIL SET
I love these sort of images, it brings the school boy out of me :-) It’s hdr and a bit grainy but I think that adds to the image. STEAM AND RAIL SET
Photo’s don’t always come out as you want them, in my case they often don’t come out how I want them. I tried a snapshot of this train as it went by, I ended up with a bit of speed blur which I quite like. I like the chaps face, looking down at me from the carriage window… it looks like his head is being shaken about by the train’s movement. STEAM AND RAIL SET
Once again, me going over the top with hdr, with subjects like this I think it really suits. This is Goathland Station in the North York Moors, and is a great tourist attraction. STEAM AND RAIL SET
Taken at Pickering Station, I couldn’t really work it to look as an old shot, not with the diesel in shot, but at least even that is old. / This is the start of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the main workshops are in Grosmont. STEAM AND RAIL SET
Nailed it.. really chuffed. After last weeks disappointment when the steam train didn’t turn up because of a minor derailment, this week I had a success. / Timing has to be right, a bit of luck needed… I was able to try rapid shots a bit more accurately after getting the timing from last weeks diesel shot. I think I got the position just right… now if only I could manage it with a lower ISO :-) / / The Scarborough Spa Express is a steam train special run for around six weeks in the kids school holidays… Different steam engines are used during the six weeks, and they run between York and Scarborough. STEAM AND RAIL SET
I took the last photo using continuous shooting.. this is the photo that was taken directly before it… you can see how much the train has moved in between shots. / I have another reason for this posting… some folks will know I was about to go on holiday in America next week.. due to unfortunate circumstances I have had to cancel it until a later date.. / I intend to keep posting photo’s, but it will be of local places, as I am needed close by…. Thanks for looking :-) STEAM AND RAIL SET
