A very talkative Seagull taken in New Zealand.
2D Forever I had a dream the other night of being underwater – typically in these dreams I’d wake up quickly realising I can’t breathe, but in this case I could – which was a bonus. Anyway, this stemmed from that dream. Is he drowning? Is he trying to say something? Up to you, but it was an image that stuck in my head after my dream. Kind of scary, kind of not. He could just be blowing bubbles. I promised to someone that I would go further into my technique used on my pictures. This particular piece is very simple, I just wanted to draw it quickly so it was typical brush work straight into Photoshop for me. Very similar to traditional painting techniques, I splashed in a base shape of a dark colour then painted in lighter shades to create the shapes. I put the bubbles and the background on separate layers so I could tweak those as much as necessary without ruining the focal figure. Hope that helped… in some way!

“Hey my brotha man! Wassup? I see you got hooked up with a pro-fession-allity camera so you’re at the right spot, believe me! What’s that, a Canon? A Nikon, huh? Damn, I’m soooooooo sorrrrrrrrrryyyyy! But see these ears? No ‘sale and slaughter’ suckers in this cell! And when I blow this cracker stand for the BIGTIME, you’ll wanna say you knew me when I was just a goat without a goatee! Hehehe! Know that Mr. Ed guy all those years ago? Fake to the fetlocks with that, ‘Wiiiiiiber!!!’ crud! Boy couldn’t speak a LICK of English! But listen to me, bro! Am I talkin’ or what? I mean, can you feel me??? Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about! When I get my agent on the horn, I’ll be ready to lock and load on my rap development deal with Mootown Records. Wanna hang wit the Big Dogs? Ha! OK, I see you gotta jet. Thanks for the chat and watch for me in the news. It won’t be with some silly voice-over mess straight from the horse’s mouth, see? (That freakin’ Mr Ed! I KNOW he be a halfass nitwit!!)” BTW, These goats were behind a blue sunshield so ALL of them had this bizarre blue colour cast I couldn’t get rid of without turning everything monochromatic. Bummer. Kindly featured in Funny Kritters. :-)

Any profits from the sale of this picture or tee shirt are dedicated to the the Australian wildlife relief fund, dating from the terrible fires in Victoria. The crow is perching on my large birdbath, peering in my window, demanding goodies from us, inside. / This guy spent the summer of 08 bothering the outside cats, chasing the squirrel around and around its own tree, trying to sneak up on the neighbor’s dogs when they slept, and generally caused riot and ruin in our quiet, country neighborhood. To the crow’s credit, it didn’t start this nonsense until its two children were fairly self-sufficient. / In September, just before the noisy crow rookery mob move south and our winter sets in, the mama of this pair made her two children take complete baths, one at a time, in our large birdbath, making sure each ducked its head all the way under, and that it rocked sideways on its belly in the water so its wing-pits were washed. Papa had to help with the second youngster, who did not want to duck its head. He had it fly down to him, talked with it quietly a minute, and then it went back and bathed properly. The next day the chidren, though still showing some baby-yellow at the corners of their beaks, left on the flight south with everybody else. Then it became too quiet, the squirrel collected nuts without being disturbed, and I missed the crows terribly. / CROWS ARE: / Country folk, devoted parents, mischief-makers, cat chasers, bread-snatchers, dogs’ eyelash pullers, and when you listen to them, you realize that crows actually sound like ducks. /
It looks to me like one duck is trying to talk and the other duck might be saying saying “Shut up and be quiet. I’ve heard enough. End of conversation.” Lake Norman, North Carolina. / Taken with Sony alpha 300 and Minolta AF 500 mirror reflex lens.
